Indeed. My area seems to be void of Subs no matter where I check. Thanks to that hunt I am begining to seed my local area with spores. Spread the love for anyone else who looks next season.

Going picking with a mate for the first time (without an experienced guide) this weekend. Won't waste all our time by asking for spots, but what advice can people offer in terms of general areas, some tricks for finding, as well as making sure everything is picked sustainably. I'm located in South-eastern suburbs but willing to travel if anyone can point me in the right direction. Cheers

After a solid two weeks of checking my regular spot its finally starting to fruit! Found these in the upper northern suburbs. Sorry for bad quality photos this is what i found after dehydrating them. They are P.Subs.

jealous of everyone. New to hunting, have read everything I need to know from this site. second day out, still no luck. will keep trying

this morning I did an hr long walk along a local walking trail in s/e melb glen waverley. the environment was incredibly diverse throughout the walk, even diverged off the main track into a dense paddock, did not find any p.subs. 

not sure if i'm in the wrong area, or i just need to keep looking. any tips are much appreciated.

I believe the tall, thin phenotype is more prolific in forest habitats as opposed to suburbia. They are still the same species though.

Hi guys, sorry about basically asking for an id but im having some trouble deciding if these are subs or not a handful bruised blue on the stem, but some were brown and orange on the stem and bruised blue on the cap and gills only. i spore printed one of the big ones and it came out blackish purple but i just wanna make sure, thanks.

Yep, those will get you seeing the choomahs all right. Just spore print them all to be sure, should be purple like you said. And if you're worried, toss any that don't display clear blue bruising.

So I took the Monday off because I came back empty handed in the Otways and got myself a nice little haul. I found two new spots with advice from Painkiller and filled 3 levels in my dehydrator. It's good to be back in the swing of things as I (mostly my friends) finally got through the 250g dry I picked in 2016. Can't wait for a solid week of pouring rain so my super spot produces again which will keep me and all my friends busy for another few more years! Best wishes to all!

IMO areas I see here look a little flat, you might find one or two but my advice would be searching around an area with more slopes and dips where humidity can be trapped. The trees and litter look right so you are almost there! Chin up

Season is on! Found about 3-4kgs collectively in 3 hours or so. About 100 or so of ridiculously big hand sized ones. Happy hunting!

Plenty to be found in Melbourne. I live in the inner SE suburbs and have picked ~30g dry from two short outings.

Legit went to North Melbourne/ Trentham area today annnnnnnd found heaps of mushrooms apart from Subs, probably being a very inexperienced hunter doesn’t help BUT! I’ll keep trying I guess! Pics of today’s finds!
