espiritu sanctu
whazzup wif enter ???
convicted (read: slain in the spirit) or jus' wanting to avoid ritual pollution associating wif us "gentiles" ???
hmmmm...
~~~
anyways, as a mahayanist christian i must acknowledge the reality of "spirit"...
but putting a label such as god the father, god the son, or god the holy spirit may be seen as occluding the so-called "ground of being"
~~~
so has anybody read any excerpts from meister eckhart ?(not you, markos ;) ...)
aldous huxley has an excellent introduction to deep spirituality called _the perennial philosophy_ ... and he quotes william law and meister eckhart quite extensively... do youknow that eckhart occasioanlly preached, and was nearly excommunicated from the church? it must have been something to hear him thundering forth in deutsch from the pulpit (and imagine the regular german volk trying to make heads or tales out of his mystical expositions, hehheh...)
~~~
if you want to get a taste of spirit, listen to some palestrina or some j s bach... i think that robert bly said something about listening to bach at night and realizing that something in the music danced in spirit, but might not answer to any of the names we apply to the trinity...
so, if mohandas k ghandi, or the dalai lama, or qanah parker, or pir vilayat khan, or tom jefferson, or george harrison, didn't accept jesus as their person savior (in the best protestant tradition) we must suppose they all gonna sizzle by the lake of fire, right?
~~~
mrak twain said "heaven for the climate; hell for the company"
~~~
didn't the nazarene carpenter say something about "by their fruits shall ye know them" ?
~~~
so i went to this charismatic catholic house meeting quite a few years ago, and we perfomed a guuided meditation where we prepared a room in our hearts, and then welcomed jesus inside... it was a very powerful "christian" spiritual experience...
but i have been to sufi chanting sessions, and to wiccan goddess-centered meditations, and to a few other diverse gatherings, and have had sometimes quite profound experiences... but i was raised iin a christian tradition, and i suppose that much of that will always remain within me...
~~~
but i hope that i have learned that this way is not the only way that is possible to travel the path to "blessed not-two" (if ya know what i mean, eh?)
My sister attended an "Alpha" course, which is basically this course that's been running to introduce people into Christianity - which, apparently, is very successful.
Successful? Pfft.. It's only the Alpha version. ;)
As to your question: Yes, the path is many, there is no one true form to elicit the experience. If it were, then that person is asserting the existence of you-know-who. Claims of ultimate truth are scrutinized under epistemology Anytime an assertion is (mystical or not) being claimed in the objective reality, it has to be validated. That is the difference between personal experience/knowledge (singular approximate) and epistemic/esoteric knowledge (aggregate approximate)... of Truth. I was once one of those people (Alluuujaaah, praise the Lord Buddha! Silly me :D) who mixes the difference up, unfortunately.
I have learnt a few tough lessons in the past years:
1. Beliefs are illusive
2. Neo-mystical experiences + beliefs = delusion
3. Mindfulness tears the pretty rainbows from one's eyes
4. The breath of Insight crystallizes from friction of Duality
5. The present moment is cherished above all else
I know there are some terms you do not recognize. they are integral of Buddhist teachings and psychology.
