I am curious about Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata. Has it been known to grow on the southern coastal mainland of British Columbia by any chance or is that too far north of a latitude for it? I have never actively searched for this particular species before.

So I need to mulch my beds, and if I ever get ovoid spores to germinate, I want to knock up those flower beds. Question I have, is there any issues using Cyprus mulch? I just like its color better than most.

I recently mulched a tub I have in the yard and only had Cyprus much available. I worried whether the anti fungal properties of the wood would mess with the mycelium or if it would work out better because the myc wouldn't colonize the mulch. Seems like they're fine with it, finally got it fruiting after nearly two years.

It's amazing what moving your hunting grounds 20 miles up the road can do for you! Searching for 5 years to searching for 5 minutes to literally having a hard time walking without trampling them
It's just the perfect natural habitat. Ohio River Valley just like all the references say...
I used to hate living here, but since I've been into hunting mushrooms... it's not SO bad :stoned:

And Thanks Willy, backatcha Bub!

just wondering if skunk cabbage could be an indicator?

IME skunk cabbage is too swampy normally for ovoids but they certainly liked that spot.

It was kind of a dry week, most of what I found I had to dig for under leaves and matted grass.

Wow, this has been a great start to the year as it seems like everyone is having a bit of luck and the conditions have been just right so far. Loving all the great pictures everyone. My friends in Wheeling are having lots of luck so PA is not far behind. Still hoping to hear from Satanicshroomer this year. I've got one more day to hunt and I think I'm going to focus on Morels, but could easily switch back to ovoids if I don't have any luck.

Finally found some at one of my spots tonight. All were small and dry ... there were a lot of pins waiting for moisture. Ahhh the feel of stinging nettle on my fingers....lol

Same here....I've not seen any growing that close to skunk cabbage in all my years hunting.

Nice to see the finds coming in. Just got back from a trip to SE PA and then checked on MD spot on way back home.  All I have to say is it's on!!  Gonna chill out a bit, but will get pics up asap.  :mushdance:

Mind providing me a habitat shot for SE Ohio? I went and spent 12+ hours looking this weekend in all my normal spots and only found 3 lil pins where I've found pounds before.

Once again, really nice finds to all those finding some!

What a tremendous day!  Earlier this week my partner and I was given the wonderful gift of being able to witness our first crazy mulch fruiting, courtesy of Koods.  Completely astonishing are the things Koods is working with in his area.  Even without the mulch his areas look perfect.  The county or state or whatever took a perfect flame and doused it with gas.  Not only were the fruitings something to see, but the actual fruits were like looking at a new species almost.  All in all a long, but wonderful, hike around the surrounding woods spotting ovoids.  I can't thank him enough for that.
Well the you know what came and it was time for us to hit up the spots we've known about for years.  Wasn't sure if much would be happening, but had a hunch things were starting at least.  Spent the night up in PA so I could easily get to the couple areas I needed to today.  Things turned out better than I thought they would after a quick look around yesterday afternoon.  Found a lot of young clusters and even more pins for next time.  Spent all day out and about (7am-7pm), but was totally worth it.  I can't wait to see what the season has everyone this year.  Should be good stuff all around.

Here's a good bit of what I was able to observe today.  A couple of PA pics came from yesterday afternoon.

from SE PA

from N MD

Wanted to leave you with this habitat shot.  It's of a massive box elder that must of fallen onto a culture.  When this happens you can be sure to find ovoids there for years.  This pic is from PA but there's a spot like this at the MD spot that is just now starting to fruit from the upper trunk logs.
