Really well that's interesting...good to know thank you very much...does this only occur with higher doses,  or is it more of an individuals unique reaction to the higher levels of baeo analogues?

never heard of this with ovoids, Petey.  i've seen someone consume 4g (yup, 4) of ovoids with nothing more than the initial drunken walking thing that usually happens right after the comeup.  i don't think i've read of it on the board, either.

interesting topic though so maybe start a thread for it rather than ITT so that it'll get more exposure and won't clutter the season thread?

Went turkey hunting this morning. Didn't see or hear anything. So I went to pick more ovoids. Lol. Also, while I was not finding turkeys, I found a shitload of pinning ganoderma tsugae. I'm going to be a busy guy come May!
My newest patch has been continuously growing fresh specimen for the last week without rain. Not any large numbers but every time I got I'm blown away. I think with adequate rain that spot will explode.

Found this solitary gilled mushroom with a bite taken out of it:

And the culprit what beats me to the chase:

I attribute all my shortcomings to his(I just assume) greedy beak!

I've found a lot of Entoloma 10-20' from the creeks I've searched; does anybody have experience sighting these and how does their habitat compare to ovoids?

Thank you!

New spot. So dry. I think it will really pop when it rains. Spent an hour with a bucket dumping creek water on these. Saw a wild turkey. That's all.

That's what's up!  Tasty looking morel you have there.  Would love to find a bunch of those this spring.  ...
I was thinking about fruits along the main flow.  It occurred to me that there's been a pretty good flood around your way the past couple of years.  I think with the right amount of time for things to settle into place, that whole area could explode!  Good finds either way. :yesnod:

Peek-a-boo from Oregon

Ovoids happen in city parks out here, so people will try to cover patches of pins with leaves.  Whoever did this job drew me right to them

Then there's this old fella

What state? These literally look like they don't belong in that kind of soil/growing straight from wood. Those look like a spiritual gift from something! xD

And who else hunts the Ohio River Valley? I used to base my hunts on Satanicshroomer but I havn't heard from him since last season.

Ohio River Valley right here.  And yeah I've been wondering about that satanicshroomer dude too.  They are trying to pop here in NE Kentucky.  My main spot is up in some higher elevation and deep hollows, steep hills.  It stays a little cooler out there than the rest of the county but I scoped out a killer looking stream today in the northern part of my county. Its not a bass boat creek but more like a stepping stone stream.  You can tell its a raging river during floods from the little debris patches stuck 15 feet up in the trees lol. I noticed the other night I left from my property and when I got out to a friends house near the new stream it was atleast 10 degrees warmer.  I was thinking about checking it in the morning but I'm calling it off until rain comes. Its just as good out here as it is anywhere, sometimes the terrain is a bitch but its worth it when they finally get kicking.  The next mother load could be lurking just around the next bend in any given creek anywhere.

My ? is - are you actually in a hollow or mountain area or just an area that hilly w/ steep terrain?

Wow, greats finds and pics everybody. I'm visiting family in the mid Ohio valley (my old stomping grounds) this weekend and will probably get out on Monday to check my old spots. It's a little early for them to be starting up here, but it's not unheard of. There's a pretty large morel patch adjacent to one of my ovoid spots, so either way I'm hoping it will be a successfully hunt.

Texturedsounds - Yep, that mulch bed was installed last spring during ovoid season. I used colonized woodchips and stem butts placed into pasteurized sawdust and let them colonize. Layered mulch and sawdust clones and then cases with straw. With us having such a mild winter, it fruited all the way up until January. About a month ago I cased with with a nice layer of mulch and within a 10 days they were poking through the surface. I can't wait to come home from this weekend to see how it looks!

I hope to hear from Satanicshroomer as well.

Happy Zombie Jesus Day!

I'm beginning to wonder if I might find these in southern ontario. I'm directly across the lake from Erie, PA. Is anyone that far north in Pennsylvania, Ohio or Michigan finding Ovoids?

That morel was in/near the wood chips koods?  Also, do those wood chips flood really bad?  Its hard to tell from the pic looks floody but then I see no hilly backdrop but there are dirt wad thingies.  What do you think those are from?  Maybe decaying blankets of thick grass like the stiltgrass just rot down to little dirt nuggets like that?  I always see that sort of stuff where the grass is.  Or maybe the grass just catches/holds it better.

Thatch?: A tightly bound layer of dead grass, including leaves, stems, and roots, that builds up on the soil surface at the base of the living grasses.

:mushroom2: mush love!...congrats on your first find!!!

I always eat my first mushroom of the season as a silly tradition to say that I am one with mush!...but, it also gives me an idea of their potency.

This used to be my practise(W/cyan) until more and more one freshie was effecting me enough to make it not safe to drive.

Great finds my back east Brothers and Sisters. Also, perhaps an Urban campaign of spawn dispersal is in order to keep from dealing with ticks, snakes, stickers, prickers and the likes? Flash forward in time when  going to the market, school, library, court, ect your also hunting and picking.

I wouldn't go as far to call them mountains but just some big steep hills.  I live in one of the biggest counties in Kentucky.  The southeast part of the county where I hunt is steep rugged terrain.  The northwest part is flatter mostly little rolling hills and fields.  The farther west you go from here the bigger and steeper the hills get until eventually they turn into big ass mountains.

Things are dry but there are still nice finds to be had. Bittersweet discovery of a massive fairy ring cluster that isn't gonna make it. Still managed to get some great fruits. Boomer the Great should be posting pics of the fairy ring later .

Yes, the morel was in the wood chips. The chipped area has some low spots that are muddy,  but it's pretty much the same level as the rest of the flood plain.
