Found another 60 odd today out east of Hobart.
Most of them are pretty yellow so I'm thinking they are fruiting on the moisture from the dew only. Also only really finding in sheltered spots.
Hoping for a good rain this week to get a few more of my spots going that haven't fruited at all yet.

Some nice wavy caps there. How long does the season usually run for in Tas?

The season usually runs from around April/May to August/September. But this can (and does) change from year to year. Also, at the start and end of each season, micro climates will play a part in fruiting subs even though other spots haven't started or have already ended for a particular season. Some years are better then others so the best thing to do is hunt from mid May to mid July as much as you can as that's when a season is usually at it's best (give or take a couple of weeks).
Subs

Some Inactives

Btw, I've noticed more and more subs popping up at my spots (North of State) .

Man I love hunting and finding new spots!!!
Stopped next top a highway at a likely looking spot and found 8 lovely subs, some right near the road and some just into the bracken. But it was a little dodgy so when I got home I looked on google maps and found a back road in. Went back yesterday through the back road and found 60 lovely subs!! This spot is pretty hard to get to so left a good 30 pins for next time!

Hello all. I hope we are well
Long time listener, first time caller so please let me know if this is allowed or not.
I am just wondering if anyone has any luck look for subs on the west coast? My eyes have been peeled to the ground since mid April on my near daily bush walks around Queenstown, Rosebery and Zeehan. I am nearly convinced that they just do not exist in this part of Tasmania. I have seen so many beautiful species of fungi but just no subs.

Hello and welcome Zeus Flambeau and TheYellowSubmarine
Zeus Flambeau
I've been out near where you live many years ago when I had a motorbike, and from what I remember of the areas you mention, there should definitely be magic mushrooms somewhere in that part of Tassie to be found.
Here's a pic with an area I suggest you focus on.
I'd start off looking at Conservation areas, Recreation areas, reserves, and national parks. But they literally could be growing down the road from you in a garden bed, so look everywhere you can .
Also, here's a link for a thread about Habitat shots from on this site https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16164170/fpart/1/vc/1
TheYellowSubmarine
It's preferred to not mention specific areas on this site please. I had a little look on the internet and based on a few pics i saw of that location it could have magic mushrooms but being close to Hobart I think you're gonna be competing with other hunters. If possible, jump in the car and head out to parks, reserves, walking tracks and anywhere else you can think of (Just keep in mind that the closer to Hobart, the great the chance others are/have looked in the same spot). The main things to do is to avoid going onto private property and to try and look the part. Having a camera (not a smart phone) also helps to blend in and not give the Mushroom seeker vibe.
As mentioned to Zeus Flambeau, check out this link for habitat shots where magic mushrooms were found in Australia. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16164170/fpart/1/vc/1
Good luck, and remember to ask questions if you've got any, but not specific locations please .
Lastly for those new to magic mushrooms.
Unfortunately, most people WILL have to go through a stage of being disheartened as they try to find the awesome sub for the first time. For some it can be a year or two, for other's it can be sadly be even more. It's unfortunate, but it's just a part of the process of becoming a good hunter. So, don't give up, keep trying to learn, and get out there cause there not gonna come to you. Some people get lucky only after a short time, but for everyone else it just takes time and persistence and the learning of the finer art of hunting. Magic mushrooms don't just randomly grow anywhere, there is a science to it. So, the more you can learn about them the greater your chance of success.
For anyone with questions, this site has for a long time been a great place for new members to ask question, even ones that seem silly, so don't worry just ask and hopefully someone will answer you. Also, if you ask a question in this Tassie thread and no one answers you, then make your own post in the Mushroom and hunting part of this site and you're more likely to be answered.
Don't give up, and YOU will get there, and then you can share in the awesomeness that is 'The Amazing MAGIC Mushroom' .

Hey guys, I've cast my eyes upon this forum for a year or so, but this season I went for my first solo hunt and this is my small yield. I was pretty confident when I picked these. I checked the signs multiple times. They are now dry and ready to go but I can't help but feel a bit anxious that I may have gone wrong. It's kind of holding me back from consuming! I know the picture is a bit rubbish but hopefully it looks good to your eyes too!
I did end up throwing away the two at the very bottom. I thought they weren't blueing from being water-logged but I still wasn't overly confident once they had dried a little.

Great post Blessed!!
I'd add to that, you'd be amazed at the spots I have found right beside country roads!! I stopped recently beside a highway the other day at an area that had a heap of slashed bracken, bracken, gum trees and pine trees. Found 4 growing close to the road so had a look on google maps when I got home and found a back access road to the area. Went back the that weekend via the back road and found 60!! I've stopped looking for pine trees as much and found bracken and gumtrees seem to produce more in my area. If it's a road with a bit of traffic I often take a garbage bag (and wear gloves) and pick up some rubbish as I go. I put an empty maccas bag in the garbage bag and put the mushies in that. Then not only do I look like I'm not hunting mushies, I'm doing a good deed too!!
