How does remulching affect growth? There are a ton of mulched areas near me and want to be able to pin point my search to the most habitable ones. I also know of an area where I was told they fruit but it looks like they have placed new mulch over everything. Will this mean those spots are just going to colonize and hold off on fruiting this season?

I'm going stir crazy in NJ. I just went putt and checked my spot and there's celandine everywhere. I'm worried I won't even see the fruits once they pop.

I only have a few posts on here, but I've been browsing/studying/obsessing over these Ovoid pages for 5 long years now... Today! Was THE Day! I took my sister out, who was showing me some pluteus mushroom or who really gives a shit because from about 5ft away I spotted my first finds ever! Some tiny little pinners... then more and more and bigger and better... seriously y'all, soon as they started getting deep blue, I about melted. This was the best day of my life  besides having my son. To say I'm fucking stoked is an understatement. Thank you for everyone's helpful links, gorgeous pictures, and willingess to bestow fungi knowledge on all us noobs! Tho, I'm not sure 5 years should be considered an amateur mayb just straight unlucky. Anywayzz here we go

Whoa those are killer!

I've been keeping an eye on these Ovoid threads for a few years now but I was in a place where they didn't grow. Now that I'm in the right area I'm hoping to have an experience like yours here in the next few weeks.

Good Job!

Hello all
Plants are just starting to come to life here in the Hudson Valley NY, but when I was at the vet with my dog I was told that the ticks have been bad all winter! Even though we had a cold and snowy winter
My point is keep a vigilant watch for those little fuckers, Lyme disease is no joke
Peace

I used to hunt almost every day this time of year, I no longer have the energy. If I weren't on meds my joints would swell up to the point I couldn't use them, I also have nerve damage. Imagine wading into a thicket of used syringes, that's about the risk of exposing yourself to ticks while out in the field. The Borrelia bacteria is only one of several serious diseases they can transmit.

What state? These literally look like they don't belong in that kind of soil/growing straight from wood. Those look like a spiritual gift from something! xD

And who else hunts the Ohio River Valley? I used to base my hunts on Satanicshroomer but I havn't heard from him since last season.

DeathSquad, gblunts420, and Wubbledubbledubdub .. Glad to see a couple peeps able to find some this week!

DeathSquad .. That's a nice looking mulch setup. :super:  Is that a personal garden?  If so, that's really cool.

herbtaylor .. Congrats on finally finding ovoids!!  Those are some pretty looking specimens too!

No luck for me yesterday concerning ovoids.  Ended up going down near koods' way and checked along the main river.  There were some of the oldest and largest box elders I'd ever seen all along that beautiful system.  They'd have to be though to still be standing after the floods that occur there. I saw a lot of perfect habitat, but no ovoids.  Everything just seemed too dry.  Also, I believe that there's just too many eyes wandering about.  There were ppl everywhere on trails that looked good.  Further north of where I was may be a better bet, but won't know until I actually look.
Other than not finding ovoids it was a good, but exhausting, day.  There's so much to take in while biking around.  Such a beautiful landscape!  I wouldn't mind spending a day walking along the river, just to see the parts I couldn't from the main trail.  At least I was able to find some ramps (actually ended up sleeping among a couple patches on wed night).  Oh, and koods was really cool and helpful!  Apparently I was pretty close to his spot.  I stayed off the creeks though while down there.  Thems koods' creeks! lol.

I'm in SE OHIO, DubSpore!
Thanks for mentioning that... it may not look like sandy soil, but it is! In fact, all I did was move up the river 20 miles or so to where I lived for 18 years (rip me off for not knowing about these as a kid) because I knew the ground was mostly sand. When I lived there, I always thought it was so strange that I could hear someone walking down my driveway from inside my house... something to do with the sand?? Idk I'm not a scientologist :p
This has been the Only change in habitat(I've noticed) from the spots I have been diligently searching for years that seemed to be perfect.MORE SAND.
Also, most of them were growing from/around that pretty big piece of slash for sure, but they were still clearly ground mushies. Not growing out of logs or anything. They are perfect to me, haha, A gift from the heavens, Absolutely!

MUSH LOVE to y'all thank you for the kind words

New spot. So dry. I think it will really pop when it rains. Spent an hour with a bucket dumping creek water on these. Saw a wild turkey. That's all.

I do believe so.
higher levels of baeocystis and norbaeocystis are rumored to be the cause of that.

Also individual who face more histamine problems with mushrooms like over-ly mucous-y, niacin type flushing of the skin are some ways to know if you a slight allergy to a fungal protein.
