Finally found 3 tiny patches yesterday. Pretty much all pins. Looks like someone was there first. How long to pins take to fruit? 1-? days. Please help. I wanna be the first to get back to them.

Well, pins don't "fruit", but mature! Butt I guess that's what you meant. It's dependant on the weather how long it takes. If it's rather dry it can take a week to even two.
When it's raining all the time, they should be fine within three to four days.

he says" son of a bitch,that is so cool. good eye man."
so i ask if i can have them and he winks at me and smiles and says" go ahead." hes obviouly doesnt do them,he must have been around 70.but he still though it was cool.and he was very impressed i knew a thing or 2.
so these are the bigger ones, i left all the beauty pins still coming up for him to enjoy.:wink: finally found one with a very thick stem .most i find have thin stems like ive stated before.


What do the really thick stems mean? I stumbled upon a patch but a few had incredibly thick stems which made me question if they were my beloved Ps. Cyans. Long story short they are cyans. So why the big stems? Is it just the strand of Cyans or is it something else?

naw i was just noting a few days ago how everyone elses cyans always have such nice thick stems and the ones i find always have thinner stems.thats all.

but ya thanks people. it was a cool experience for sure.:smile: the look on his face, he had no idea.and i am sure he knows all the species of mushrooms on his property.it was priceless. and how he was like "son of a bitch,good eye man" definetly made my day. i learned lot of cool information and getting a handful of cyans to boot was icing on the cake.

The season is not over by any means where I live.  Patches are becoming exhausted, but the weather has been epic.  :thumbup:

I just took these photos this afternoon.  I hope nobody touches these for a few days...but I'm not overly optimistic considering they're right out in the open at a city park.  :smile:

Thanks. Ive hunted here 4 years and found one patch in '07 till this year and that patch was ripped up after getting only 3 grams. Ive put in easily 60 hrs a season with minimal luck--till now. It just feels like hundreds of fruitless hunts has finally paid off. I feel very grateful. or should i say lufetarg?

Me too.

My spots are flushing hard and it seems like the other harvesters of them are snoozing or something. But as a rule, the caps are never bigger than a quarter before they're done growing (most more like a nickel), and the stipes are seldom fatter than well-cooked spaghetti. i thought the big meaty stuff you've been finding was a washington state thing!

thats what i figured cause my first spot hasnt produced more then one or two pins in that last 2 1/2 weeks. they were growing in grass though, and this new big patch was in dirt/woodchips. i randomly decided to drive a little farther down the road from my main spot and came across this new huge patch. never have i seen soo many baeos within an area of 50 feet. there were a few pins i saw too so i plan on going back end of this week to see if theres anything new. ill be sure to post my findings!

This has been a lucky year for me, i've run into cyans, liberties, blue ringers, and azures! thanks for all the help in these forums, they made this a successful season for me

today was a great day... thank you mushroom gods... I followed a frog (always frogs... by the cyans.. along with slugs and salamanders) from this spot I've been picking from, associated with a magic tree stump which had 7-8 cyans growing in a line on top of it.  and right there among the leaves in the path of the frog not 20 feet from the previous stump was another stump which had cyans growing around it's base, by the tens and twenties.  I dropped to my knees... I gathered as many large ones as I could... they were huge.  I still consider myself a beginner... and my area (humboldt) isn't that great for shady, grassy spots under the trees, where you don't have to go crawling in the bushes or dune grass.  but now I know their magic even more after today, and now I can see they are there and they are everywhere...

Wish I had my camera/phone today...

So, I'm walking up to my buddy's front door and find a cluster of 5 mid sized boletes in his yard.  I look closer and smak dab in the middle of the cluster is one single tiny cyan (cap about the size of a penny).  I looked all around and found no trace of any other caramel caps in his yard or nieghbirs yards. 

This was the most odd find I've come accross in a LONG time so I thought I'd share the story, regardless of the lack of pics. 
And, yes, I'm DAMN SURE she was a cyan. :thumbup:

Yes I believe it.  Near the end of the season you find strange random solitary cyans that were working all season long to produce something...anything.

I picked a few today, some tiny, some fat.

Haven't really been posting my findings but I've probably got about 50 Ps. Cyans in the last week. I know it is nothing to brag about but this is still my best season so far(maybe 110 this season). I have also seen some pictures on this site of patches that have more in about 20sq. ft. than i have ever even seen in my life! Amazing stuff on here!

If you keep up hunting, it's likely that -one day- you'll stumble upon of these patches yourself. So don't worry!

Meanwhile you can do something about it and try to create new patches yourself. Not hard at all and very productive :wink:

Shit man, I went pre season scouting with a friend of mine a while back and while at a park i saw this garden out in front of storage building that looked like it would be the perfect habitat and told my friend that we should go back there. So he and another guy go there and find a few(this was just about 3 weeks ago). While a friend of mine and I were driving around to different places looking for azures - We drove by the park and we pulled in - took a look. Jesus Christ - It was a huge ass patch. They were everywhere. One of the biggest patches I've ever seen - including pictures on this site. Any ways we dropped to our knees and started pickin'. I got way to exited and pulled up a shit load of mycelium ..... way too much. We grabbed as much as we could hold and I said that it would be a good idea to go and dump them off at his house then go immediately back with bags to hold the rest in. So we ran back to my car - jumped in - started it up - and sped off laughing and smiling with joy. After driving about 500 feet up the road and we take the first left - a cop was driving our way - he passed us and took the right to go exactly where we just were. So we weaved away through the towns neighborhoods to not get pulled over. So I;m not sure if somebody called the police while we were there or if it were just odd chance that they were going there. Eh, at least we got to get part of what was there - plus the 7 azures we picked. I got about 25 grams dry of cyans and three blues that day. Before that I'd say the most I've found was like 7 grams dry. Most of the time only like 2g dry or so though.
