Well it’s nearly that time of year again and I got thinking, I wonder how Lil’s getting on and his patch, and then I realised I never did post my pics of my small patch (uk) as I was basically inspired by this post. Here are some of my highlights. (This was two years ago so cant be arsed doing full write up just now)

I was away obviously didn’t get there in time before they shot their load, but I think that’s ok coz looks like they’re coming back this year and they were unbelievably potent
Hope you’re well dude and patch ok and you still have a green bowl, I had to get one

I've read this thread so many times lately, such an inspiration thanks! Getting ready to do some hunting for them when they start to pop up next month and hopefully get my own patch going next year

I am beyond impressed with this grow. I hope to have enough room to do this at some point as well. Excellent work

I read this thread in Jan. 2020ish and decided to try it on my own. I snatched a few chips from a local patch as inoculation vectors. I put some burlap about 5 inches under ground, placed half of my colonized starters and covered with a mix of alder wood pellets (traeger brand) that break down in moisture to sawdust and a small bag of large Alder wood chips. I then put the other half of starters, alder chips & pellets over that. Year one, Oct 2021, great mycelium colonization under ground but little to none in top? In Nov 21, i got one (one!) small fruit. I got so excited that i pulled it to verify it wasn't poisonous look a like (like Galerinas), and added more pellets. That stopped everything. No more fruits, no pins, ... Crickets! Spring 2022, added 3 5lb bags of alder chips (sold in Fred Meyers in OR. for BBQ Smoking) and watered 1x-2x weekly with a hose to keep moisture in the bed. In June 2022, i lightly mixed in 2 more bags of chips to a depth of ~2" and kept watering 1-2x per week. Oct 28 2022 ... FFFUUUUCCCKKKK yeah! Pins popping up all over but growing slowly. I'm hoping these do not abort as last year's did, but i blame last year's failings to trying to add bbq pellets. I believe they killed the air flow by encasing the myc and it just gave me the finger and went back underground.
My take away is that if you live in the PNW and you have a semi shady wood patch, you can colonize it from other patches' colonized chips. I'm hoping for 100g (dried) flush, but i would settle for a bit less. Go forth and conquer, and good luck!

Get thee to the local craigslist free section and type “woodchips” into the search bar. Cyans prefer chips to pellets and you’ll save tons of cash.

I can’t imagine not being able to source free chips. Besides all the tree service companies, the county has several sites for the public to help themselves.
Looking good!
