Hello, I am completely new to this and am hoping to get some experience foraging mushrooms when I go camping over the next few weeks.
I live in the Pacific Northwest and can drive to much of Washington or Oregon.
What is going to be in season in May up here and where should I plan on camping to begin looking? I am looking for places to learn

Mushrooms like moisture; I like to forage along small streams that are easy to cross back and forth. Once you start looking, you'll find them everywhere though. Maybe not so much east of the Cascades because it's desert, although it is beautiful out there.
I'd bet there are some good guide books specifically for edible mushrooms in the PNW; they should tell you what's around in the spring. Also check mushroomobserver.org to see what kinds of things people in the area are posting; there are often edibles posted there.
There are a lot of edibles that are relatively easy to identify, but you'll probably want to learn the language of mushrooms. Familiarize yourself with the parts of a mushroom. It's well worth finding random mushrooms and trying to get an identification on this website; I've learned an awful lot that way. You'll quickly learn what kinds of things you should be looking for for identifying.
Have fun camping - sounds like fun!

You can use http://mushroomobserver.org to check occurring species in your area.
Make sure to bring a camera and take good pictures of all your finds, post them here so we can help with identification.
And never consume anything you're not 100% sure of.
Safe journey, happy hunting and welcome to the Shroomery.

Except if mysterious black guy wearing trench coat and weird shades shows up, handling you a red pill, then you consume without questions asked.

It all depends what you might be looking for. Far SE WA & NE OR, like Blue Mtns. Area, would be good for morels, central WA’s not good for much unless you’re just foraying what’s there. It’s been a particularly lean season so far in the PNW compared to previous years. I’d say if you’re looking for interesting stuff in general, Olympic peninsula, Whatcom, and the Cascade foothills would be decent areas but I wouldn’t expect to find many choice edibles or any psychedelics.
I’d say camp wherever looks interesting and just post what you find. Learning about what’s around you is a good starting point.

Morels come up in burns this time of year. Make sure you're not wandering off NF or BLM land into logging land. Weyerhaeuser almost always presses charges.
If you camp anywhere in the cascades west be ready for rain. It rains until mid June most years, we don't call it juneuary for nothing.

Thanks. I will bring a camera and post pics. I decided not to worry so much about finding anything in particular this time around. I am interested in edibles and actives mostly but finding and identifying anything would be fun.
