Changes in the bible
    #2039741 - 10/24/03 03:56 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Can anyone give me some links that show evidence that the bible has been changed throughout time?

I've always suspected(and have always heard) that people have changed the words in the bible to in order to control the behavior of the masses.

Learyfan,

You can read

You can hear

You can wonder

or . . .

...you can experience.

The Bible becomes secondary to an otherwise obvious relationship between humanity and God.

If all we ever do is read about God and never experience Him, we are in great error.

The church changed and edited the Bible many times throughout their history to suit their needs and put them as the 'middle man' between man and god. I'll try and dig up some links for you.

in class a few weeks ago my history teach mentioned that the oldest forms of the bible found to date have been in greek whereas jesus supposedly spoke aramaic. therefore even when it was first written the bible was most likely misinterpreted. in addition, when the church has 'changed the bible' the bible wasnt physically changed. there was no need to change it since no one who would have been affected by these changes could read the bible anyway.

I think (I'm probably off here) the arguement is that certain things had different meanings during the time period of the old testament so the wording and diction can't be 100% undertsood as it was originally supposed to. Also, after the latin translation of the new and old testaments, the actual meaning was distorted through the translations, and updating to come.

Then peopel tried to use the bible to explain or justify all their actions throughout time since its meanings are not clear cut and can be manipulated to justify a social standard. For example slavery was often justified with passages from the bible, but only because people ascribed meaning to passages to justify their actions.

I think that one of the biggest changes through mistranslation known in the bible, is that when it was initially translated to greek, they translated 'young girl' to 'virgin', as in 'virgin Mary'.

Been told that almost all theologists agree about that this is a real mistranslation.

I think the biggest changes are that Jesus taught meditation, not praying. Meditation is the opposite of praying... praying you are seeking outside yourself..an external source for help. Meditation is going within to find the answers from the God within. Jesus taught that we could all be like him.. meaning we are all Gods, we just have to awaken to that and unlock it. Unfortunately this was twisted into obscurity.

The other thing Jesus taught that was taken out of the bible was reincarnation. How could the Church benefit if people thought they could solve their own problems without a middle man (the church).

The church, also, changed all of its holidays so they would coincide with the pagan solstice holidays.

It was all people control... and fund raising.

I think the biggest change is when it went from a WORK OF FICTION BASED LOOSELY off of reality into some type of real historical manuscript

Yeah, that page has nothing to do with what we're talking about in this thread funguy... care to point us to the right page?

Otherwise, it just looks like you're calling non-christians morons. I appreciate you trying to convert us but, it was in a misleading way. Get many converts with that trick funguy?

I found nothing disproving changes in the bible at your sight and I don't have the patience to keep looking.

Ask your pastor, priest, or bishop what he/she knows about the history of the Bible.

Most clergy learn in school about the many facelifts the Bible has recieved.

I found the page... from Funguy's sig.

http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/bibleorg.html

This excerpt is from the summary.

"How could there be such accuracy over 1,400 years of copying? Two reasons: The scribes that did the copying had meticulous methods for checking their copies for errors. 2) The Holy Spirit made sure we would have an accurate copy of God's word so we would not be deceived. The Mormons, liberals as well as other cults and false religions such as Islam that claim the Bible has been tampered with are completely proven false by the extensive, historical manuscript evidence."

Wow, such an open minded article. I'm reminded of my days in Lutheran school... and why I left.

:shake:
Funguy, Funguy, Funguy,
:nonono:

Remember when you said in another thread, "We must show the outside world that not every Christian is a pompous, self-righteous hypocritical person. In fact, most TRUE Christians aren't like that."?

Please don't misdirect Non Christians to your signiture like you did with your last post. I'm trying not to get upset but that did offend me. I'm just letting you know; actions like that, in a forum that forbids flaming are very inconsiderate. Be sensitive to the nature of non christians if you expect them to be sensitive to you. There ARE some good Samaritans out there.

Funguy, use your powers for good, and people will listen to you.

When Jesus said "Be fishers of men," he didn't mean bait and switch.

Just 'cause we are out there to convert, doesn't mean we want to be converted. Some of us have good reason to stay away from christianity. Some of us chose to be non christians.

If you want to discuss this further, PM me. Although, I hijacked it, this isn't a thread about your link.

Sorry I went on a rant.

Hi guys

Christianity does NOT represent Jesus Christ, and they do NOT follow his teaches.

The true disciples of Jesus Christ were called Essenes, and thats where christianity evolved from.

Jesus christ preached STRONGLY in Fasting, Meditation, Prayer, Vegetarianism, Raw food diet, Cleansing of the body/mind, colon cleansing, and not killing or mistreating humans OR animals

Hey everyone...

This is my first time on this board, but I had a few thoughts.  At NYU, we recently had a speaker who is an "expert" on the Bible.  He has made studying it, and it's origins, his life's work.  I think one of the most important facts of the Bible is not how it has changed, but how it was formed.  The individual books of the Bible were never meant to be combined.  Each book of the Bible was written individually.  When the overall "BIBLE" was being formed, there were fights and arguments between different groups who wanted different books included...

Hold on, let me dig up my lecture notes.

Okay.  Our speaker was William Arnal.  Perhaps you can find more info on him on google?  Anyway, he talked about how MANY books were excluded that "almost" made it.  Some books that didn't make the final cut (in the new testament) include: Shepard of Hermus, The Gnostic Gospels (Phillip and Thomas), the Infacy Gospels (Thomas, James), and the Acts of Peter, Paul, and Andrew.

Furthermore, almost ALL scholars agree that the books of Mark, Matt, and Luke were not written by Mark, Matt, and Luke.  The original gospels were anonymous.  The gospel of Mark was the earliest, crudest gospel, and it is theorized that both Matt and Luke were written by essentially copying Mark and some other writing, known as "Q."  Mysterious sounding, I know

Anyway, these reasons, in addition to many others, are why I doubt the validity of The Bible, both religiously and historically.

Hope I could be of a little help!

Awesome...

It's all so mysterious and mathematical. It kind of makes me doubt the whole "historical accuracy" thing...

I've always wondered, if I got a group of like twenty friends, and got them to all write about how one of us was/is "GOD," and we preserved the journals, would we be considered apostles in 500 years?
