I actually agree with Jesus on most of those.  He just saw the matrix a few years before the movie came out. :satansmoking:

Well, from those quotes you could garner that Jesus was an extreme follower of non materialistic ways. Giving away all of your earthly possessions and leaving home is a purposeful way of questing for self discovery and truth seeking. Siddhartha Gautama and Milarepa are two other examples of profound people in history who've said and done similar things: both much less hated on than Jesus.

Btw, just because Jesus said to do those things doesn't mean that you really have to do them. You're not being threatened to give away all of your stuff... "Let the dead bury the dead" is pretty damn harsh, but think about the time period they lived in; there was no guarantee of anything in terms of survival and communication. Once Jesus went on from that person, they may never meet again... he was saying that if the person to whom he spoke wanted to follow Jesus, then there was no going back for anything... not that funeral services are hereby obsolete forever..
anyway just my interpretation.

OP, IMO the fuck Jesus thing is more likely aimed at the current image of him, as promoted in the churches. Moralizing prick, boring as fuck, speaking in a nerd voice, talking about "the meek" via his lavishly dressed emissaries.

:pope:

I don't think we/they are hating on the actual Jesus (if such a hippie even existed IRL) for the simple reason that we don't know him, and in fact we can't know him. Not knowing anything he said or did directly, knowing just highly subjective urban legends and fantasies, we may hate on those, but not the real source which is quite unknown to us, for lack of clear records.

Personally, I have the greatest contempt for all three of the boring religions, and most of the crap involved with them. Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad and all that genital mutilating bunch and the cheap religions they push and cry about, they're equally worthless to me, because they're simply weak. Very little imagination, poorly constructed, cheap ineffective rituals, ridiculous myths and attitudes to life, pushing guilt and self-doubt at every fucking step, zero psychoactive sacraments to do any real work with, mainly restrictions and sexual inhibitions. And have I mentioned the genital mutilations?

The deep contempt I have for them all, as a whole, stems from the fact that they're the exact opposite of the energy and gathering type that I like, namely the psy festivals. A more boring bunch than the mumblers from these guilt books I have never seen, so indeed fuck Jesus. And Muhammad and Moses or whoever the main human in the Torah happens to be. I know for a fact they had a shitty connection to the higher realms, because of the utterly boring shit they came up with, as ways for people to fill time. I've seen the good stuff with the psychedelics and one thing that never happened there, was boredom fear guilt and sexual repression. Since these religions seem to give central place to this crap, IMO they were made by ignorant simpletons or control freaks looking to intimidate and mentally enslave. Glad if they work for anybody, but for me it's just

Btw, just because Jesus said to do those things doesn't mean that you really have to do them.

Uh... WHAT? The head honcho of a belief system on which someone bases their entire life tells them to do something, and turns out it's all optional? Oh yeah? I suppose the commandment not to kill, which is written just as plainly, is also optional, eh?

I love it. Religious buffet. Just pick and chose which of god's orders suit you and ignore the ones you don't like. Fuck, even I could get into that religion.

he was saying that...

Yea, yeah... I know how that works. If you don't like what god orders, say that what he ACTUALLY means is [fill in the blank with an order you do like instead]. Good shit!

I don't think we/they are hating on the actual Jesus (if such a hippie even existed IRL)

See like this is how I view Jesus, maybe not even an actual Jesus but the Jesus I created in my mind.  Who has a personality similar to the Buddha and stuff.  To me, they symbolize that guy at the festival, who sees someone he doesn't know having a bad trip, so he walks up and wraps them in a blanket, passes them the bowl to let them take a few hits, smiles at them and offers to give them a backrub, a cigarette, a benzo, a drink of water, anything simple like that.  After say 20 minutes if he notices their mood has been lifted and their vibes are better, he smiles again and leaves for the next soul to brighten up.  That's just a really random example lol, it has nothing to do with god or religion etc but in my opinion that was what the point was of Jesus in the Bible.  Obviously many people don't see it that way, or many people don't even consider Jesus as a very important part of the Bible at all and they follow God's rules and their favorite story was Noah's ark, which was ripped from Gilgamesh basically.  Religion is indeed way too cloudy and full of shit which is why even a lot of Christians probably wouldn't be able to relate to my Jesus analogy (well most Christians aren't hippies either, but I mean any situation where an example like that could fit).  The way I was raised and what I always got from church was simply put kind of a "what would Jesus do" vibe.  And I was taught that Jesus was absolute compassion and empathy for all people.  We can't deny that even though we may have poor thoughts on religion or Christianity, overall religion dominates in our world what probably like 10 to 1, believers to non-believers?  Those believers basically run the show - wouldn't it be nice if they actually "got the message" similarly in the way that I have, instead of believing whatever suits them?  Which leads to...

... If you don't like what god orders, say that what he ACTUALLY means is [fill in the blank with an order you do like instead]. Good shit!

I'm right there with you on that one man.  And it's truly astonishing just how many people feel like they can break the rules because they don't suit them, but because they agree with others then they have it all just right.  I think it's also sad when people nitpick, for example, Christians being so much against homosexuality that they'll go out and protest against it and try to fight the laws of it.  I think there might be that ONE verse in the whole damn Bible that says "a man shouldn't sleep with another man" or something like that, and when I was in church (I never lived in the Bible belt with white trash rednecks) our pastor never once talked about why homosexuality is wrong or anything.  According to my beliefs Jesus wouldn't care if you were gay or used illegal drugs or had to work on the Sabbath day to help pay the bills, so long as your heart was in the right place.  Sorry not trying to get too personal with my own thoughts.

You guys do realize how powerful and "real" religion feels to most people right?  Sometimes I forget about that.  This is gonna sound dumb but I had a dream a few months ago where I looked into God's eyes.  It was like a level 5 trip.  It was so intense it woke me up, shaking, LITERALLY with a euphoria in my body reminiscent of DMT.  I was high and hadn't taken drugs... after waking when I tried to close my eyes again I would see God staring at me from the back of my eyelids... now obviously I know this was just a very intense and trippy dream, but it was so intense that it actually reminded me of why people take this stuff so seriously.  For people that aren't so critical (most people) these experiences are REAL.  You can fill in the blanks for everything related.

Oh and sorry for the kind of long paragraphs :sorry:

I also should mention as I was reading over what I wrote I noticed that I basically do the same thing with my beliefs stated above that other people seem to do.  As in I've created this image for Jesus and what he represents to me and I've eliminated everything else from religion, and that's what works for me.  I realize that is pretty much exactly what other people do with their beliefs too.  So I don't want to sound like a hypocrite who isn't conscious of this.  Mind you my view of Jesus isn't really a religious one and I'm not trying to sound like a Christian minus most of the Christianity stuff (lol) I'm just trying to explain myself for the purposes of this thread.  It's not like I think of Jesus every time I think of that selfless compassionate person, it's more of an archetype I think in my head than anything specific.

Due to interference, propaganda and numerous interests clouding the issue throughout history, I for one consider this whole archetype compromised. I therefore propose we stop talk of the dubious idea of Jesus, and refocus on the larger, more general archetype of the chill dude, the bearded chill helpful hippie, spreading the good vibes. :jah:

Of course because this is much more approachable and down to Earth, people prone to cult-like behavior won't be able to put this one on pedestals, grovel at feet and beg for mercy and go through their guilt and sin issues, so this may not be to their liking

I'm not a christian, therefore, in the context of the Bible, i do pick and choose what suits me out of the countless passages and phrases.

I was merely indicating that, as a sentient beings, we have the capability to decide things for ourselves. When someone tells you to do something, or to believe something, no matter who they are or what they're supposed to be, you don't have to: there's no threat here, you don't have to hate jesus because you feel threatened into doing or thinking something you don't want to think or do.

Yea, yeah... I know how that works. If you don't like what god orders, say that what he ACTUALLY means

So one of your beefs with this whole Jesus thing is that people follow what he says blindly, and that half the time those beliefs are ill-founded and crude... however, if I begin to interpret the sayings in a way outside of the generally assumed meaning ( in this case, what you assumed them to mean ), then - hold up! - I'm wrong. How ironic: y'know, "fundamentalist christians" like to do the same thing.

Even people who interpret the Bible "literally" are making interpretations to find meaning in the text. We interpret the text because we live in a radically different time period, with a completely different civilization and set of social standards. We have to put these quotes and phrases into the context of our own lives to make any sense out of it whatsoever.. remember, these quotes are circa 2,000 years out of context... the first meaning you think of does not have to be the only and right one. Try reading them with a more open mind, and try to understand them instead of undermining them.

There are some Bible studiers ( a worldwide acclaimed writer and Yogi, for one ) who believe that to really, reeeaaally know what Jesus meant, you have to enter an ecstatic state of altered consciousness and speak directly with an emanation of Jesus. How's that for outside of what you thought the Bible was about?

I think people get confused about the bible, who Jesus was, and Organized religions, and different variations of bible thumpers and religious zealots. They are not all the same, but they all get lumped together.

The bible is a wild book, filled with all sorts of murder, mayhem, and madness. It's been around for a ridiculously long time and has been used in very negative ways. But what's important, I think is when we get to the new testament. Now see, to God, we are all sinners. In the old testament, paying for your sins required a blood sacrifice. Well, to change this he sends his son to be the ultimate blood sacrifice. (brutal)

John 3:16"16For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

So most people know Jesus was born and began his ministry at the age of 33. Now what most people don't realize is that Jesus was had very different views on how to live your life. In those days the pharisees had a lot of power and Jesus came in and started talking about E.L.E. Everybody Love Everybody.
John 15:12-14, 17 "This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command. 17This is my command: Love each other."

Well, no one in power wants everybody to love everybody, because no one makes money the power structure becomes weakened when people start changing their belief systems because some guy starts telling stories that make sense. Makes me think of why a lot of people feel that psychedelic's are illegal.

He starts talking about settling differences and not being angry with people who have wronged you. Forgiveness. He talks about, loving your enemies, rather than hating them and holding grudges. He starts telling people to give up their possessions and not to worry about money, that God provides for everything on this planet, including people. He talks about righteousness and morality. And through his teachings and healing's, he started pissing people off and was eventually put to death.

Now, if you listen to what Jesus says, he sounds look a pretty stand up guy. As a matter of fact, as I grow older and look for role models in my life, I find that this guy makes a great one.

The problem, is when people use the bible and it's teachings without applying the principles and teachings of Jesus. People twist the versus's of the bible left and right to make it fit their purpose. In reality, if we adhere to what Jesus tells us, we find that the bibles not so crazy after all.

Love one another, give up your worldly attachments, if you see someone that is hungry, feed them. If you see someone without clothes, clothe them, if someone is without shelter, give them shelter, if they are sick, take care of them. Love one another as your brother. Now that is the church of Jesus Christ.

If you find that a particular religious organization, affiliation, or fanatic, is preaching anything, but love one another, to forgive each other as God forgives us, not to judge each other or to hold grudges, to share our wealth and our gifts/abilities for the benefit of others, then, I believe it would be safe to say that they have strayed far from the actual message of the bible. The final message is peace and if the message you are hearing is anything, but peace, then it has been misinterpreted.

The Bible has been translated many times and rewritten just as many to the liking of religious and political figures. For anyone to take the Bible seriously in this day and age is laughable. The lesions in the Bible could easily be learned through five years of spending time with intelligent, respectable people.
