I believe in God because the universe shows signs of intelligent design. You can look at even a paper clip and see intelligent design without any proof of it having a creator.

(not necessarily to Markos)

Here is the part that may never be answered: is it the mere belief in God that gives people strength (who may not even exist - a one way arrow) or the belief in a God who does exist and responds (two way arrow)?

Rephrased, is it the mindset that gives strength (purely psychological) or actual spiritual assistance?

amazing question, Swamster - I'm not religious so naturally my answer would be the mindset..

I'm interested to see what the believers have to say though this is very interesting

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

I think quite possibly my 'faith' is one way... but if it works, why question it?! oh wait wait, question everything right? well I do question... but then I think the arrows is 2 way because of the signs I see ....... what i DO know is this:
'actual spiritual assistance' as you say it does not have to be 'god' intervining, WE have the power to create and manifest spiritual experiences into our own reality... and since there is no way to proove the 'other side' the 'logical' answer would be ... well you know...

What or who created the creator???

The evolutionary process we appear to have gone through suggests randomness and trial and error were is the intelligent design?

Hell, he could of gave me wheels instead of legs!!! Dam it!

Belief is a powerful tool.

how about this....there never was any creation as far as the 'spiritual' goes, and there always was and always will be.  time doesnt exsist.  and life is an illusion.  no i dont mean it is not real, i mean your perception of it is not real, only love is real. love is all there is, hence... God=love :heart:  so yes, even you are god.
guess you will find out when you die, everybody dies, so everybody will find out eventually huh? yay. :cool:

Throughout history mankind has had hundreds of different description's of God's. There is no god, only life energy.

To believe in God is simply a facility for your personal contentness. Belief can allow you to do much more than non-belief and that has been proven. Hypnotism works through belief.

I think if you do believe then you cannot accept that there might be nobody in control of our world and that is fearful for you. The fact is you could die / be tortured at any moment and God is simply a belief that protects you from these thoughts. Allows you to know that you will be omni-potent.

Ignorance = God

Are these ideas exclusive? I dont think so.... Just because one believes in God dosent mean he believes in the god of Abraham, or any "personified" God for that matter....

It's almost amazing that there could be a thread with three pages regarding such a moot depate. I would have hoped we would be past this kind of discussion. There is no answer to the the question "God?". There are personal beliefs, which are nothing more than that, BELIEFS. Take a step back and realize that whatever your belief is, that has been molded to answer you own specific questions and nurture you own insecurities. At this point in evolution/time there is no reason for this debate and it is just kepping us from asking important questions.

What about the opposite situation or to not believe in God ?
I believe both answers exist for your "personal contentness". Why not make the question "Does it matter if God exists ?" rather than "Does he exists ?"
I believe there's something else, maybe a superior and intelligent order but as i don't know what it is, i can't depend my life, my behavior and my choices on it but sure there is a subconscious mind that assimilates all this thoughts, the rest depends on my nature and personality. On this matter i admit it has an influence but i am free to choose consciously anyway, that's when questions like "Does it matter", mean giving relative importance to subjective issues become crucial in the way i see this reality.

Answer this question:
"Who created the notion of God ?"

In an 'objective' view, the chances that 'god' exists, shown by proofs are exactly 50 percent. I often wonder about this.

For me, as an subjective beeing, it looks different.

Ignorance = God

Ignorance = Duality. While you may place road-blocks on your imagination and thus limit God to a 'belief', others have become aware of God through themselves. I would say someone who attempts to control his own reality is the one who's afraid of the great unknown. 'Things' don't exist in oneness of God - the Holy, the Shy. Egocentric positions like "Ignorance=God" bounce off the material walls of infinitude, unable to relate to the Divine Essence, and thus unable to enter it. Ya gotta be humble to become water forever. Peace.  :heart:
