Nice job.  That is going to be a massive flush in the spring I bet.

Indeed. No need to give up after 6 months. Give it a year or two and we'll see what happens

Dude, if you keep that patch going, there may be a day when you can't even see mulch through the all the caps.

Found my first ovoids of the fall...lots of myc but hardly any fruits. There are also galerinas ( 2nd photo) around as well as armillaria and psathyrella. They seem to be fruiting later and later every Fall.I can't remember still seeing armillaria around this late either.

Thayendanegea you said "They seem to be fruiting later and later every Fall.I can't remember still seeing armillaria around this late either."

I'm not sure when BUT I do know that the seasons have shifted bringing winter later & shorting it's span while enhancing falls.  Growing up, we butcher in Nov. BUT the last 10 yrs or so we've had 2 butcher in Jan. or Feb. due to the weather being 2 warm.

I'd asked a few ol timers if they recall weather like this.  Each remembered these shifts but could not give me a good reference on how long they where or lasted.  The only thing that each stressed - you ALWAYS pay 4 those mild seasons with some well over due HARD-WINTERS & everything shifts bk 2 normal.

According 2 some & The Farmers Almanac (which I haven't checked) - it may happen this year.

I'm afraid that there is a new normal, Va. hunter...judging by global temps. We may get the occasional brutal winter, but, they have become more and more infrequent. A couple years ago, I picked ovoids on New Years Eve...there had not been a substantial enough freeze to knock them down yet...that was nuts.

Our growing season is at least a month longer than it was 20 years ago. This year was two months longer.

It's crazy to me that 20 years ago ovoids weren't even recognized as a species.

Yeah that is pretty amazing considering how prevalent they are. The first few weeks in may they are the most commonly encountered mushroom in this area.

It just goes to show how the field of mycology is still in it's infancy. So much to be discovered.

If that wasn't so downright sad....it would be funny. At least they're using the idiots names so that they will hopefully be attached to this ridiculous backtracking on common sense science. I'm sure that they will go down as the least beneficial administration to our environment since the old unchecked clear cutting and strip mining in the last century.

There is another reason for these extended/shorter seasons, climate change as well as Global Warming = The EARTHS AXIS or POLE SHIFTS.  These major shifts in our poles has changed the climate throughout history.

(Please Note - I tried finding the best video 2 explain this short & simple...)
Didn't happen BUT I did however get a cancellation prize w/ 1.  VARY INTERESTING, check it out....
