i dont believe in the devil as opposed to god... i believe in lucifer, though... who is here not banished by god, but on his own account... to show us the "other side"... selfless... he is definitely one of gods creation... so instead of cursing him we should thank him for giving us the oportunity to experience god's magnificence this way...

What evidence can you posit for the existence of Satan that cannot be the result of an evil human heart?

I was speaking in metaphor.  The 'heart' is the aspect of the mind called the will or volition.

And you didn't stop and see me while you were on my Continent!

cheers,

It's interesting to note that Christianity and Catholicism in particular depicts "God" and "Satan" as singular conscious entities. Not only do these entities have egos, they can physically manifest themselves in the mortal world. God and Satan both have "agendas".

I believe the concept of "Satan" was born out of the idea that obeying certain human impulses and base desires is "evil". When a person succumbs to the beast within, he is being tempted by Satan. (ie, stealing a candy bar or something else that christians find immoral, like pre-marital sex.)

Early humans, confused by the rigid doctrines of the catholic church were undoubtedly confused about their temptations to do "evil" deeds. Thus, Satan, the great scapegoat, was created to bear the guilt of mankind.

Christians are taught that they have "free will"; this is a sham. Any positive or negative act is thought to be influenced by God or Satan. Christians are not responsible for their "sins", because Satan tempted them.

Human beings are the only life forms on this planet that are able to conciously change their realities. Because we can make changes that are positive and negative, (good and evil) guidelines must be set in place to avert disaster to the current reality. Actions were lumped into Good and Bad categories, and written upon stone tablets or parchment or whatever they used.

My point?

Christianity is obsolete. In a world not only of shades of gray, but of colors too, black and white thinking is outdated. Satan is the great bogeyman, invented to serve the purpose of terrifying peasants. It is important to remember that Catholicism in particular is geared towards control of the general public.

Religion was the earliest form of mind control, and still exists today in every country on the planet. People from all walks of life subscribe to some form of religion. In a world where the average person can establish his or her own set of morals and judgements, religion is no longer needed.

I believe in the bibles revelations, BUT i don't believe that theres a devil, or great evil entity. I don't believe that the antichrist would be satan himself, but the anti-christ is only an evolutionary tool. Thats another post im working on all together.

'Satan' is an anagram for 'Santa.' Satan's claws are always trying to grab people but through the work of the various christian churches it became more and more difficult for him to do so. Therefore, he changed his personna and became Santa Claus, instead of Satan's Claws trying to grab you, Santa Claus does. He tempts you to do evil so he won't have to shell out the bucks come christmas time for all those gifts...

At least that's how MarkostheGnostic told it to me (but with more mystical sounding words, obscure religious history and various other stuff to make it sound really scholarly).

--------------------
To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

It would take man another 50 to 100 years for them to learn that they are gods in ammenisa. The anti-christ is only a man that will speed the process up for man to discover christ in-self in about 10 to 15 years.

I don't believe in the christian hell or heaven. In the movie signata at the very end, they thought they found one of jesus's orginal writtings, that it said "the gates to the kingdom of heaven in you" I believe that this world (present) is closest thing to hell (only because we haven't evovled), and that world peace, and the knowledge of god-inself is the closest thing to heaven on earth.

I like to think of psychedelics as the key to this kingdom of heaven inside yourself.
