What's deformed? I think it just looks like a normal sub

I think deformed is the wrong wording. It’s more the stripe lines being darker and more defined than other subs. Like I said maybe just wishful thinking but it’s definitely different.

Edit. Ok maybe I’m just tripping, sorry everybody ha.

Thanks for the opinion on picking Koosh, just 2 things.

Firstly I picked it up off the ground as is. It was actually just growing  on its side like you see in the photo believe it or not.

Second the jury is out on the best way to harvest. Personally I’m a scissor man but after much opinion it seems it might not be the best way.

Anyway happy hunting.

Any and every TI on this website will tell you to remove the entire mushroom for identification purposes as there are important characteristics at the base of the stipe (stem).
Placing two fingers on the ground, one either side of the stipe and pulling will remove the entire specimen without disrupting and damaging mycelium.
Yes, rough and haphazard pulling can remove large chunks of myc therefore disrupting the growth of further fruits from that exact site but if done carefully and precisely as I described, pulling is an acceptable method for removing fruits.
You can then use the stem butts to spawn your own patches by growing them out on damp corrugated cardboard.

There are theories that suggest removing the whole fruit allows for other substrate matter to be introduced into the path of the growing mycelium, thereby reinvigorating the patch in the long run.
Some cultivators have also suggested that removing fruits with scissors leaves open cut ends of stems to rot and can allow bacterial infection of the patch.
When I grew cubensis, notorious for bacterial infection, I would use a scalpel and cut the entire mushroom out, cutting around and under the base of the stipe for this exact reason. It never prevented future primordia from forming at that spot but it did prevent rot and subsequent bacterial infection

Paul Stamets (the father of mushroom research) actually says in one of his books that you can take up to a third of the mycelium from a healthy wood-loving species' patch for transplanting and spawning of new patches without any harm.
This is a little extreme in my opinion and would never try such a thing on a wild patch for fear of infection or accidentally removing too much. After all how do you know the size of a patch or where the ideal substrate begins and ends?

I have pulled and I have cut, neither seem to adversely affect a healthy and vigorous patch of subaeruginosa in my experience.
Just be respectful and care for your patch in your own way.
Dont just rip and tear, don't go digging around, walk carefully and gently upon and around it and try to only take fruits that have had a chance to sporulate.

I really do not want to miss this season like I did last year.

The weather has been perfect for Psilocybe subaeruginosa mushrooms and over the next week or two it should be an extremely good time to go hunting since the mushrooms will be a lot more prevalent. There's still plenty of time left in the season, so don't worry.

Like I always say, check the dampest, shadiest spots where there are wood chips, pine needles or eucalyptus tree debris. If you're amongst eucalyptus trees, look closely where there are large pieces of bark and/or dried sticks and leaves on the ground. The mushrooms may only be a few centimetres tall and partially visible. If you come across bushes then lift the sides of them and check there because Psilocybe subaeruginosa mushrooms often grow there.
