Damn nice find, are these growing from some kind of wood chips under that brush?

yaaaaaaaaaaay a week of rain, I can't wait to actually start seeing significant signs of life around Portland, haven't found squat yet.

Haven't seen anything just north of you. Do you typically find them in the Portland area? Or do you have to go to the coast? Ive been walking around the Columbia river tributaries and have yet to find any. But I will continue till I do or someone tells me that i am way cold and need to search elsewhere.

their probably growing from some old chips or some old blackberry stalks,
i have a cool picture from last year of cyans growin from the old stalks that litter the ground under the bushes, those are good early season spots to check

Could you post some of those pictures, I am really interested in cyan hunting outside of wood chips. My goal is to find natural habbitats for all the mushies in oregon.

Nice! I've seen Cyans popping all over my area in grassy margin zones that hold moisture well, but not so much in straight wood chips yet.

Yep, same here. All of my Cyan finds so far have been in grassy kind of areas.

Were they growing through the dirt?
Or was there wood chips/debris?

There was definitely woody debris. I just meant that they were found in grassier spots than I'm used to seeing them in.

I found these guys across the street about 200 feet from my house on my way home. I knew i decided to walk to school today for a reason

they are one foot from the curb and i ride my bike by them everyday.

its all about the grassy areas until the rains come, theres not much in woodchip beds.

a bunch of these around too.

huh...  I took a really short walk through part of the Redmond area today and I'm seeing many more amanitas than I usually do this time of year...  Odd.
Does anyone have a guess as to why?  Could it be from that bomb NASA set off on the moon? ;-)

give any thought to checking your former client's yard?  I know if it were me, I sure would.  I might even scatter some wood mulch there (not enough for him/her to notice and get pissed about).  But...  That's just me. :-)

i wonder if searching logged areas maybe with lots of saw dust or maybe even loging sites from last year would be a worth while search

Only problem is patches fruit for approximately three years before the nutrients is used up.

Going to go hunt the blackberry bushes today! Will report on the results.

going to check out my property tonight if I get home before dark. I'll be quite surprised & saddened if I don't find any on my acre of land

Absolutely.  I found huge patches of cyans near a hardwood logging area on my drive out to camping in the Olympic rain forest several years ago.  The pine forests, probably not so much.  But where they are logging hardwoods, you betcha! :Palin wink:

You might want to post an ID request for both of those mushrooms, because ^^^that^^^ doesn't look like a cyan to me, but I'm no TI.

And definitely post an ID request for the post above mine, this thread is for confirmed finds only not for identification.

I agree that it looks a little off for a cyan, but it probably is.

It is bruising blue on the margin so it should be fine even if it isn't P. cyanescen. It is something closely related, at least.
