I am pretty sure they like hotter weather more than voids, so probably a better opportunity to find them is once the night temps warm up some. But you never will know if you don’t look for them. I know last year I was finding them in the heat of summer, but October had the biggest yields by far. I believe someone found them at the beginning of April last year, so anything is possible!!!

They usually fruit after ovoidiocystidiata when temperatures are much warmer.

Weilii usually start popping in late April from my experience. Let’s make it a good season guys. I’m going to make an attempt to find some ovoids this year.

For the Atlanta area, starting on Wednesday it looks like highs in the 60s/70s with lows in the 40s. Along with some scattered storms I'm thinking I might start walking flood plain areas and heavy woodchip areas for ovoids.
For those of you that have found ovoids in GA, are they predominantly in flooding areas with woody debris? I saw docs brief guide back in June and figured that's the case. I'm curious if I should stick to floodplain or woodchip areas (I supposed both combined is ideal). Thanks

I'd stick to flood plains with lot's of box elder trees. They love boxelder wood debris that collects from flooding. Sometimes parks in these areas will lay wood mulch along/alongside trails and they'll fruit from there. Your ovoid hunts in these environments can also double as morel hunts, as I've found them growing side by side a few times this past season.

well... I visited the place I hope to photograph Ovids yesterday and the whole area was under water so I guess it is a flood plain.
One question, this place has a large wooded section next to a creek which is full of box elder trees. There is also a pretty good sized section of grass land that also floods.
Where is one most likely to find these? In the shady woods or the sunny grass?
