"It's almost amazing that there could be a thread with three pages regarding such a moot depate. I would have hoped we would be past this kind of discussion. "

everyone goes at their own pace.  this kind of question is a great reminder in that we really don't know, whether we say god exists or god doesn't.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I believe in God because I have directly experienced God. God is pure love...plain and simple. God is the love I have for my children. God is the pure love that everyone loves with. I know this right now more than I know anything else.

But of course my experience doesn't do YOU anygood. How could I possibly prove to you what I experienced? That would be like trying to prove that the smell of banana is banana to someone who has never even smelled one before.

You just have to experience it for yourself and until then all you can do is have faith and believe.

the PUREST form of GOD is nothing.
but god is everything.

for nothing created everything.
theres comssion for all things (highest state of + energy) and compassion for destroy all (highest state of - energy)
nothingness directly inbetween pervading both. ... it is the cause

yes, love is the greatest in life, but it is manifest.

and it has a good and bad side like all things manifest.

i can keep blabbing about how god is nothing, but the only way to realise  this is through youself, whether your scared of nothing at all being the godly figure, up to you, whether you wanna think what i said is absoloute crap, up to you.

All the above is my oppinion. It may benefit you,
if it doesnt benefit you, remember its my oppinion, and only your oppinion matters to you for that is your reality.

i edited because it sounded damn crazy b4  :smirk:

I have seen and covered in detail the dangers of believing and not the inverse.

The most virulent personal attacks against me on this forum against me have come from "loving, spiritual, believers". (No, you are not in that group although there has been an occasional slip...)

You're right...I have slipped. In first grade I was a devil for Halloween. My Dad cut out and painted a really nice wooden pitchfork of three prongs (this was before all the plastic one's at Walgreen's). After Halloween was over, I chased Renelle Winstead from next door with the pitchfork - she was one of Reverand Winstead's daughters! Broke the center prong on her round adolescent bottom! What a delight! I wonder if there was a cosmic connection between this event and sending for an application to LeVey's Church of Satan in my freshman year of college?

Belief or unbelief - evil operates in both. Somewhere in the Bible it says 'the devils believe, and tremble.' Belief is clearly not enough to translate into compassionate regard for others, 'cause if you don't believe what 'I' believe, it causes me some doubt, which makes me nervous, which I don't like, so it makes me mad, and then I want to make You feel bad so I call you names and try to scare you with Hell, and if That doesn't work I'll get my fellow-believers an' we'll lay a powerful hurtin' on you, 'cause You're Bad and we're not, 'cause WE believe in gentle Jesus and YOU don't, so we're gonna pour molten lead down your throat or burn you alive to teach you a lesson about what happens to people who don't believe in gentle Jesus, 'cause we wanna bring about Heaven-on-Earth and, and.............Oh. Hmmm. My Bad.

Humor aside (thanks for the giggle), I have yet to hear of a mass suicide of atheists/agnostics. Perhaps you can dig into your historical well and punch a hole in my unspoken premise.

love is all there is my friends, and its all we got, truly. I think the whole God is nothing thing is bullshit(how it is just blatantly said like that with no attempted explaination for what you mean by it, i have no other choice but to take it literally). it is a perception, but if you are not mindful in what you are saying someone can take it the wrong way, and it can be harmful. just look at the bible, it speaks metaphorically, yet people take it literally, and look how fucked up the followers are, totally lost, and it has caused too many to say fuck god then if this is the way it is. what if someone took god is nothing literally, and think there is no god at all and life is pointless? dan says god is "life energy", well what you call "life energy", i call love, it is the same thing, different word used to describe it. Words are inadequate when it comes to talking about the ineffable, it just has to be experienced to truly understand. hahah so who cares if you sounded crazy? anybody tryin to explain the unexplainable is going to sound a bit out there to someone who dont know what they are talking about, yet.

Well, aside from the American Atheist show which appeared in the early years of cable TV with founder Madalyn Murray O'Hare, and two flanking males (one with a 'Hitler' moustache), sitting above their logo (two 'A's' inside a representation of an Atom), I can't think of a group of people who get together to proclaim the obviousness of sense perception. Furthermore, without blind faith in a psycho-leader, or profound dissapointment of some failed prophesy, there seems little to push the purely sensate beings into suicide. Of course, there is the one obvious perspective of: 'Is that all there is?' - like that Peggy Lee song - to which she lyrically added: 'Then let's keep dancing - Let's break out the booze and have a ball.' In other words, to the perspective of 'No Meaning/No God/No Purpose' one can either 'Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we shall die,' OR simply cut to the chase (as people I've known) and suicide to avoid old age, sickness and death.

One might argue that the 'ego-death' prescribed by Buddhism to deal with these three attachments amounts to a form of 'psychological suicide,' and being non-theistic (vs. atheistic) runs parallel to 'physical death' and 'physical suicide' that a true atheistic might embrace. In that argument, monastic Buddhist existence would be large groups of Theravadins in Southeast asia all attempting psychological 'extinction' i.e., 'nirvana.' Taken further, there were Theravadins like the famous one immortalized in Life Magazine who self-immolated in lotus posture in the street to protest the war in Vietnam. Hmmm. Perhaps not en masse, but taken together one might argue for non-theistic or atheists who suicide as a group. But...perhaps I'm just reaching. Death in Buddhism does not amount to the simple non-existence assumed by atheists, even if the remaining existence is not 'my' existence.

Parenthetically, I believe Madalyn Murray O'Hare was murdered by her own son, dismembered, burned, and buried. Seems a fit Old Testament type ending to a false prophet. I mean, this was the individual who almost single-handedly had Bible reading removed from the public schools in America (I remember each day a different kid getting up in front of the class to read a Psalm after the Pledge of Allegiance, til sometime in the 2nd grade). Now assume a Bible-believing American's perspective for a moment to see my point (HA! This is like Superman getting the inter-dimentional imp Myxpikylik to say his name backwards!). Boom! Five years later the Church of Satan appeared. Ten years later the occult revival swept the nation, and look at the assasinations and mayhem between '61 and '71! The country is going to Hell in a bucket. Citizens are awash in flaming jet fuel, swept into an abyss! 12/2012 approaches - the end may be near! I'm kidding. I'm not kidding. This is humor. This is deadly serious. How much Thorazine should I take at this point?

I know that God exists because I met him.

Alone one night in my apartment I ate 1/4 once of good weed, drank a couple of beers, and ate some crushed up Zyban pills( Don't remember how many 3-5 maybe). I don't feel like giving the entire trip report now, so I will skip to the end. I was experiencing intense halucinations and felt extreamly tired. I layed down in bed on my back and was wacthing all the crazy visuals when I noticed a little black dot. I was facinated by it because it had a quality which seemed so much more "real" than everything else I was seeing. As i continued to stare at the dot I noticed that it was becoming bigger and moving around a little bit. suddenly I realized that the reason why the dot was getting bigger was because I was moving toward it at an incredible rate of speed. Fear! As the dot filled about half of my field of vision I noticed that it was surounded by a purple and yellow corona, and that it was spinning. as i fell into the whole, it made a sound like Whoop, Whoop; one whoop for each revolution. I was moveing faster than the speed of light through a twisty winding tunnel, just like you see it in the movies. When i saw the light approaching at the end, I realized that this was death and that I had done this to myself by overdosing. being raised catholic I knew that this was a mortal sin. As i entered the light, I said to God "don't send me to hell." He responded in the most kind, gentle, powerful, and almost humorous voice ive ever heard, with a single word. "BREATH" At this point I began moving backward, out of the light, through the tunnle, out through the whole, Whoop Whoop again, through all the colorful hulcinations, and at last became aware of myself sitting up in bed. I was not breathing, but God's command to me was resonating in my consciousness. After what seemed like an eternity I finally took the first breath. For the next several hour every breath was a conscious effort, and I fell back into the whole a few times but always managed to back out before seeing the light again. Of course I don't expect everybody to believe me but I guarentee that noone will ever be able to convince me that God does not exist, or that he doesn't care about us.

Love and prayers,
Dan

I believe you. I Know That Singularity ["dot"]. I Know the Infinite Field of Yellow Light. I Know that the Singularity can also be Experienced as Three and simultaneously as ONE, while paradoxically involving the Experiencer as a Fourth. Make sense? No, me neither, but the Fullness of my Experience was the Most Holy of my life and won't elaborate here. THIS Experience should be communicated ONLY personally IMHO, because if your Experience was on the same plane as my own, it will remain the MOST personal Experience of your entire life. Shhhhhhh!

P.S. - My Experience occurred exactly 31 years to the day that you registered at the Shroomery: Independence Day 1973.

There is only one God, and his nature is to be three. Look for the fundamental trinities all around you; they are his reflection.

God is as real as one believes him to be......
Its a personal thing, and its up to the person to how real they want to make it...

I sort of think that "God" is one of those things that you can see in a MRI. I think this because I beleive that God is an emotion, and something completely human in nature.
