How many of you believe in god?

I don't believe in god, but I do believe in life after
death. I believe that thogh for the same reason most
people believe in god. Because I don't want to stop
existing. That's why people created religon, so they could
deal with death. I have no proof to prove there is a
god, but then again I have no proof to believe there isn't.
However there's so many religions I believe none of them
are correct. It's also odd how Jesus Christ had such a big
impact on the word at his time. I mean our calender is
dated after him so there must've been something special
about him.
My whole opinion on religon is, every relgion is wrong and
no one will ever know if there's life after death, there's
only hope. Do any of you strongly disbelieve in religion
and if so, why?
I'm sure this has been brought up befor but I'm still "new"

First of all "It's also odd how Jesus Christ had such a big
impact on the word at his time}
Jesus had an impact on only a few people during his life time, mostly through his travelling. It was only many centuries after his death did "his" teachings impact a large portion of anyone.
I don't like organized religions. Simple as that. I can't say I don't beleive in them, 'cuz well I see churches all the time, and thats pretty much proof religion exists. "Religion" (organized) in my eyes is just a concept that everyone can feel good about and conform to, and feel wanted and needed and accepted. Just like the jocks in highschool, or punk rockers, or ravers. Its all the same, and I don't really hate it all , but its not really for me. I beleive what I beleive, because I've experienced all the evidence I need to know to beleive it. Not because someone said it was the right way, or the wrong way. Just a melding of my own experiences.
I don't beleive in any central "god", just in a sort of unified energy of the universe. The universe is a single entity, and I am a part of that entity, like my toe is a part of me. People didn't create religion out of a fear of death, they created life after death, because of fear of death.

ya... I pretty much believe in whatever comes along during the course of a regular day. Then, at the end of the day, I either sort it out, and see where it all fits, or I go to sleep and forget about it.
I look at all the religious people, most of them think they have it all figured out, that they are better than everyone else because of it. I hear them saying "God Bless America!" And I think to myself, "Are you fucking blind or just ignorant? Jesus Christ, I mean look at yourselves! Does God really bless you, or are you just kidding yourselves?" I just cannot believe the shit that is going down in Gods name right now. And not just pertaining to the "War on Terrorism".
If God blesses America, does he say "Fuck the rest of the world."? Why are some people so EXTREMLY rich, when something like 80% of the worlds children are starving to death as we speak. Literally, starving to death. Dying in the dirt. Meanwhile, we're flocking to the movie theatres to see J Lo's newest flick, and she's being handed $20 million in cash. One person. God Bless America. Fuck the rest of us.
Don't blame religion, blame the fucking hypocrits.

If you want the Truth, you're going to have to 'seek.' You are evidently not on a seeker's path now, so you listen to the outer world and it's surface undersatndings; it's childishly literal and concrete notions. When Carl Jung was asked, "Do you believe in God?," he responded, "I don't need to believe - I Know." "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed," is a quote attributed to Jesus of Nazareth. For some people, faith is a result of a life-changing Experience. This is what happened to Saul of Tarsus (who thought he was serving God), only to have the classic mystical Experience that changed him from Saul to Paul. Saint Paul. In order to 'Know,' one has to make an 'experiment with Truth,' as Mahatma Ghandi called it. One has to take the position that God IS Ultimate Reality - that it is in God that "...we live and move and have our being," as Paul put it. We are in God as fish are in the sea. Do fish know they are wet? Most people don't 'Know' that they are in God, and therefore, God is not in them. And that, at bottom, is why the world is the way it is. Saul began his spiritual career killing the new Christians, thinking it was God's work. Bin Laden on a small scale. When God is in you, you become Christ-like in varying degrees (of sanctification or wholeness or holiness). The more Compassion, the greater the Wisdom. Hope this helps clarify.

I still dn't see why you believe in god. You say you just
know, but how? You believe because you want somewhere to go
after death. You want to live in a utopian heaaven and
visit all those you have lost to death. That's what I hate
about religion, how it messes with the nieve. There is no
"heaven, or "hell", or "god". There may be something witch
even I somewhat doubt. The only thing that I question is,
what happens to my counsiousnes(SP) after I die. Does it
just go away, is there any possible way it can live without
my body? Those are my only questions, you just need to
realize you were brainwashed by your paarent aand the rest
of society as a child. IMHO :)

This has nothing to do with god if you ask me. Believing, or knowing, the excistence of god is simply accepting that your a part of something bigger. And that bigger thingy is also a part of something bigger etc. You are also god, and your toe also etc.
God is infinite

Actually Hypnotic, I am a Diplomate in Clinical Hypnotherapy, and I was never hypnotized by my unbelieving parents. I discovered God through a combination of transcendental, or mystical inner experience, and the faith in ancient wisdom recorded in a variety of scriptures. My faith is as a Jewish Christian Gnostic, because my scriptural faith is conjoined to inner experience or gnosis. Experiences of a mystical nature preceded my knowledge of scriptures. You will need to learn that your individual sense of being - of identity - derives from Being Itself. Until you 'realize' that you are not just a 'wave' that comes into existence and leaves, but the very Ocean from which the wave emerges and then merges with - you will never have an answer to your questions.

a circle inside a circle inside a circle inside a circle.....and on into eternity....and vice versa.
Binded by black and white, blinded by shades of grey, lost in the seas of color, finding the one in the empty void.
Hug yourself, you have found God.

id rather say a spiral inside a spiral
but i definitely agree with markos the gnostic... we are in god... and not only in him... we ARE god... we were build in his image and likeness... not physically, but spiritually... we were born as creators, sadly most people dont recognize this, and they live their lives believing in a god separate from them who is punishing them with so many different things, when its really themselves creating their lifes that way...
hypnotic: read "the power of now" by eckhardt tolle, or "conversations with god" by neale donald walsh...

I for one was very happy being pagan, I had no need to believe one way or the other. (Actually, I wasn't so happy, my life was fucked up, but it might have just been the timing.) Like you, I doubt that we'll all go to heaven and we'll be chilling with our dead relatives... I also agree that such a view is very optimistic (though I don't think it looks all that good).
I also don't know if "God" is really the Jesus story, the Buddha story, none of them, all of them... It doesn't concern me that much. There are a lot of things that I don't understand completely, and I don't care about that either. God may in fact be hidden in Quantum Physics.
You think we're brainwashed for believing, I think you're brainwashed for not believing. Strip yourself of all preconcieved notions of what God is, you are most likely right in saying that most people are probably wrong.

I finally got "Nothing in this book is true......" also but I have to finish the Power of Now first, I have about 50 pages left, alot of pausing and absorbing what I have just read, so its taking longer than my average read. The book is absolutely amazing.

The question to ask is not "God, do you exist?" its "God, where are you?" .. Nothing really matters.. It doesnt matter if God does exist, the effect of his existance exists, which is all that really matters.. Aside from that, my belief in God has helped me to conquer quite a few idiotic human things.. like hate or whatever.. ( lol, you wouldnt believe that from some of my posts, but believe me on this one). God.. you feel God all the time.. God is love, and i dont mean making love.. true, pure, love. Hypnotic... i wish i could help you. I am not brainwashed, I was like you at one point.. amazing how when I totally re-examined everything, so much I formerly saw as bad, I saw as good and necessary... It doesnt matter if God exists or not, cuz He exists ;p .. Youre trying to pinpoint God as a single entity, a god. How do you know that is what He is? How don't you know that God is, say, The Universe itself. That way, we're all really part of the same thing.. we're all connected through God

yea... power of now is great. if anyone wants to read up through the end of the first chapter check out:
www.swib.com/thepowerofnow
and about the whole god, religion thing. i don't believe in god, i don't believe in any religion. i do believe in the whole universe having it's own energy. some of you are calling this god, but if you look up god in any context, it's always dealing with religion, therefore i won't use that word to describe what i think is the unifying energy (you know, that stuff js420 was talkin bout ).
