Maybe you'll eventually write a trip report on either of those rarely-reported species (report as far as bioassay). That would be new information potentially.

those look an awfully lot like dorm room cabinets:ooo:  When i was at WWU i never had any luck near the school. Too many damn people pick in the area....let alone too many hippies in whatcom county :wink:  But if someone in the area would like to collaborate or something ...share some tips with one another count me in.

Love to visit my little pals. I have about six patches going down here in SW Seattle - a few seem to be getting trampled and found, but several are secret so far, and fruiting nicely.

What the hell are you folks doing with all these shrooms, though? Shit, I have no idea what I would do if I harvested hundreds - I leave a lot in the ground just to go through their life cycle (or for another picker, if you guys find them). I find it almost as much fun just to thrash through the woods and find new patches and know that they're there.

My favorite searching pose - I stick my cell phone in my ear and pretend I am jabbering away. People totally dismiss you if you're just distractedly wandering around slowly, or standing in one place, staring at the ground while you jabber nonsense into a phone.

We cyclists should organize a ride some time.

Think of it this way, we have to find a whole years supply of this magical harvest in the few months they show their faces. invest in a dehydrator and vacuum sealer if your findin hundreds of shrooms, its up to you if you wanna store em in the freezer after that, cyans at least stay potent all year if vacuum sealed and stored in a cool dry place.

always leave some to spread their spores though, its bad morals to take every one every time. if your serious about it you should make a new patch from spawn and renew an old patch with chips every year, then you can count on findin hundreds

I feel ya on the thrill of the hunt, i think thats why i hunt as much as i do, just to know their there, and then to pick em once i know their there.

Measuring a trip by level is funny.  IMO, you either take a journey of amazing self discovery (which happens in so many different ways...  Walking in the woods, playing around, listening to music, falling into a trance, etc) or you don't.

I say eat them all.  The more fresh they are the better (I hate dry shrooms).

I almost never weigh my shrooms.  With Cyans, I'll eat between 10 and 30 in a sitting and let them take over from there.  I count about 16 in your picture and I say 'go for broke!'.  Just tell someone you trust what you're doing so they make sure you don't go running in the streets naked with a sword or anything crazy like that. :grin:

You raise a valid point about measuring trips, only reason I asked is I don't want to go overboard, I took an 1/8 last year and let's just say I have the upmost respect for these things haha but I made the decision to split with a friend or munch them all, looks like I'm going with the latter :laugh:

I'm saving them for Halloween so I'm really excited, if you see a rather short Uncle Sam stumbling the streets speaking of holy prophecy, be sure to stop and say hi!

Took the day off work today and was planning on enjoying some of the samples I have found over the last week or so. Went out for a quick walk with the dog and to my surprise found these not 5 minutes from my house without even looking for them.



Looks like I will be enjoying fresh ones today :smile:

So far I have been having good luck around the edges of blackberry patches. Also I have found that every time I find wild strawberry patches around the blackberry bushes, Cyan's are not far away.

I live in the lower mainland not far from you.

Vancouver Island should be flush with them right now. Stop looking in the forest and start looking in your parks. Especially where blackberry bushes are pruned back every year.

Look close at all the pictures posted. Look close at the environment around the cyan's. They all have a fairly common theme.

Inspired by this thread, my girlfriend and I have been scouring the streets of Seattle for cyans. We just got back from a walk around the I-5/520 interchange area, and I don't think we had any luck. We found a lot of imitators, but I'm pretty sure none of these are cyans. We're both fairly new to collecting and identifying wild specimens, so any input is appreciated. None of the mushrooms we found bruised blue.

We found this patch of I-think-not-cyans under an evergreen tree down by the Ship Canal (near sea level.)



These next guys we found near our place, a bit higher in elevation. I have a spore print from one of these going right now, but again, I'm pretty sure they're not cyans.



Today we spent most of our time looking down near sea level. We found a lot of areas that I thought would be great habitats, with hardwood chips and some underbrush, but we just found impostors. What sort of difference does elevation make in this area? Any tips or input is appreciated.

Its also kind of working against you cause your in public seattle. Lots of people there, and lots of people there that know cyans grow around in wood chips at parks and what not :shrug:

My three cyan spots have all officially been destroyed.
In each spot I counted under 20 pins left growing :frown:

Hopefully when it rains hard in november I see some more growth from those locations, otherwise I'll have to make due with the 400 I've collected thus far :frown:

'freespeech' - this thread isn't for IDs - go ahead and make your own ID request thread. that said, i  do see two possible cyans among the mushrooms in the first picture, but it's not likely. i'd have to see a bigger photo. habitat looks good for cyans though. second set looks nothing like cyans. general rule - if the gills are white they aren't psilocybe
