They hang around on surrounding veg too when it's wet out. They get in the way and they're everywhere, surrounding veg and shrubbery is ripe with them. Banana slugs will drop down from trees. They also eat your mushrooms. :bored:

I leveled the mounds covering the colonized WBS/woodchips about 2 inches deep. It just looks like a normal planting bed now. :smile:

My field observations would say they're going to wick water through the tops of mounds and fruit prolifically at the base. You see this when you're out hunting and see piles of flail mower detritus from years and years past. Same with ant hills. They'll live inside piles and leave your mushrooms alone but they hurt like Florida fire ants. I'd put my money on the first fruits to pop everywhere but after a few years the piles will just serve as water retention, particularly psilo cyans.

got another 5 yards of woodchips delivered

spread 2.5 gallons of Mycelium.

Cut 1/2 gallon of LC with 2 gallons of water and sprayed all over piles of wood debris and woodchips. I don't really know what to expect with the LC but I think it's worth a shot :laugh:


Well, I feel like this is going to be a very good yield for my efforts come fall, but I could be wrong. Last cyan patch I made was minimal effort and I still ended up very happy.

Keep in mind, all of these planting beds were leveled out covering the colonized wbs/chips about 2-3 inches deep to protect it from drying out




Anyone else see the smiley face on the wbs grain below the woodchip? :laugh:


I feel like I'm laying the colonized stuff down pretty thick

I hope it all works out. But check out neosporins post's about squirels digging up the colonized WBS. I'm sure You will have success anyways with how much you put down. Thats a lot of potential there I will be looking for your post this fall.

I thought about that, that's why I put around 10-15 % woodchips in with the WBS just in case it all gets eaten. So far It's not squirrels I'm having issues with, but birds. They don't even eat the colonized WBS, they just use their beaks and punch little cone shaped holes in the woodchips looking for worms and bugs exposing the mycelium.

I tried LC and had limited success. Probably about 25% of the places I spayed produced last year. This year I'm doing wood sauce LC, Straight pasty plates to chips. For spawn jars I did equal parts verm, alder sawdust and alder chips. I don't think the woodlovers liked the verm very well. Azurescens did the best, Cyans hated and stalled out. Next go around I will do mostly small wood chips with a small amount of sawdust and a small amount of verm.  Good luck with this project I'm sure it will blow up.

sounds like they might even do natures work on spreading some genetics around.

Birds and squirrels will get myc on their feet or carry them around and drop them all over the place. If anything its a service.. and also a trade off. They'll eat your slugs and bugs but will also eat grains. It is what it is.

Cyan season has been over for 4 months give or take (minus a recent faery ring find). They may fruit this year, they may send out a few, or none at all. With this grow I'd imagine fruits by fall season. It's very well done.

Right on, thanks. A buddy was saying azzies are still popping up in PNW, but I thought it was too late. But I'm a much better cultivator than hunter. Can't wait to see how this patch does!

It's been a weird winter; I wouldn't be surprised if some azures popped. It would be of great service to post finds in MH&I and/or mushroomobserver.org. It's not that I doubt it, but pics speak louder than text =P. Finding a patch of them now is pretty unlikely.
