Jaybobs mushrooom in question kinda Reminds me of this single mushroom I found a couple years back in SW VA. Wasn't sure at the time if this was an ovoid either.

I too agree with Agrocybe.  I suggest not eat that.  I just saw lots of nice healthy  pins in the chip dump.    Was too dark when I got there for a pic. I would call it ovoid season if it rained anyway.  They will probably stand out better in a few days as they dry up.  Right now they are dark and would have been easy to stomp on if I didn't know they were there.

The only thing that is questionable is the gill color.  Could be sterile.  Other than that, totally fits for an ovoid.  Like I said a couple pages back, check the print (if possible) because I have seen this variety on a number of occasions.  Mainly at the one spot in PA we go to.  The cracked cap often happens, I think, because the outer cap does not grow out and forces it to crack in a petal formation as it tries to grow.

Not saying it is, just that the chances are very good it is.

I'll agree with others in saying it could be old,sun bleached, or took on too much water ovoid.Could be an agrocybe also.Either way i would just put it aside and not consume.Here's a few i found similar in appearance to yours. I was sure they were ovoids but didnt keep them,

Both found in the same spot approx the same time.  One of the Agrocybe in my hand there was found by taking some big scissors and cutting down a cluster of a few dozen ovoids.  In the very center was the agrocybe.

Compare that bulbous stem base.  These smelled wierd too and not like an ovoid at all
