I've seen mold on fruits, usually when the temps warm up.

For some reason I've only found them molding in one location, and it is prolific. I was getting worried that it was a mutant strain of ovoid slaying mold, I'm glad to know it happens elsewhere.

It gets real nasty when the calandine starts dying off.  Older clusters will be covered in a nasty web of mold and covered with rotting vegetation.

Went out for lunch to a park to look by a creek I saw on Google maps. Didn't find any ovoids but I did find my first (tiny) morels and pheasants back.

Alright alright, the fruiting is moving up its range and getting closer to my neck of the woods. Finally some PA finds, albeit SE PA...I would expect NY to be fruiting with in two weeks here....what do you guys think?

Seeing that people find these in NY gives me hope for southern Ontario. How far north are people finding these in NY?

To my knowledge, ovoids have not been found in upstate NY...only the Eastern area. I would say that the chances of finding ovoids in Ontario are slim to nill unless you try introducing them.

Yeah im headed down to the southeastern area of the state for some hunting...but there are some habitats closer to me that look very promising but do not have documented finds yet.

Either way i have jars of ovoid spawn going now, I will use to create a mother patch, and then spread to the aforementioned habitat and establish a colony there...soon enough there will be spores traveling down the Genesee baby!

Sweet finds D_little91 and thanks herbtaylor and texturedsounds, it definitely is a beautiful specimen. Weather has been awesome here, at least a little rain most days, day time temps between 60 and 75 with a few days peaking in the 80's, night time temps have stayed in the 50's and 60's. Definitely ready to see more chunksters.

Has anyone seen mold growing on ovoids? I've asked this before but I can't remember any affirmatives.

yup.  i've got a spot that does it but i attribute it to the constant extremely high humidity because of the way this spot is set up.  it produces some really nice fruits, but as it gets warmer in mid may the mold strikes pretty fast.

Yesterday eve I went bk 2 my original spot that got crushed & searched diligently not only threw the surrounding debris but the outskirts as well.  I finally decided 2 wade through the river 2 the opposite bank.

No luck, got soaked, the river was deeper than I thought & I only found an Agrocybe & 3 Dreidel"s Saddle's.

Going bk down the river this eve. wish me luck!

Well I found a nice stretch of river today. It's at least a mile stretch. Sandy soil,  O yea and box elder maples, hundreds if not thousands. SO I am assuming I should concentrate my search to this stretch for the next few weeks. Still was not a lot of fungi life but I did at least find groups of little brown mushrooms, but with really dark gills, dark purple if not black. Not sure what these are. We have had rain every few days for the last couple weeks. Highs in the 60-70's and lows in the 40-50's at night.

Those agrocybes spread like crazy. I don't know if they will force ovoids out, but they will win the battle for unclaimed territory.

Do the gills of the agrocybe dark, like very dark purple or black? I found little brown mushrooms today with white stipes and those dark gills. Very dense clusters sometimes.

I tend to pick them and toss them where there is no wood to recolonize..I know the mycelium is still there..but it will help...makes me feel better anyway...lol
