Hey guys, I got some spore prints from my last find on a paper towel, am i able to blend them up and mix them with water to create a spore syringe or am I best to scrape it off the paper? Also am I able to spray the spore and water mixture into a spot with ideal conditions for them to grow and expect results? Also looking at creating a little supply to grow at home in a tub, if I use a base of mushroom compost and then the ideal substrate am I able to spray the spores onto that and expect results aswell?

Thanks in advance

Some cultivators have also suggested that removing fruits with scissors leaves open cut ends of stems to rot and can allow bacterial infection of the patch.

The only possible reason I can come up with for this being a possibility is if the following is true:

When a mushroom in the wild dies, circulation of nutrients stops well prior and the fruiting body is shut off from the mycelium. Thus even tho bacteria will invade the fruiting body, they're not able to invade the mycelium. Imagine it sort of being like a tourniquet or something...

Then it would be a possibility that when the mushroom is cut, the bacteria can land on the surface of the cut and move straight into the mycelium, as the mushroom has not had time to close off circulation.

I have little-to-no knowledge of fungal physiology tho, so that's all just a hypothesis based on an adaption of how plants work, in which they'll recognise an infection and isolate the area, allowing it to die off but progress no further, in some cases, not all.

Half your luck guys, I’m have a terrible time and have found nothing at all, been out for hours and all I seem to find is stuff like this.

Anyone know what the little ‘nubs’ are in the last picture? They’ve only just fruited I guess and it’s hard to tell.

At this rate, I’m gonna completely miss the whole season!

Finally cracked it - first successful sub hunt
Northern Otways, in amongst the long grass and bracken fern alongside stands of eucalyptus and pine.
Thanks to everyone for the help and guidance - I've spent the last few months studying this forum like a mofo.  Amazing how once I'd spotted the first couple, they became so much easier to find.

Dude, if you are in Melbourne have you tried looking in woodchip landscaped garden beds? Eucalypt woodlands are good too. Im having trouble finding them in pine and ive been at this is for several years. Hang in there. The night is darkest right before the dawn.

Unfortuently I’m not in Melbourne bro! I’m from Bendigo, everything although it’s rained is still too dry I think, I’ve checked Eucalyptus bushland, pine, you name it and nothing at all hahaha it seems Melbourne is actually the best place to find them, I’m moving 😂

Yer man. Anywhere which has woodchips (or eucalyptus debris or pine needles). Just check the dampest, shadiest areas. If there are bushes then lift the sides and check there.

If I had a car, I guarantee I could find around half a kilo in the Melbourne region within 24 hours. And a lot more if I were to go bush.
