The "Fuck Jesus" Mentality * 1
    #20572177 -

OK now obviously some jokes can be made about this thread starting from the title (lol) feel free to joke around soon enough but a few comments on the seriousness of this post would be nice.

I've noticed that in many places, such as the Shroomery (the idea for this post came from a random post I saw in the Pub) or in school, other open minded places, etc etc, you'll find lots of people who question religion, with the prominent one in the USA and on these boards being Christianity.  I know lots of people resent religion, particularly when they were brought up in a religious home and then that feeling they get when they find out that to them it appears to be a bunch of BS.  So I notice many of these people, even really nice people, when a topic like religion comes up, they'll joke and say things like "fuck Jesus" and other remarks of that nature, showing their "hatred" towards religion and Jesus is the "man to hate."

I see where these people are coming from, but I guess what I don't get is.. why hate on Jesus?  I can understand the resentment against religion, any religion, and I could understand the anger towards God, for according to the story he (it IMO) is the one that created this mess.  But what did Jesus ever do to anyone?  I was brought up in a Christian home/family, I went to church for many years, and when it came to Jesus himself, I thought he was a really great example of how humans should treat one another.  He was a very compassionate man/character, and went out of his way to help other people.  He was very selfless and I always thought from the depictions in the Bible he seemed like one stand up guy.  Since I was maybe 16 and started questioning religion, until this day, I still don't buy into any real religion, but I think when it comes down to it you could say "Jesus is in my heart."  As in I try to be a good person in the same way that Jesus tried to be a good person.  I think there are MANY Christians, as well as people of other religions, who sadly miss this point entirely!  Whether hardcore Christians, or atheists, many people on both sides I think read into the wrong stuff.  To me, the Gospel was the only part of the Bible that really mattered.  If Jesus was a real person, even if he wasn't supernatural and just a good man, he doesn't deserve this hate, and if he didn't exist, saying fuck Jesus is still like saying fuck Superman or Batman, or Luke Skywalker, lol.  Who hates the good guys!?!?

Anyone have some thoughts to add before this thread gets derailed with gay Jesus jokes or anything else like that?  I'd be interested to see who else doesn't hate on Jesus yet still may have strong feelings against religions in general.

He promotes torture and suffering for those who wont blindly follow him and his psycho dictator dad.  He encourages believers to place him and his dad above even their own families.  His followers are among the worst people in history and in existence today.  So yea, fuck Jesus.

Doesn't really matter?  Assuming he was even real, he's just some random crazy dude who has been dead for thousands of years.

Saying "fuck jesus" is just to mock those who blindly believe silly stories.

1 question... have you ever actually read the Bible? Bcuz if you have, then there'd be no need to make such a ridiculous and historically inaccurate statement.

The Christian church wasn't founded until a century and a half after Jesus died.
The original practitioners of the teachings passed on from Jesus by the Apostles
were known as Gnostics, from the latin word gnosis, meaning "to know", and they promoted introspection,
holding a feeling of knowing and connection to the divine within oneself,
interpretation of holy texts and improvisation,
with a constantly changing lineup for those who would give sermons,
meaning there was no hierarchy within their organization.

The gnostics had access to The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, ( which is not in the King James Bible ) in which she gives the account
of when Jesus appeared to her after they put him in his tomb.
The translation is paraphrased as follows in a theatrical format:

Mary: "How are you appearing to me, in Spirit?"
Jesus: "No, I am appearing to you within your mind."

^ pretty epic and far out stuff, if you actually read it.

The bishops of the early Christian church got wind of the gnostics and started freaking out and terrorizing / torturing / oppressing them because they didn't believe you should interpret the bible, rather believe if blindly.

So, all of this oppression and death of which you speak wasn't really the responsibility of Jesus. It's like if a bunch of star wars fans started killing everyone who didn't think the same way as them about Luke Skywalker. Would that be Luke's fault? No. Would it be George Lucas's fault for directing the movie? No! It would be the responsibility of the people who actually cause the violence. In this way, OP is right, hating on Jesus is like choosing any sincere religious figure from history and saying "fuck them". It's just cruel and spreading bad vibes, which are things this world doesn't need anymore of.

That's cute, but a total mischaracterization as most "random crazy dudes" aren't constantly on the minds of billions of people.

I really struggled with my feelings about organized religion, this guy Jesus, and religious fanatics. You see, all the things I read about Jesus lead me to agree with the OP,  Jesus was a stand up guy.

If you see someone that is hungry,  feed them, if they have no clothes, clothe them, and if they need shelter, give them shelter. Now that is the church of Jesus Christ! Love God and your love of God will make you want to be a better person. It's crazy talk! I know, but I have met these people who use the bible and Jesus Christ as their guide and they are stand up people.

In every religion there are zealots who give that religion a bad name. Christians have a bad rap, but so do Muslims. I guess you gotta find what works for you. It took me a while, but the bible and Jesus Christ make a lot of sense to me. They don't ask much of me and they give me a great guide on how to live my life. So, why not right?

The funny thing about the word God is that it means something different to each and every person that has ever believed in one.  Even those who follow the same religion.  No two people have the same perception of what "God" is.

My guess is that when you tell a story, it's good for awhile... I'm sure the Jesus story was cutting edge shit 2,000 years ago, like the equivalent of Guardians of the Galaxy is now.. but after the industry has milked the Jesus brand franchise for 2,000 years, some people are gonna start to get pissy.... Hence - Fuck Jesus... it's a valid point imho.

Just so you know jesus may have not even existed... The gospels were all written generations after his death and vary greatly. No evidence showed he actally existed and his story is VERY VERY similar to many other people such as horus from egypt.

But I havent really heard of many people that say fuck jesus, more like fuck the pope or Christianity.
