You offer no support for your statement that a young black man from New York City has a better chance of succeeding than a young white man from a trailer trash state like Kentucky. Saying we have more class mobility than anywhere else in the world is just repeating a saying.

But then it gets worse after that. You say that people can rise from the bottom to the top in America (but realistically, how many do?), and if they don't they're just a lazy fuck who says America is systematically racist. So are you being willfully ignorant? Obviously.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Way to Generalize a whole group of people. I'm from kentucky and im not a racist. Although their are racist and for the most part kentucky is filled with boomers who are racist. I give old people a pass tho nothing will make them change. I call people out when I see real racism. Not some watered down shit you like to pretend to call people out on.

And atleast Kentucky isnt being ravaged by covid right now. So theres that and nothing I've said has been racist so stop being so sensitive.

So here we are forum contributors - stuck in a yes it is racism vs no it is not racism debate again, without first agreeing what racism means. Those with good memories may remember how a while ago I raised this very point and was roundly dumped on.

Let me condense the current disagreement to one very simple observation. If ANY form of unequal outcomes of a system splitting along racial lines is automatically racist then the current system is racist. As are the music industry and NBA which produce outcomes favouring Black people, finance and sector where Jewish people appear to thrive etc. There is no need to prove that anyone has intentionally designed or is running the system this way - it is racist by definition.

If, on the other hand, racism requires an action/inaction targeting a certain racial group then there is a bit of work to be done before we can establish that a system is racist. One would first need to show that the system treats different people differently depending on their race - meaning for example "your skill is good but you are White and we want a Black point guard". With this definition of racism one need to prove racial bias.

Yet here we are, again exchanging silly "it is racism" vs "no it is not racism" arguments without first agreeing on what the term actually means.

So I do not sound holier - I am struggling to eradicate my own racist attitudes. I always had an intensive dislike for the East European mentality and values. This social conservatism, dislike of the foreigners, putting others down, religious zealotry, peeking out through the blinds to see what the neighbours are up to - it all makes me cringe. This corner of the world is quite ethnically uniform so I guess my problem qualifies as racism? To dissolve my mental poison I now have an Indian partner and interracial child so maybe there is hope?
