Nice!  I found a bunch of stunzii at work and really want to upload some pictures but I'm getting the 'you hit your weekly upload limit' thing.

Is there a way to get that limit increased?

Found my first cyan patch EVER and it looks like it's just starting to fruit. I picked some juveniles not realizing how small they were. I took five with me and am saving 'em. I kind of regret havin picked 'em, probably should've let them grow some more but they were such a wonderful sight and I just couldn't help myself. I knew they were cyans the second I saw them. They blue so hard and are such pretty little things. I was high as fuck just walking home with them in my bag. I think the weather has just gotten right for 'em here the last week or two and soon they'll be boomin. Temps have been under 15 celsius daytime and less than 10 night, and the rains have been good. My baeo patch seems to have survived all the rakings it's suffered so far (for the most part) and I think it might escape the next ones 'cause it's started to pin further back from the path, more out of sight. I'll post pics when everything matures.

Found my first actives ever today.  This was my third hunt so far, and the moment I saw these cyans I knew I was golden.  I feel bad for taking the small ones, but the spot was too open to leave them.

P.S. I've never eaten shrooms before, but figured it would be fun to hunt for some.  Any one know a good beginner dosage for dried cyans?

Keep searching, folks. I was searching around a few days ago in West Seattle in a habitat that just seemed perfect - open deciduous woods, hardwood chips underfoot from a few years ago slowly breaking down into the soil, lightly covered with leaves and vines and weeds. I came across a whole giant troop of coprinus comatus and I just sat down on a fallen log next to them for a minute, paused, took a breath, enjoyed my surroundings. Then I literally asked the coprinus out loud, "So my friends, you haven't happened to have seen any cyans around here, by any chance?"

And I kind of laughed at myself, and glanced down to my left, and there were a dozen cyan pins, within six inches of my shoe!

Then again tonight I was in a different place in West Seattle, and the habitat felt just totally perfect, year old hardwood ships under alders, overrun with some blackberries, and it was like I could sense that they were there if I just looked hard enough, and I asked them to come out, and looked for an hour, as the light was fading and it was getting harder to see, and found nothing. But I know they are there! I can feel it! I'll be back there...

(I did find a tasty tree full of pleurotis for my troubles, and two awesome Birch boletes!)

congrats on your find.

personally i find high doses (2-3g dry) more enjoyable/less stressful than "conservative" ones, given ideal setting. 1g is conservative: you might be very sensitive.

As for every active mushroom, the amount of active alkaloids can very quiet a lot from fruit to fruit.
So even 1 gram can be quiet intense. It also very much depends on other factors (set/setting etc).
I had 5 grams of Cyans once, but the most intense experience I've ever had was 11 days ago on 1.7 grams.

Anyway, 1 gram is a dose seems to be OK for someone with no experience.
If I remember correctly, the first time I had Cyans (which wasn't the first time I tripped), I took 0.8 grams and it was absolutely enough.

I wouldn't suggest more than a gram for a first timer, just for you to know what you're dealing with...

So i just gotta put this out there.  I know its not people on here.  But there are some fucking stupid mother fuckers in seattle.  So many pickers being obvious at like every single park in seattle.  people were tearing up mycelium and steppig on pins everywhere.  and even picking bag fulls of tiny baby pins.  WTF !!!!!

Well, there are some stupid fuckers out there that have no idea what they are doing (in regards to picking, or what happens when you tear out mycelium) All I can say is that if you run into someone like that, try to educate them. It won't ever hurt anything to have one more "smart" hunter out there. But in retrospect, that's fucking weak. One reason why I stay away from Seattle. Less people.

As long as you are finding a patch of more than a few cyans, the bruising is usually apparent without even picking. There is usually a few dry ones with some bruising, or really old ones with bruising.

Every patch I have ever found with more than 5 mushrooms had at least a few with blue bruises; without even touching them. I have also noticed that the first place a cut mushrooms bruises is the cut, followed by the margin.

I also ran into some Seattle Idiots today, at a popular park. Once they left I found what they had missed, a few mature cyans.

I would like to clear something up as well.... I notice that many of the posters who presumably hunt on this message board think that it is best to cut the mushies out of the ground, rather than plucking them.  That is the old knowledge.  It has recently been put forward by Stamets in lectures that cutting is bad and plucking is good.  He says that plucking can actually help stimulate new growth and/or fruiting.  cutting basically leaves a bloody stump in the ground that leaves the whole mycelial mat open to infections.  Any thoughts? Anybody disagree with Stamets?  also....

Not sure on that one, but one of the patches of stuntzii I found back in august that I just picked all of the mushrooms has almost doubled in flush size since then. Interesting. I have heard that leaving some steam left can hurt the mycelium once it begins to rot, but I've only seen this with boletes. But I would guess that it's different with any mushroom. I know that when picking morels, you want to cut the cap and steam off, but with other mushrooms, I'm gonna say, better safe, than to rip um out of the ground.

This info isn't "new" as well, since it was discussed years ago:wink:

I have no idea in what way the mushroom changes any aspects of his defence system when the current flush starts to decay, but to me this doesn't make too much sense.
When you don't pick the fruits, they start to decay/rot anyway, so the mycelium naturally has to deal with this issue. I can't believe, that it hasn't a way to deal with it.

Another thing is, that there's plucking and there's ripping.
If you're careful and take your time, clean plucking shouldn't be problem. Unfortunately, many people simply rip out whole clusters and therefore plenty of mycelium as well.

In addition, I have personally made the experience, that patches I've seen being "raped" by people ripping out tons of mycelium, die out quiet quickly (without fruiting during upcoming seasons), while the patches no one but me has found (at least no one but me was harvesting) still fruit, even after four years of picking by me. Makes it quiet clear to me...
