God Bless You!
    #8773067 -

I was walking into the supermarket when an obviously homeless man mumbled, "God bless you, sir," which I immediately translated as, "Hey brother, can you spare a dollar?"

Upon leaving the store the same man said more loudly and with a touch of bitterness, "God bless you, man." This translated as "You fucking cheap bastard. I saw the nice car you drove up in."

Story aside, can a mere human direct God to present favor upon another human being? Does he not already know what everyone needs? Will a simple reminder or appeal to pity sway his cosmic judgement merely because some man-ape made little mouth sounds?

I honestly don't know how this whole thing works.

I'd rather give my change to an honest bum who doesn't beg like a dog.  Schemers give me a sickly feeling.

I think he is hoping to catch people who believe that commanding blessings unto others in Gods name, is like doing them a kind favor. So I think he hopes, anyone who sees it as such, will want to return the favor-in cash blessings.

Next time, just say back, " God Bless You too."

If commanding God to bless others truly has meaning to him, he should feel as if an equal favor was returned in kind.;)

Or, you could be a smart ass and say back, " I'll pray that God gives you freaking job man."

Or, 'Fuck God, and the horse he rode in on.'

I think 'God bless you.' also, serves to disarm people, so they aren't afraid of the bum on the ground.

You asked so here it is. My take. We are all the same thing, connected at the same basic strata. Therefore, no, no priests or other humans can bestow blessings of an ever more superlative nature, if such exist.  As such, the person would have to assume the God's wisdom to do such, and let's get real, history shows that no such humans have yet existed.

On the other hand, if one assumes that the most superlative structure of the universe is also one with our very selves then in that case one is actually a representative of that God and so as such one can direct such a being's awareness, if only in a small way.

Finally, if a being with a personality created all this, then it could be said that we already are living the blessings of the God by existing at all.

Who can be said to have never gasped, "Oh God!" at least once over something.

Such are Her blessings.

Yes, I love that shit.....Once I was in Jacksonville, NC where me and a couple of my co-workers were walking into a laundry mat and there was this toothless ass old lady outside.  As we were passing her by she started talking about god and Jesus Christ our savior, then she was like.....OK, I want you guys to come together and give me 20 dollars.  HAHAAHAHA.  I laughed so hard I almost peed a little, then walked inside and did my laundry.:rofl2:

Yes, God Bless you too!

Sounds like a pretty tolerable bum actually.

The jerks in ATL shout "Hey!" from across the street like you're their best friend and follow you down the street, sometimes into restaurants.

Really I shouldn't say anything because most of them die within a couple years of being on the streets and are probably more mentally ill than we understand. :frown:

if one does not believe in god, then one cannot really answer your question.
