Nice finds, that awesome!  Good observation with the stilt grass.  Was hardly starting when I was hiking around earlier this week.  Looks like your about a good week away from maturity, with these temps.  The PA spots I go to are still, probably, 2 weeks out.

lol It's all good.  There's just a wide variety with ovoids.  I had never really seen the stout Ohio river valley version until we actually found some along the Ohio river.  Saw the same variety in a major river (western PA) that eventually turns into Ohio river.  Ovoids have a wide range of looks.  I think we all agree that you should set that single mush to the side and enjoy with eyes only.  Next weekend there will be many more for you to find.:awesomenod:

So, my indicator tree bloomed on March 9, predicting first ovoids 17 days later. Only off by 6 days, and considering a snow storm and many nights in the teens, not bad.

off topic but, has anyone checked out google maps?  They got a Ms. pacman game that uses the streets in view.  Kinda neat.

Copperheads have that real distinctive pattern.  They are almost invisible in brown leaves.

Right you are, ran into those water snakes before, they are a bit aggressive. Haven't come across any copperheads. Is that a pic you took koods?

I had a run in with one last year.  Didn't see it until it moved.  If I get bit out here it would be atleast an hour before I could get to the hospital. Those yellow jackets that nest in the ground could take a guy out too.  Also somebody bent over picking would be an easy meal for a mountain lion.

Way to go koods and Jaybob (VA represent!).  Went out today but no luck.  Didnt see any fungi.  Hoped to see some dryads or lacrymaria as they have bee good indicators for me.  Only saw a few shoots of stinging nettle too about 4 inches tall.  I recall last year balance was  finding them early in our area and it was a few weeks before I  found my first of the season.  Tomorrow going to a place where I know they are.  We'll see.

Same here!  We just got 3 days of solid rain,  and temps are warming up. It's like there is ants crawling in my skin or something!
