That was uh ... not really an answer. At all.

I asked you for details about the experiences which you have had (and presumably, others have not) and in response you said "I have had some experiences." Please try again?
I would like you to describe what it is about your experience which has made a believer out of an atheist.

Not trying to be cliche, but high dose psychedelic experiences.  High dose LSD, DMT, Mushrooms to be specific.

So a brain that is not performing optimally, from a biological perspective, is closer to God? :cuckoo:

A brain isn't preforming "optimally" when tripping? Poid, do you even know what the term optimum stands for?

In terms of survival, hallucinations are useless.

I suppose optimum was the wrong term...

may not be long-term optimal, for that reason, but they could possibly show short-term benefit through increased mental processing etc

I really do not think that "optimal" brain function exists. That would suggest that brain function is trying to accomplish something specific.

In which case, as long as I'm not dead, I must be functioning optimally.

Survival is a state of being, as well as a state of doing.

Two questions: 1) Who said that life is only a matter of survival? 2) How do you know what the "terms of survival" are at any given point or instance, since these aren't preset in any way?

No.  Just no no no not at all what im saying.  Tripping is by no means optimal brain function.  Its just different.  Tripping has the potential to exacerbate mystical experiences.  Those mystical experiences have led me to believe in a higher order of consciousness.  If i went into the details you would just think im a crazy acid head:shrug:

I don't, and I don't see how this is too relevant to my point.

And there is no chance it was a drug induced fantasy that has nothing to do with an external reality?

Ive had alot of psychedelic experiences that are beyond description, and they were just that - experiences.  Drugs do crazy and wonderful things.

Maybe for you, but this doesn't mean that survival is universally mainly important.

How isn't it relevant? You're practically basing your entire argument or these terms of survival, but you don't know them. D'oh!

Isn't it a living organism's modus operandi to continue surviving?

I'm not sure what to make of the term "terms of survival" since I didn't even introduce it to this thread...
