I don't mind being considered a heretic by the moronic multitudes, mind you, because those in the majority do not determine Truth. Take Nazi Germany for an example. Origen was a GREAT Ante-Nicean Christian philosopher who still adhered to transmigration of the soul, as most ancient philosophers did, and he struggled with his sexuality to the point of emasculating himself (which didn't really end his fantasizing). Origen was declared by the power-hierarchy to be a heretic. Clement of Alexandria, another Ante-Nicean Christian, considered himself to be a Gnostic. Tertullian originated the word 'trinity,' with regard to the Godhead, and when he became a Montanist, he too was condemned to be a heretic. Augustine elaborated The Trinity at great length, of course, he had been a Neoplatonist for a long time, and The Holy Trinity is an adaption of Plotinian Neoplatonism into Christian, anthropological terms. The Plotinian ONE became the 'Father,' the Nous, became the Son (or Word, or Logos), and the Anima Mundi (World Soul) lost it's feminine Latinized form (Anima = soul), and took on the Greek word 'Pneuma' (Spirit, which is Animus in Latin, and masculine) and which is gender-neutral in Greek, thus eliminating the feminine aspect of the Godhead and rendering a patriarchal nature to the Godhead (which is beyond the opposites). Gnostics, fortunately considered a Trinity to be Father-Son-Holy Mother, and thus reflects the earlier Egyptian theology of Osiris-Horus-Isis. Evident is hatred and vilification of the feminine by the pathological masculine power-mongers of their day! The same kind of males perpetrated the witch-hunts, and dominated the 'Holy' Inquisition with sexual sadism the likes of which make any present day, ''fetish-factory' sexual sadist look like a mischievous schoolboy (barring torture-murderer serial killers, which the inquisitors truly were).
I used to think that Greek spirituality, which taught the flight from the physical world, was just 'higher' in a transcendental sense than the Jewish spirituality that enjoined us to transmute the physical (as does Kabbalah and alchemy). When I matured, and began to put 2 + 2 together; when every male monastic I ever met, whether Franciscan, Capuchin Reformed Franciscan, Benedictine, or Cistercian - was gay. Not only that, rare it was when I met a straight Catholic priest (one came on to a ladyfriend of mine). I remembered why sodomy had long been called 'Greek sex,' and how Deutero-Pauline writings chastised and demeaned women, while the oldest original Pauline writings expressed an egalitarian doctrine that transcended male or female, (and free or slave, Jew or Greek, for that matter). A definite misogyny runs through Pseudo-Paul (who may well have suffered from a "thorn-in-the-side" which was the pathological form of woman-hating homosexuality, something equivalent to the pathological heterosexual hatred of homosexuals). Naturally, others of his ilk would have jumped on that bandwagon of condemnation. There is no Greek word for homosexuality, yet King James saw fit to condemn homosexuals in his 1611 translation of the Bible into English. He didn't do anything that many generations of scribes did before him - making insertions, deletions, and giving a spin of their own when hand-copying manuscripts.
There is just SO MUCH in error with the Bible, its inaccurate or erroneous interpretations and translations, the ecclesiastical structures based on gross misinterpretations of common titles for special instances (like the title 'Son of God'), that I have been attempting to refine it for myself much like the polishing of a great mirror for an observatory's big telescope. After years of cooling, it is polished with increasingly fine abrasives which remove first the gross, then the finer imperfections, before the mirroring (meaning!) is applied. Otherwise, all one gets are incredible magnifications of distorted Light. Such is the Christian Literalist's view. Loud and distorted in many degrees of magnitude. As Ken Kesey said of the early psychedelic gnostics, "We are not many."
