Just a heads up 2 you & MushroomWilly... The TERRIBLE 2'S are NOTHING compared 2 the TESTING 3's.  Nobody every warns parents about them.  Best of luck.

My 5 and 7 year olds were the ines that found an ovoid patch last year. It's a long story basically they are constantly pointing out mushrooms (brackets mostly , like your two year old) and so I started teaching them identifiers. Like where is it growing, what color , what size and does it have gills or pores. So one day they were playing while I was picking ovoids in my spot and from accross the field they scream, "Dad! We found mushrooms!" Unfazed I asked, ground or tree? They said ground!!! I asked, gills or pores.  They said gills!!! What color? BROWN!!! I jumped up and ran across the field to another wooded patch and boom. Ovoids. Picked over 1oz dried weight from that spot. I told them it was a special mushroom for medicine. They were satisfied with that answer and went back to playing.

Short story...  I was on the phone 1 night & get'n my daughter out of the bath, well I guess I wasn't giving her my direct attention so she reached up & yanked my hair. 

I said "Young lady, you do that again & i'll smack your ass!"  She gave me a smirk & did it again, yanking hair out this time = I smacked her on her ass.

She then looked at her butt, looked back at me, eyed me up & down & said "That didn't hurt!"  I stood up, started counting to 10 to calm myself down.  Meanwhile, my brother-n-law (in jail at the time) dropped the phone & was laughing hysterically.

That is basically how I picture things when my kids are those same ashes lol!  My son was excited as shit to help make an outdoor wine cap bed with me,  but he won't stop asking about hiking.

Whatever happened to rinsing with ascorbic? I tried it once and it does prevent bluing, I don't know if it's worth doing though.

way to go everyone.  awesome seeing fresh pics again. 

i checked out a couple of my spots last weekend but nothing was popping yet.  looks like i was about three days too soon.  i'm gonna keep limping out to those spots until i can't anymore.

I did a little experiment. If you put ascorbic acid in blue shroom water, the water turns orange. I don't think it prevents oxidation as much as it just reacts with the oxidation product and changes its color.

If you put a blue shroom in a solution of ascorbic acid, the blue vanishes.

I've been searching around a 2-6' wide creek, no luck yet.
How near the water should I focus searching?
What size rivers and creeks are you most successful locating em?

Sounds about right.

You want to look at the flood plain that spreads out from the tops of the banks as well as the sand bars down closer to the water on the inside turns of the creek.
