Great find man!
I'm determined to find them this year but if I can't I may have to settle with cultivating outdoor beds and hopefully encourage them to grow throughout my woods.

Nice from the looks of the vegetation you're a few days ahead of me here in bmore. I guess the snow from the last storm set us back.  Gonna head out tomorrow and check on things but not much of anything is growing at the moment.

We're getting a nice soaking r-word and 70s for the next few day. Things should be gangbusters soon.

Yeah, we're still about a week from the start of things.  It'll be soon though.  Was up on the northern section of bmore checking on some cultures and looking for stuff upstream.  Great habitat and if not already home to ovoids, it will be.

Done waiting for spring to get here.  Hopefully have something to post in a couple days.

Hello there fellow Ovoid hunters. I have such a warm fuzzy feeling about this thread. I have only been in the ovoid game for three years now and really felt alone in this. Not a lot of people around here know what the hell I'm talking about. I have only ever tripped on ovoids and they are the only active i have ever found.  Anyway, Im stoked to now be apart of the bigger conversation and contribute what i can.
That being said here are my observations in central VA just south of Charlottesville along a creek feeding the James River.
Yesterday a buddy of mine picked about a dozen that were in an area that gets direct flooding from the James. All other spots have not produced anything and seem too dry. We are getting some scattered thunderstorms right now and i will be checking everyday after work. Thanks for all your hard work and generosity of information.  As i said before, i am completely stoked right now to finally have found this thread.  Happy hunting.

Welcome to the shroomery.  Good luck out there. I was thinking earlier about how this is the biggest gathering of ovoid pros in the game.

Koods, the only problem I have doing that = time.  I work 3 jobs & like today I wrk'd this morning 7-1 & go in at my 2nd job 2-8.  Finding time 2 scout new areas is limited if not impossible BUT that's Ovoid hunting 101.  If all goes well, that # of jobs will soon be just 2  giving me the available time 4 hunting.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I swear I think they fruit earlier where ever koods is at.  Idk if its the elevation here or a slightly different phenotype.  I was able to get out today and cover a lot of ground.  Only thing up here is psathyrella and may apples.  My first finds from last year were on April 12.

You're north of me.  I'm right up in the northeast corner of Kentucky.  Right where ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky meet up on the KY side 10 miles from the Ohio river.  Idk why they take a little longer here.  If they were up here I would have found at least one today.  Showing 32 Thursday night and 29 Friday night. That will set them back most likely.

In my experience those debris dams don't produce as much as the banks, where debris gets partially buried under sand.

Nice, I'm in Huntington. I think we might have had this same conversation last year now that I think about it.

Check the second photo for bruising. Looks like pholiotina from that angle.

Nice pics!

Like I said, was done waiting for spring .. so we went south to start off the season.  Been eyeing up VA for the past couple weeks and decided to venture down near the James to check a couple spots that I've been looking at since last year.  The first spot we only found 1, but second spot allowed us to observe around 300!  Definitely scratched the itch I've had for a month now.  These are just a couple of what we came across today. The first pic is of the 1 found from spot 1 and the rest are from the other spot.

Went out this morning to my regular spot and found nothing.  Decided to check a completely new spot I've been scouting while hunting deer this season and boom. Found a new patch.  Still nothing from my main spot. May be resting this year. Also found one single morel. Funny thing about that morel is that i took the photo and didn't realize that the ovoid patch was actually in the background of the photo. LOL.
;Edit;
Hey TexturedSounds, Im hunting all over the James as well. What area are you close to?

Those look meaty!! Glad someone found a morel today, because we sure didn't.

I'm actually in MD.  We went down for a couple days but didn't stay tonight and just came back.  The area we checked out was almost an hr west of Richmond.
