It's not that wild if you've studied into it.

I personally see the obvious direct connection...

Again, it doesn't manifest itself merely as a physical symptom. It is a constant throughout life.

"Death anxiety" is just a blanket term used to describe the psychological aspects of dealing with one's mortality.

What is the difference?

Atheists have faith in the idea that god doesn't exist, Christians (and followers of other theistic regions) have faith in the idea that God does exist. If either one could objectively prove their case, there would not be a conflict.

Anxiety is very hard to miss.

Your point sure as hell isn't.

What, that I have felt anxiety before? If you conclude anything else from what I said, it would be obvious that you're grasping at straws. (You might want to read the post you were responding to about death anxiety)

Not everyone has death anxiety, I sure as hell don't. Anyone who would suggest that we all must have death anxiety are only trying to feel better about what they're going through. I'm sure it is a common problem but you can be assured that not everyone is afraid of death and you don't have to be either.

How can we grow and change if we do not believe there is room to grow and change? If someone believes that everyone has death anxiety then they must also believe that they will never stop fearing death themselves. Maybe that explains all the close minded attacks?

If this descriptive term should not be understood literally I would suggest finding another way to describe what you mean to say.

Using a blanket term from a book or classroom that few people like to use is one thing but using a term that should not be understood literally is very disturbing.

If someone would like to use a term that should not be understood literally, it would be a good idea to make sure that this term is defined early in the debate so that people who don't care to read up on some type of philosophy can better understand what it is you're getting at.

I didn't conclude shit--which is why I said your point sure as hell isn't hard to miss; this means it's easy to miss your point, which I did.

Nah, Denial of Death is actually a complete comprehensive synthesis of what Freud and his colleagues (and other noteworthy individuals) thought about death--it also includes a post-Freudian perspective on the issue.

What are your motivations for being here on the Shroomery? Immortalization much? :strokebeard:

Everyone has a different method of dealing with death anxiety, and everyone experiences it to varied degrees; death anxiety does not prevent us from growing, and on the contrary, it actually motivates us to do so.

It is to be understood literally--the individual aspects of it all fall under this category, too, though.

Furthermore, most people in this forum seem to be familiar with the term.

So, just to make a synthesis of your statements regarding death anxiety:
- it is not necessarily anxiety, even though it is called anxiety
- some people DO feel anxiety about death however, while others don't even though they're still aware of the fact that they're going to die
- some people become schizophrenics because of it, while other people find it a motivator to grow and learn and even feel good

What you're saying exactly is that people in general seem to be aware that they're going to die one day, and have different thoughts and feelings about this. Wow, that's just awesome, you became aware that people know they're not immortal. How is this "death anxiety", again?

And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

Perhaps "avoidance/aversion of death anxiety", or "humans' psychological relation to death" would be a better blanket term.

I'm here to discuss the meaning of life with people who share an interest in the psychedelic experience. Online debate forums are a great way to refine our communication skills and better understand ourselves. It really is unfortunate that there are so many people on here that think you have to go to school or read some books before you can understand reality or the meaning of life.

The idea that everyone has death anxiety is bullshit and no more than a way for people who are unable to escape their fear of death to feel better about themselves.

It is definitely possible to be free of fear and live in the moment. What it takes an honest, loving personality which unfortunately is a rare commodity nowadays.

OK, it's all figured out.  This is what I'm going to do.  I'm going to make up some term, write a book based on it, then use it in my arguments here.  It'll have the word anxiety in it, but it won't really have much to do with actual anxiety at all.  When nobody understands wtf I'm talking about, I'll tell them to read the book, for it's the only way they could possibly understand.

Sound fair?
