I freaking love mushrooms! I started picking subs last season down in Tasmania and moved up to Northern NSW late last year. I missed the cubes over summer, but happened accross a small patch of subs this afternoon in my garden... When I searched further on the property - I found a massive patch and gathered 90g wet . This bodes well!
Very happy, I had no idea whether they would grow up here or not (I'm at altitude, but it's waaaay warmer than Tassie!) And I was also down to my last 0.2g microdosing stash from last year. I swear these little guys just know when to pop up their heads. It was pure chance that I found them, and I can't even go further afield at the moment to hunt them as I have injured my leg. So it was magic to find them on my literal doorstep with such good timing!

Hey guys, having a decent season going west of the blue mountains pretty frequently. My partner is under the impression that the season is over as soon frost will nuke any mushrooms in that area and we don't have any closer spots. When you guys consider the NSW season over?
Also I'm also heading to Canberra this weekend. I have eyeballed some spots on google maps for a hunt I'd like to do in Canberra. Would anyone mind if I pm them and they can give me a broad yes/no as to whether the spots would be worth my time? Currently I note that there hasn't been any rain in the last 5 days and none expected until the weekend is there any point in still hunting?
To contribute to the thread my first double

Subs or golden tops as they are called down Canberra grow up to the snow line in the mountain ranges around Canberra. I'd be checking lowlands down there now though.
Having a good season for subs where I live. They are starting to colonise the state forest now that was logged a couple of years ago.
More exotic species will probably show up next season when the ground cover has had a better chance to grow. Creating pockets of moisture and shade for P.papuana and sect.Zapotecorum hopefully.

I moved to Sydney at the start of the year, do actives pop up much in the suburbs or are they more found out in more country areas? Judging by the weather I'm hoping they start popping up around me soon but just curious as to the best places to look.

Have not found many in Sydney itself, the majority ive picked for the first 5 years hunting for them were in the blue mountains. There is one banger spot in Sydney itself, and about 5 ive sneaked in.
Go to suburbs like Katoomba, Springwood and Wentworth Falls and have a look around there, Oberon is great, but its another hour past these places. That is where you will have your best luck about now.

Subs are at their peak right now in the Sydney area. Check creeks on clayey soil. Not sandy creeks. Look around areas where debris has been washed into little mounds.
Look in wandering Jew along creeks. It catches sticks washed down when creeks are flooding. Which happens often in Sydney with all the built up areas. Water coming down off roads into the creeks.
You can also look around bracken and tree ferns in damp areas. They should be easy to find now as the sun has lost its intensity so they'll pop up in plain sight without having to look too hard in dark places when they first start fruiting end of April in Sydney.
Sydney subs rock.

Far out - wherever I go right now there are Subs!
I'm staying at a friend's place for a few weeks and the extensive grounds are covered in woodchip beds and perfect woodland sub habitat
Here's my haul from the last few days and a few pin photos (I get to watch these little dudes grow up each day!) With no rain forecast I might experiment with watering a few patches....

Absolute Sub City in the Riverina area at the moment!!
Was literally falling over all the subs along a fire trail where P.sub was by far the dominant species. Every 10 meters there were big patches including a 25g behemoth, easiestly the biggest sub I have ever seen... There were soo many more but couldnt carry any more hehe. Collected 690g in about 3 hours.
Only took the older ones which were on their way out. Still tonnes of pins popping up. Will collect spores of the largest and bluest ones which I might cultivate at my place. Gonna take some effort to dry these lol....

So what you gonna do with all that? 700ish fresh = approx 70g dry. 2g is plenty for me per dose ~ 70 divide by 2 = 35 doses!!
Party at your place
Lol.

Some of those subs are in pretty bad shape sidz. If you are planning to consume them and want to avoid any aditional nausea, I'd recommend avoiding the ones with the black/rotting gills. Probably no shortage of larvae in those ones too.
That large stemmed one is a beauty of a specimen. Pretty rare to see stems that fat, nice find!

Are conditions in Blue Mountains too dry at the moment? After a first flush a few weeks ago, there's been nothing!
