Right on time

I don't know how you guys do it but I've had no luck yet

Been searching on the mountain (hobart), actually went up today to my spot that fruited last year but nothing happening. Around 250-400m elevation.

To be fair there was only stuff growing during the first week of May. Too bad the forecast for this week in Hobart is sunny and high temps.

By now i would imagine the mountain is pretty well picked over.  on my recent walks I have found holes everywhere where people have lazily removed mushrooms.

when I started 30 years ago, I started looking at the beginning of march, watch the season evolve, and then get the early harvest around mid march. times have changed and I imagine it is more like late march, early April now.

but if you get the rhythm right you find heaps.

Places like the [location removed ] definitely draw crowds, although the spot I visit was quiet and I was able to find plenty. Knowing the area as a local was a huge help as to identify good growing environments. 30 years ago the season would've started earlier for sure due to the climate being colder.

I'm a bit cluless on how people manage to find anything on the proper slopes of the mountain, seems to be such dense forest and the only success I've had is on grassy slopes before the tree line starts at around 300m or so on the Hobart facing side. I'd be interested on seeing some habitat pics from around the mountain where people have found them, particularly the thicker forest etc.

probably should not mention specific locations.  anyone experienced with picking around hobart knows, but still shouldn't advertise it.

Also used to be local to that area.  so many amazing out of the way spots!  but the damage some years was incredible.

Hello.

I hope everyone is having a good year so far, and that we all have a great season hunting this year too :mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:.  Good luck to everyone :borat:.
btw, for those newer to the site, I have noticed that people in the South of Tasmania generally find (based on the past season threads) actives before people in the north of the state.

I use the said location as a marker for when the season starts as its one of the coldest/wettest areas in the state, even at the end of summer. 17th March is the earliest I've ever found subs up there(closer to the top might i add, 700-750m elevation, facing Kingston) but I know of stories of people finding them near a local waste dump in the same area, end of February some years ago.

First little find of the season today! Left a good few pins to keep growing, but found the biggest sub I've ever seen, and a little handful of others. Here's to a good season! Glad the shroomery is back .

I found some amazing wavy bois today, so similar to cyanescens it’s crazy, still subs tho. Out of 200 actives today, only these three were wavy, very strange as next to them were perfectly umbonate banana yellow subs.

Can I ask if you guys are mostly in the North or South? I'm up North and haven't had any luck as of yet, although I'm quite new to picking. Seems quite dry and still getting some quite warm days?

Found these whilst walking my dogs on a popular Hobart walking track, in some kind of mulch- they look different to the usual ones I find about the place... Were people everywhere and had to do a bit of a rushed pick haha

Tried my spots a few times but nothing so far.  They are all east of Hobart and at sea level so hopefully this rain will kick things off.

North.  As for temps, they do still need to drop somewhat for the season to really kick off.

......

For the newer members, here's a thread about magic mushrooms (subs) by a good dedicated member of this site.

Subaeruginosa Guide

......

And finally....., the best time of the year is upon us :wooawesome:

I always look forward to winter, and for one very good reason :woooaaahhh:

Question for the seasoned hunters...

Last season was my first season hunting a lot and I found a fair few spots where I might find 2-3 subs in an area or a lonely sub under a tree!
Do patches expand season on season?  Or do they remain the same size?

My experience is that they tend to stay the same size.  but it is relative.  it is quite common to get them occurring in groups with another group nearby.  If you find them at the top of a valley follow the valley. the spores tend to move down the valley on air currents.

Found in the south (really quite a way south). I had been scouring the paddocks to no avail. Decided to collect some pinecones as kindling before the sun went down. I collected my pinecones and decided to sit on a log. Minding my own business, I spotted them: a million of these little nointers right by my side. My first ever find.

To my knowledge they are only in paddocks on the mainland, different species.

All my finds down here have been in decaying matter (pine trees, gum trees etc) or under bracken.
You'd be amazed how many I have found by the side of the road!!

Oh lord the things I'd do to find a spot as good as that...

After many checks from mid april my spot has finally shown something... just a few pins. kunanyi / Mt Wellington foothills 5/05/21. My other spot which has many fruiting was being raided

There are plenty of places to find actives in the thousands in TAS just have to research, google earth is your friend, easiest way to spot fallen trees/patches of bracken in gullies and reserves etc. I'd remove your location photo as well friend, I know exactly where that is and someone else who has been picking the south for a while would be able to pick it out as well.

A little trick I have found very handy using google maps is to click on the button at the bottom to show which streets have street view, or in other words are public roads that you can access!!

Good advice! But a lot of public roads in TAS, typically in remote areas that are gravel/dirt and public access still dont have streetview or only go a certain distance up the road, still a very useful tool though.</font>

Was dropping off something for someone on gumtree and found these beside there door in a bed of woodchips. I quickly snatched them up. I know taking pins is frowned upon, but I can't imagine these were ever going to be used. These were found in the North.

Go to Bunnings, get a bag of euci-mulch ($9 for 50l) and bury those stubs with the myc on it, water it and you might end up with your own patch!

Any chance they were grown by the owners on purpose dude? That's a pretty shittythingtodo imo regardless.

Nah I'm 99% sure. it was a very large garden bed with numerous species of mushrooms popping up. Have also spoken to the owners afterward and they didn't mention anything. I also left heaps of baby pins. I wouldn't have taken them if they were obviously being grown.

Lost my account from last year. Sad.
I'm glad the shroomery came back up online just in time! Great photos everyone.

My favourite spot got logged and completely cleared :feelssadman:

I've been out for a handful of forages recently. I think it has only recently started being cold and wet enough. I saw thousands of pins this morning - need to head back out next week - but still collected around 600g wet at around 800m asl in cleared pines. One of my other spots at around 400m had nothing last week. Definitely have enough now and don't need to go out any more... But love the hunt!

I am always interested in the Pine specimens because sometimes the gills are dark purple but other times tan to yellow. Maybe due to age/decay/amount of spores dropped? Also a lot oflookalike galerinas out as well, almost got fooled a few times until seeing the orange gills/stem and the ring under the gills.

After checking random spots first, I ventured back to my favourite area today - it didn't disappoint. It's incredible how much these mushrooms vary in shape, colour and size.

The white, dry and conical in shape ones are my favourite. I usually find them by the side of the road amongst eucalyptus leaves and sticks

Good morning to the Tassie Crew

I have recently moved to Tassie from Victoria, and I'm wondering if any of you know whether the rainfall is sufficient through any of the Southern Midlands area (Rhyndaston area), to support Subs, or whether this is just a lost cause and I'll really need to head south or west to higher rainfall areas?
I knew my spots in Victoria, starting from scratch here.....
Thanks for the Tassie thread, it's much appreciated, and best of luck to you all.
Cheers OrinocoWomble72

More than enough up your way, my locations are closer to your area and at higher elevations, there will be plenty up that way at the moment. Depending on where you lived in VIC it’s unlikely to find subs growing out of suburban wood chip in TAS.
Tas, gullies, walking tracks with eucalypts or pine plantations in your area are your best bet for subs down here.

Welcome to the best place in the world!!

I live in the South East and went out for a hunt this morning at my spots which are mostly at sea level and only found 10 or so.
I think we still need a solid day or so of rain and some colder weather to really kick off the non mountain season.
I plan to make a trip up your way for a day of hunting but will wait a couple more weeks.

Thanks heaps for that. It's good to know, because the drier areas in Vic are  hopeless, and Rhyndaston only has an annual rainfall of a bit over 600mm which is around the same as Canberra, so I thought I might be wasting my time here. I'm at about 600metres on my property.
I shall give it a go here though, and hopefully find some good spots.
Have a great day - Cheers

Thanks for getting back to me - that's much appreciated. Based on the replies I'm getting, I'll spend some time searching close to home then, before I venture further afield. I'm time poor so trying to make the most of the time I can spend shrooming.
Have a great day - Cheers

I have really good luck in the SE along country roads where the soil was built up a bit to clear the road and there are plenty of gum tree or bracken rotting matter.
I have found them right next to the beach on the East Coast so rainfall isn't really that much of a key.

Was sure I'd find nothing as the uni kids would of stripped it clean but came away with 20g wet after 30min hunting

Welcome to the Shroomery vegamirmushie.

Usually the drying process takes care of them (they likely jump off / fall of when drying the mushrooms).  Should you eat them fresh and you accidentally eat a bug on it you'll be fine.  Eating the wrong type of mushroom is far more worse then eating any bugs hanging out on a magic mushroom :mushroom2:.  If you plan to dry them first before consuming, placing your mushrooms under running water and gently cleaning the mushroom will help to clean off most bugs/dirt.  Just start the drying process after giving your mushrooms a good clean.

Hello Backhand Panther.

To upload a picture follow these steps;

1 Go to the top of the screen and click on Pics (it's just under where it says Welcome Backhand Panther and right beside Account).

2 Once you click on Pics, a new tab should open or you'll be taken to a new page.  Below where you selected Pics you'll see

Upload · Text Links · Help · My Gallery · Download Backup

select Upload.

3. In the next screen you can select the picture(s) from off your computer. You can upload 1 or more picture at a time but there is a limit to be aware of.

Select 'Choose Files' beside where it says Image 1.

4. Once you select a picture, click on upload and then once it's uploaded, you'll see another screen with your picture in a small box.  Right under your picture is a link, click the link to have it copied to your clipboard and then paste that link into your post in the Tassie Actives thread.

and that's about it .

..........

Hey all, got out for my first proper hunt today, just outside a built up area in some nice wet/boarding dry sclerophyll with a nice green in the middle, north tas. No luck but so many look alikes with lots of habitat, being in a valley maybe only 60-90 meters absl could I just be unlucky in terms of other hunters clearing patches or am I a tad too early? Saw some posts from the north that got me keen but figured they might be west of some of the mountains thus colder and wetter earlier? Happy hunting everyone, hope its an awesome season.

I'm in the south, never hunted up north, they are around for sure, going by the numbers down here theres no way up north isnt popping off yet. The areas you're saying sound like sub territory, look for dead eucalypts with plenty of decaying bark around the base with moss/grass underfoot, they LOVE it, also check any back roads in your area that are dirt, you'll often find them just sitting on the side of dirt roads underneath eucalypts.

Hey dood. I'm also in the North of the state and have had no luck yet - even in my usual spots :c so I'm wondering the same .. going to spend all day tomorrow hunting but it's really disheartening when it seems like everyone else is finding them easy to find this season ..

WeBeTrippy, first up I'm a long time lurker, you and obtuse have helped me so much over the years so massive cheers, nice to of finally made an account and posted. I went to spots ive had some luck with over the years and saw lots of dug out patches so I thought maybe wild life, but for the size of ground I covered it was pretty uncanny to not come across any actives yet so many look alikes. Just seeing what others up North's experiences were so far. As you suggested I'm hitting up back roads tomorrow very keen.

Cookie, feeling you there man my thoughts exactly though I love the hunt itself, makes it that much more special when you stumble across a patch that has you loaded up after searching for so long. Good luck man, who knows might bump into you!

Thank you for the kind words, I too picked my first active mushroom off the word of obtuse, he's extremely knowledgeable on the habitat of actives in Aus. Another great thread for newer hunters or for anyone who needs a refresh on what to look for, Bobwastaken's sub guide is phenomenal:HERE!
It is based on SA climate, but you can adapt it to pretty much anywhere as subs all grow in the same conditions regardless of where they are.

Concerning on how the season is going for us in the North of the State.

I believe that things haven't really fully started/kicked in yet.  I've been to all my spots and there is nowhere near the usual amount that I'd find compared to this time in years gone by.  There could be other factors at play, but I think it's primarily that conditions aren't good enough yet (where I live we're still getting 17 - 18 degree days) with not enough  :shroompick:  either.  Might still be another week or two unfortunately.

That's not to say that their not out there (so get out there if you're keen ), their just harder to find at the moment imo.

Found these two gorgeous things on a walk through the trails of kunanyi a couple of days ago. Love that I can go for a walk in such a stunning pristine environment while gathering a natural product which provides an altered perspective further enhancing the indescribable beauty, and subsequent appreciation, of nature. Left these two for the next walk or for the next walker.

Found a new spot that yielded a little over 10g dry. Found more rotten than edible specimens, ground seemed to be drying out by 11-12pm, probably the cause of less fruits in this particular spot, season still pumping down south.

Found another 60 odd today out east of Hobart.

Most of them are pretty yellow so I'm thinking they are fruiting on the moisture from the dew only.  Also only really finding in sheltered spots.

Hoping for a good rain this week to get a few more of my spots going that haven't fruited at all yet.

The season usually runs from around April/May to August/September.  But this can (and does) change from year to year.  Also, at the start and end of each season, micro climates will play a part in fruiting subs even though other spots haven't started or have already ended for a particular season.  Some years are better then others so the best thing to do is hunt from mid May to mid July as much as you can as that's when a season is usually at it's best (give or take a couple of weeks).

Subs

Some Inactives

Btw, I've noticed more and more subs popping up at my spots (North of State) :woooaaahhh: .

Man I love hunting and finding new spots!!!

Stopped next top a highway at a likely looking spot and found 8 lovely subs, some right near the road and some just into the bracken.
But it was a little dodgy so when I got home I looked on google maps and found a back road in.
Went back yesterday through the back road and found 60 lovely subs!!
This spot is pretty hard to get to so left a good 30 pins for next time!

Hello all. I hope we are well

Long time listener, first time caller so please let me know if this is allowed or not.

I am just wondering if anyone has any luck look for subs on the west coast? My eyes have been peeled to the ground since mid April on my near daily bush walks around Queenstown, Rosebery and Zeehan. I am nearly convinced that they just do not exist in this part of Tasmania. I have seen so many beautiful species of fungi but just no subs.

Hello and welcome Zeus Flambeau and TheYellowSubmarine

Zeus Flambeau

I've been out near where you live many years ago when I had a motorbike, and from what I remember of the areas you mention, there should definitely be magic mushrooms somewhere in that part of Tassie to be found.

Here's a pic with an area I suggest you focus on.

I'd start off looking at Conservation areas, Recreation areas, reserves, and national parks.  But they literally could be growing down the road from you in a garden bed, so look everywhere you can .

Also, here's a link for a thread about Habitat shots from on this site
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16164170/fpart/1/vc/1

TheYellowSubmarine

It's preferred to not mention specific areas on this site please.  I had a little look on the internet and based on a few pics i saw of that location it could have magic mushrooms but being close to Hobart I think you're gonna be competing with other hunters.  If possible, jump in the car and head out to parks, reserves, walking tracks and anywhere else you can think of (Just keep in mind that the closer to Hobart, the great the chance others are/have looked in the same spot).  The main things to do is to avoid going onto private property and to try and look the part. Having a camera (not a smart phone) also helps to blend in and not give the Mushroom seeker vibe.

As mentioned to Zeus Flambeau, check out this link for habitat shots where magic mushrooms were found in Australia.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16164170/fpart/1/vc/1

Good luck, and remember to ask questions if you've got any, but not specific locations please .

Lastly for those new to magic mushrooms.

Unfortunately, most people WILL have to go through a stage of being disheartened as they try to find the awesome sub for the first time.  For some it can be a year or two, for other's it can be sadly be even more.  It's unfortunate, but it's just a part of the process of becoming a good hunter.  So, don't give up, keep trying to learn, and get out there cause there not gonna come to you.  Some people get lucky only after a short time, but for everyone else it just takes time and persistence and the learning of the finer art of hunting.  Magic mushrooms don't just randomly grow anywhere, there is a science to it.  So, the more you can learn about them the greater your chance of success.

For anyone with questions, this site has for a long time been a great place for new members to ask question, even ones that seem silly, so don't worry just ask and hopefully someone will answer you.  Also, if you ask a question in this Tassie thread and no one answers you, then make your own post in the Mushroom and hunting part of this site and you're more likely to be answered.

Don't give up, and YOU will get there, and then you can share in the awesomeness that is 'The Amazing MAGIC Mushroom' :mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:.

Hey guys,
I've cast my eyes upon this forum for a year or so, but this season I went for my first solo hunt and this is my small yield.
I was pretty confident when I picked these. I checked the signs multiple times.
They are now dry and ready to go but I can't help but feel a bit anxious that I may have gone wrong. It's kind of holding me back from consuming! I know the picture is a bit rubbish but hopefully it looks good to your eyes too!

I did end up throwing away the two at the very bottom. I thought they weren't blueing from being water-logged but I still wasn't overly confident once they had dried a little.

Great post Blessed!!

I'd add to that, you'd be amazed at the spots I have found right beside country roads!!
I stopped recently beside a highway the other day at an area that had a heap of slashed bracken, bracken, gum trees and pine trees.  Found 4 growing close to the road so had a look on google maps when I got home and found a back access road to the area.  Went back the that weekend via the back road and found 60!!
I've stopped looking for pine trees as much and found bracken and gumtrees seem to produce more in my area.
If it's a road with a bit of traffic I often take a garbage bag (and wear gloves) and pick up some rubbish as I go.  I put an empty maccas bag in the garbage bag and put the mushies in that.
Then not only do I look like I'm not hunting mushies, I'm doing a good deed too!!

Hey friend, avoid asking for specfic spots or hunting partners etc. Best advice I can give is read as much as you can on the forum's here, use google maps satellite and drive through the backroads as people have been discussing. Hanging out in threads here will teach you rather than being shown, in the long run you will be far more confident in your finds plus being comfortable in using this awesome site as a brilliant learning tool.

I know a good place to start.... the ground. No one is going to give you locations that they have worked hard to scout out themselves, use google maps/earth. It took me a day of research to find my first flush.

There are definitely some silly subs in that photo. The two nearest do look a little like galerinas, but it's kind of hard to tell from the photo. The two biggest indicators for me are the blue bruising and the hard stems that are common with subs. Once you've noticed those, you can do a spore print to be doubly sure. After that though, you kinda of need to just commit. But just keep in mind, if you have a decent dose and you are worried about having consumed the wrong mushroom, it may lead to a bad trip. I remember being in your exact position.

First time hunting and consuming are the hardest, once you've gained that confidence in identifying the right mushroom, things get easier. Good luck with it dude and have fun

Hey all, been out and about checking known patches from previous years and scouting new ones, finally found my first active for the season.

and these guys as well, still not sure but possibly semiglobata or hopefully alutacea. Going to try to rehydrate to see if they mature - found on cow dung.

Some cool inactive species I've found along the way

Hope everyone is enjoying the season thus far.

Went night hunting for the first time last night!!
The reason is this awesome new spot I've found is right next to a major road, so I was able to hide the torch against my chest each time a car came past.

Had a very successful hunt (found 60 odd) but had a very odd thing happen!

I found a wombat burrow in a bank along the edge of the area.  Was standing 15ft from the entrance to the borrow checking out the cool way it was made, when all of a sudden there was a massive crashing through the bracken, 20ft to my right.
It was the resident of said burrow who raced past me and into the burrow, only missing me by about 5ft.  He never looked at me but I assumed he knew I was there!
Scared the hell out of me and I think a little bit of wee came out!!

Happy hunting!

Most surreal experience the other day.  Was out for a walk amongst the pines at sea level, not expecting see to any actives, just enjoying the scenery and all the inactives around. Low and behold, when I get close to the side of the road again, where the pines merge into needle grass and bracken, subs dotted everywhere along the edge of the road and a few metres into the bush. The most I've seen at once. Southern tas. Absolutely insane. Definitely a spooky spot though for someone not too educated in identification as the subs were placed all through a super diverse bunch of fungi. All different kinds. Enjoy these pictures of a few of the standout subs:). Didn't pick any, just admired and took photos.

One of my favorite patches keeps getting eaten and kicked out the bed onto the ground, find lots of caps with no stems and pins just laying around the outside of the bed. I can only assume its an animal anyway. Have only got to pick three myself, all the rest are salvaged.

Yes this is definitely getting silly!
Been away for 5 days and after all that rain I thought I'd stop for a night hunt on the way home from work! Found about 60 at only 2 of my 8 spots!

Had a bit of a cop scare though!
Was picking in the scrub next a road and a police 4wd turned onto the road I was on and stopped about 20m from me!!
I had about 10 in one pocket and was a bit hidden so I turned my torch off andslowly turned away, removing them from my pocket and gently tossing them into a bush.
Was shitting myself until after about 10sec they turned around and drove away!!

{My first post here so hopefully I ain't screwed it up}
Finally, after muchly much anticipation the season up the northiest north of Tas has finally kicked off, been haunting my favourite spots for a few weeks now and nothin' not a pin to be seen but after that last good rain the beautiful L'll critters are starting to get over their shyness, some of my bestest spots just have happened to turn out be on my own property { YAY  } and I am encouraging by all means at my disposal to get these areas to go forth and multiply in as many places as possible, sometimes Mother Nature needs a helping hand :mushroom2:

PS: to celebrate one year of bein' on Shoomery I indulged myself with a rather epic trip {4.5 gram fan dried for 24 hours, finished for another 24 in a desiccant box} from the first of this seasons offerings, and it was bloody wonderful :laugh: }

I've only found a small handful so far all season so hopefully there's still a few more opportunities!

Welcome to the Shroomery Blackwater Witch

Magic Mushrooms are awesome, they are by far one of the most amazing things that I have ever experienced.  A few times I have been lucky enough to have experienced the effect of music literally melting as I trip, just amazing!!!!
Good luck for the rest of the season and I hope you stick around, we've lost some good members over the last few years and it's always good to share this hobby with good decent friendly people.

Hello Subrella

I'd say we've just pasted halfway through the season, so there's still time.

One thing newer hunters may not know is that while magic mushrooms (shrooms) may grow in a certain spot, it's unlikely that you'll keep finding shrooms growing in that one spot from the beginning to the end of a season.  Shrooms typically grow in flushes, so if you're lucky, one spot may produce 3 or so good flushes (weather permitting) before they stop growing (in numbers) anymore.  Some places can start fruiting early in the season and other places will typically not start producing anything until the season is underway.

It's for this reason that I recommend looking for new spots around the middle* of a given season (roughly mid May to mid July).  You could check out a spot very early in the season and think there's nothing there, but a few weeks later they'll appear.  So look for new spots in the peak of the season, and in the years to come, check back on those spots throughout the season to learn when that spot likes to start and generally end.

* the middle of a season changes from year to year, but I have found that between mid May to mid July (give or take a few weeks) that shrooms grow the most at that time.

Have a good weekend everyone

Cheers!! Already have as I found 700g wet this morning!!
Amazing season as areas that had a few or even none last season, are producing 10-20!!
I walked around an area this morning with only a jacket, thinking that whatever I found I could just put in my pockets.
Had to go back to the car after 20min as my pockets were full!!

Hey guys, new member here, first year picking. Although I have been lurking here for a couple weeks now. I have been out a few times this season and had previously found some nice ones. But now I have seem to hit a dry patch. I suppose I don’t really have a question but am possibly after some reassurance that they are still around. I am up North if that is any help.

Hello and welcome aey-kcuf

They're still around , Im in the north and I found a new patch just yesterday (23/06), at the same time my other patches are all coming to an end.  I believe that in a month from now that the season will be all most over.  They'll still be out there (in 1 month), but they'll be harder to find.  I really don't like spending hours upon hours for only a handful of subs, which is why I only plan to hunt for another 2 or so weeks, and then I done for this season.

Time is running out, I recommend you all get out and hunt now!!

Thanks for the kind words.  Glad my info has helped.

Hi everyone, first of all thanks heaps for the replies. I am really enjoying this community. I haven’t managed to get back out since my last post but I am hoping to get out over the coming days, wish me luck.

The video blew my mind I wish I could find something like some of them. I will be checking out the link also. I think at this stage I need as much help as I can get.

Good luck folks have a great weekend

They are still growing at sea level down here in the south.  Went for a quick look this arvo and picked a bunch and left heaps of pins behind!!

I find as the season progresses that they pop up more out in the open.  I have even found a heap in the dirt gutter beside a country road!!

My season has been amazing, so much so that I haven't even bothered heading to some spots that are more than 10min drive from home!!  At a guess I would say I have around 250g dried already!!

Last year I looked around pig face (ground covering plant) and found only a couple, to the point I thought it might stunt the growth of subs.  This week I found a heap growing through pig face, even some over my back fence on a spare block!!

Southern Tas is still ripping. Love to see it. The season's dragging on this year. So good. Can't be ages left I don't expect.

So took some newby hunters out to show them the ropes and a few spots, was great to hunt with other people for a change!!

Karma must be a thing because on the way home I stopped at a spot I only found a few at last year and found nearly a kilo wet!!

Some of them were absolutely huge!! Probably 20 as big as the ones in the pic!!

That's awesome Rumblefish :highfive:.

......

Should any new hunters still find any potential magic mushrooms, here's a few pictures of Psilocybe Subaeruginosa spore prints to use as a reference when doing your own.

Depending on how much light there is will determine if that distinct purple shade stands out.  I recommend using a torch moving it around to see if you can see that distinctive purple color.

As for doing a spore print, I recommend using aluminum foil as I've found it's easier for identification purpose over using plan paper, you will also need some cups and toothpicks.

For cheap cups I found these guys at Coles, cost around $2 for a pack of ten .

Place the cap of the mushroom, the cup and the toothpick like so..... .  I've read on this site that if the cap is really dry to wet the cap a little bit to help the spores drop.
You then need to leave it for 24 hours before checking for a spore print.

Btw, I've been thinking about making a Tassie Beginners Guide (anyone who wants to help/contribute please message me).  Hopefully by next year there will be a "Tassie Beginners Guide" for new hunters.

Lastly, some pictures I forgot to upload after my last hunt.

Have a good week :borat:.

Hi guys

Sorry for too many posts lately :costanza: .

If you guys don't mind, I'm gonna make another video of my best in-actives photo's (from the last 10 years).  It's been 10 years since I first found out about Magic Mushrooms and it's also been 10 years since I joined this site.  Sadly many good people have come and gone over the years.  I have been part of this site when it was more active and it makes for a better season when more of us get involved.  I believe us current members are all good people too (we probably have more newer members then older ones atm).  I just want to inspire people to get more involved in this thread, It benefits not only you but others too.

Anyway, if nobody minds, I'll upload that In-actives video soon.

This mushroom is an anomaly, never in my life have I ever seen a sub so large. 20 wet grams. Normal subaeruginosa/lighter for size reference. Didn’t happen to get a habitat pic as I didn’t pick it my mate did. :borat:

WeBeTrippyMane, Awesome one!

I think that it is not an anomaly. I know a place where they are bloody huge. This one is 20g wet too. Maybe is it another strain?

And the biggest one which I found last year was 40g wet!

what substrate did you pick that from?? fuckin' romper lmao, good shit! the one my friend picked only just opened its cap, I have picked 40g wet subs myself before with large stems and umbrella like caps but the one i posted, i was more intrigued by the thickness of the stem, I have never seen anything like it, was like a piece of balsa wood. it was growing on the roots of an extremely old eucalypt, same substrate by any chance??

Hi Guy's and Girls.

I'm done for the season.  I hope you've had success .

To the new hunters, I hope you've found some magic mushrooms, but if you didn't....  please don't give up.  As I said before....  it can sometimes take 2 or so years before any success (for many hunters this is the norm).

My advice is to look at (over the coming months) older Victoria Active Threads and to go right through them from page 1 to the very last (reading every post).  This is helpful for a few reason,  first you get to see many pictures of subs (magic mushrooms) and second is that occasionally someone will post very good advice.  I found that Vic Threads from around 2005 to 2015 are really good to learn from.  Other then that I encouraged you to use the remainder of this season to ask any questions you have on this site.

Persist and you will succeed :shroompick:

Have a good rest of the year.  See you all next time :costanza: .

Very cool video Blessed.

Also amazing to see so many giant subs. Would love to see them cloned. Obviously not allowed so no one should do this, and then not post about it

In my mind it could be a number of things, substrate, genetics, environmental conditions or even a response to some type of bacteria. Very interested to work it out.

Hope I never find one and don't clone it.

Hi Mycospasm welcome.
No replies for 10 days, the season is really ending here in Tassie. I found 4 old subs at a patch I know today but I think with the weather the way it is you might have to wait until next year to find your first batch.

Hi people,

I know it's the tail end of the season here in Tas, but I was wondering if any one knows of any areas which are known for late fruiting. Was trapped interstate and just got back recently.

Cheers

Welcome to the Shroomery.
I doubt anyone would be willing to give up their hunting locations to someone who has just joined the site. You shouldn’t be asking anyways as it is against the forum rules.

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knows about indigenous use of Psilocybe use in Tassie?

Cheers,

Evita

Does anyone have spore prints they would like to share with a fellow Tasmanian shroomer? I am very new to this group/forum!

Just a heads-up that, unlike in the United States, spore prints of Psilocybe are illegal in Australia.

One would be breaking the law to do this thing.

At least it's possible to send local stuff anonymously but be aware you're asking people to break the law.
