Cool looking elf circle though

So ovoids have brown or purplish gills correct? What is the best way to differentiate a galerina from an ovoid? I've been studying up but I always like to get a definitive comparison when a deadly look alike is involved. I went out last weekend and found what I think is good habitat. Lots of woody  debris on flat areas right next to a stream that seemed to have had some recent flooding. I only found a few cup fungi unfortunately...

As far as I know i think the spore print and tbe bruising are all i need to look at in order to ID.

I do have a microscope though for more certain ID.

I find Galerina almost all winter

Really, not me....they seem to hang around late fall or lately early winter and then reappear in early spring.....very similar to ovoids but maybe 2 weeks later in the fall and 2 weeks earlier in the spring.

Went out for a quick look around today.  Nothing really happening yet. Didn't even see pins where known cultures fruit.  Looking at another 2 weeks till first major flush. Was able to get some nettle for eating,  but things aren't quite ready for ovoids.  Hoping to upload some pics soon.  Just waiting on temps to warm up and get things going.  :mushdance:

After a February that was warmer than a normal March, March ended up colder than February. We're still likely to see an earlier start than normal, but it's not going to be shockingly early as it seemed it would be a month ago. My indicator tree that normally blooms two weeks before the start of the ovoid season bloomed and then the blooms were murdered by lows in the teens.

Love the nettle, makes a tasty tea and very healthy. You eat them like a salad?

What is that?  Galerina?

Yup. Same area (within 10 feet) that ovoids grew last year too and probably will again.

You gotta sprinkle some of those iron phosphate pellets around your cultivated beds or the slugs will get them before they have a chance.

Totally blew my mind with these today.  I looked in every one of my spots where I've found them before and some new spots, found nothing.  I had gotten discouraged and decided to cross the road and look on the hillside for some morels with no luck. So I said fuck it and started walking back down the road towards my car, just bumbling along not paying attention. I noticed somebody threw a pack of rolling papers out on the ground, it caught my eye caused me to look down and BAM! ovoids! Growing out of leaf litter and gravel above the flood zone.

I'm about 90% sure. If they don't show a little bit of blue I'll throw em out.  They do look a little weird. Idk what else they could be tho.  They're not galerinas.  Spore color looks right.

Damn that's unsettling. I definitely would not have been able to differentiate the two as I am a novice in the world of mushroom identification.

I think they are Psathyrella.  Everything looks spot on like ovoids.  The only thing that's a little weird is the stem is fragile. Stem is white hollow scaly towards the bottom, rhizos. I'm working on a pic.  They aren't showing any blue.  These are one hell of an imposter.
