hey guys. noob here. hunting for a subs. my second time picking went really well. i got like 10 cracker dry grams which is good for this early in the season. i was thinking of going back this coming weekend however forecast shows there's not going to be any rain and it's going to be really hot this week, nearly 10°C hotter than the weather leading up to this weekend just past. is it pointless?
I'll also not have access to a dehydrater for several days if I go. I picked up a few mushies to photograph and they seemed to dry on my desk really fast, can I air dry any I find?

Um I wouldnt say it would be pointless. I'm gna go out and look sometime this week.
The cold weather preceding may have provided a boost. Just enjoy the outing and go see

Shit dude that sucks
How would you go about making spore syringes from mouldy dry shrooms? Sounds like nothing can be done here unless I'm misunderstanding.
It is probs too late this year if you inoculate woodchips now, although I'm not 100% sure.
I feel ya though it's hard to dry them properly if you live w others.
I bought a dehydrator at the end of last season so that made things way easier for the last couple of runs. Otherwise, I normally stick them in a flour sifter, put them near a fan heater in winter (not too close, you don't wanna bake em lol), and toss them every hour or so. That does a really good job. Put them out for 5 hours and then leave them overnight. All the moisture inside the shrooms will draw to the surface, then give them another 4-5 hrs and you should be good to go when they're cracker dry!

First time hunting, YAY...
I have been looking in northern Koszci for a little under a month for some subs as its been really cold but no rain. Came accross these for the first time which I cant confirm are subs. There were some growing in horse dung which I have not heard before for these species so oponions would be much welcome.
There are tonnes of Laughing Gyms though but I cant imagine eating them as they are bitter as all hell and I am not sure if they are even active. Any experiences?

The mushroom on the right in this pic appears to be subaeruginosa.

A mate of mine tried a fair bit down in VIC, absolutely nothing. Haven't heard much about active gyms in Aus, only that they could potentially exist. Heard about plenty of active gyms from America though.

Today (27.4.21) found about 60 subs in the mountains west of Canberra. They were found along a firetrail in amongst bracken and grasses, particularly in shady damp areas. Hardly any rain since the last big drenching (that caused all the flooding), but there still seems to be plenty of moisture at ground level from morning dew and the temps have been down to zero or so overnight, so was fairly optimistic of finding something. If there's more rain in May they should pop out everywhere. Happy hunting!

Some nice finds guys. Looks like the start of a good season. Going up near Barringtons this weekend so I’m hoping to find something.

Evening all,
Went for a look today in a forest, found a handful of subs, over half of which were rotten. Guess this means I was a few days too late? There’s been plenty of rain around this week, forest floor was soaked.
Found some growing in grass around rotting logs and some growing directly out of a rotting log, was interesting to see. Going to try again when it’s a bit colder.

Hey man. I would totally keep all the ones in those pics. The darker ones aren't necessarily rotten just old. same/same when dried
