Went for my first actual hunt ever, didn't find any subs but found a ton of non actives and a fair few of either amanita muscaria or vermilion grisette

Made an account just to post here. I did some sparse hunting last year, but me and my wife are totally going full fungus-hunters this year! Went for our very first look to our old spot...and got a very nice gift 😃😍 Happy hunting!

I'm predicting a poor season for suburban Melbourne this year, we haven't had much summer or autumn rain - been very dry.

On the topic of the aroma of shrooms, I swear a bag of premium grade potting mix I have smells of subs! I have the bag located beneath a grow tank which has subaeruginosa in it and somehow it seems there has been transference from glass tank to plastic potting mix bag. The potting mix has a lot of pine bark in it, perfect for subs to grow on lol :mushroomgrow:

How's tonight's coldness? Hope this plus rain brings on a flush. I still have leftovers from last year's harvest - from hunting as well as from my own grow.

The amount of rain during summer or early Autumn when its too warm is irrelevant the best spots will hold moisture well with mild rain in Autumn. Last season there was barely any rain yet my spots were good for weeks in Central Vic.

I beg to differ and here's why: if there is insufficient moisture in the ground the mycelium literally shrivels up and dies, and this is especially the case during the scorching summer months when there is no rain relief.

I'm talking generally not about the best spots that will hold moisture well. What if there had been lots of rain last year in your area, might there not have been good spots for months rather than weeks?

I guess we'll know soon enough if my predictions are right or not.

that is kind of the point.  the point is that the mycelium form fruit to spread spores and the mycelium dries out and dies over summer.

also, it is not a given that the mycelium dies, but certainly in an Australian landscape, the chance is pretty high.  Even in Tas, the soil dries out enough to kill off mycelium.

I'm trying hard not to engage with all this rain vs dew talk; I think everyone should just move on. I come here for the sexxy shroom pics, not to read the same inane arguments that occur year after year

And I found a Clathrus Archeri

Nice find on the Clathrus Archeri. I freaked the hell out when I spotted one of these in real life last year
If you don't mind me asking, which area were you able to find such treasures?

Bar two fresh subs still with their veils on I have found every mushroom in dewy wet grass, has anyone else had this experience? the areas are full of dense wet dead eucalypts but they seem to always favor the grassy areas where i am looking similar to the pick above, nice find!

Hey guys,
I have spotted some really tiny pins down in the south east and was just wondering if conditions are right how long do you think they will take to fully mature? Will upload some photos this weekend when i managed to get back down there

Yeah cheers
At the moment, with my current location being quite dry, all my finds are also in dewy grass that usually remains damp all day. I am beginning to find a few in deep runoff gutters/gullies amongst pine plantations, also in the greener grassy patches. Grass denotes moisture, fresh air and some minimal sunlight penetration, three things that I believe Subaeruginosa need to thrive

Not P. Subaeruginosa. Do not consume. They look more like Galerina spp. to me, but I'm not a TI.

Planning on going hunting again Monday but it only just occurred to me what I'm going to do if I actually find some, can anyone here swear by using a fan forced oven at a  low temp like 60°C for an hour or two to make them cracker dry, I don't have a dehydrator nor a fan that isn't connected to the roof so it seems to be my easiest option.

Heat at some level will start to destroy Psilocybin, will need someone more knowledgable to clarify that. In previous instances i have found success from chopping the mushrooms into small pieces to increase their surface area and then leaving them on a paper towel on a damp rid container, or in a drawer with a a few silica capsules from vitamin containers. Leave for a day or two and should work
