Wait, so we can pick through summer? I was always under the impression it had to be during autumn! Shows how much I know

I’m not getting exceptional finds at the moment, odds and ends. But mainly just going out learning where they are and when they arrive.
Does anyone have information about their growth rates and life cycles though? I’m interested to know how long they take to ‘bloom’? And if they last a day or more naturally.

Can confirm that atleast Pan Cyans are popping rn in nnsw. This was the third time i've picked the same spot, on this occasion i only found 1 baby cube but 100s of cyans in the cow poos.
Now i have heaps of cyan prints in my collection!

The best way in my opinion is if you know what your looking for a pair of binoculars are great because P Cubensis (Gold Tops) can be seen from roadways. If you can see them in the paddocks go visit the farmer and ask if he or she minds you looking around for field mushrooms. Farmers in the north of NSW are pretty clued on and will know exactly what you are after. You’ll either get a yes or no answer but it’s better than trespassing. They may sell free range eggs so it might also be worth offering to buy a few dozen to kick off the conversation.
Mate that is a gorgeous photo! PotM worthy for sure. Are they Aussie cubes?

We’re you finding whilst it was still raining? I went out yesterday, first sun in almost 2 weeks and found NOTHING. Just when you think you have it sussed out you get skunked.

Psilocybe Cubensis Does Not Require Sunshine To Fruit. Good Rainfall, Correct Temperatures, & High Humidity Is What Is Required.
If You Waited 2 Weeks After A Good Rain For The First Sunny Day, You Missed Out. Check The First 5 Days After A Good Rain (1+Inches), Sun Or No Sun. Check Patches Of Tall Grass, Check Shaded Spots Under & Around Trees, Check Hay/Straw Piles, & Always Check Back Over Places You've Already Checked, Even Seasoned Hunters Can Pass Up Big Flushes & Never See Them

Hey beautiful people,
First time hunter here. Starting to scout for areas to look at. I live right behind a cow paddock west of Newcastle area. It seems like I might be starting a little late, considering the rain we have had in this area over the past couple of months.
The paddock behind me backs onto a small wetland/swamp reserve, which someone’s cows graze in. We have pretty unrestricted access to this field. Any tips for a first time scouter in this area? I’ve got a good collage of confirmed photos to use as reference, plus a couple of screenshots of tips I’ve collated. From what I’ve read it seems like my most likely target will be pan cyans or P. subs.
Cheers guys and best of luck to everyone!!

Welcome to the shroomery HeathXor. You might be in luck still if we have any humid days left but otherwise you will have to wait another 9 months until next summer. Subs might not be out for a month or two in our area. Wood chips and bracken ferns are where to hunt. I’ve yet to find any but I feel mt sugarloaf might be fruitful. Just need to right conditions.
Good luck out there mate.

Yeah cyans and cubes in cow poop over summer. Subs grow on wood and generally in winter. Whatever you do happen to find be sure to take lots of photos in-situ and create an ID thread for confirmation from a TI before consumation.

Will definitely be doing an ID check on any specimens I might encounter. I'm very green to the hunt so I would want confirmation before taking any actions.
Are there any species that would be actively growing with the current climate, or am I best to wait until the cooler months for P Subs?

And so the hunt continues.
I went looking last weekend. Didn’t find anything of interest, but it was my first time actively looking for fungi, and I was pretty interested with what we found anyway! Paying attention to the floor of the bush and wow, very fascinating to be looking so low to the ground.
I’m checking out that cow paddock this weekend after we have had some rain this week. I’ll be lucky if I find anything, but it’ll be good to get some experience in searching anyway.
