Just hopefully they've learned from past mistakes of bringing in a natural predator of a tick (which i'm sure there is 1 but hv no clue what that is) to help decrease tick population therein causing yet a whole new unforeseen problem that they have NO SOLUTION and/or CATASTROPHIC 2 the environment.

Just saying....

Sweet!  I figured they'd be out by now.  My partner only saw a couple early last week.  I'm sure yesterday helped out a bunch too.  Might have to try and limp around and see whats up.  Busted knee be damned lol :oldman:

Is it worth it to search around smaller streams or are they mostly around the bigger rivers?

I'm close enough to the delaware river (few minutes drive), but there are also a few streams within walking distance that look like ideal habitats.

Go for the streams  it's just going to be harder if you haven't already found a patch there in the spring when things were less covered up.

I think those PA variety are much more prone to fruit in the fall

I was under the impression that the cold is what signals the ovoideocystidiata species to fruit in the fall. If it warms back up and rains, I wouldn't put down the idea of a fall flush this year

I haven't been lucky enough 2 find any in the fall & even tho they like cold snaps. 15 degrees may be a bit much but again, I haven't found any this time of year, so i'm NO expert.

I still haven't been out yet, but my partner was able to find a total of 12 on Friday.  So far it appears to be a slack fall season this year.

I think that phenotype originates from the NY area, so quite possible.  Compared to the stout stems and wider darker caps of the ones in our area,  their longer stems and lighter caps definitely make them easier to spot in the fallen leaves.

It all depends on what kind of warm front we get, if we get one.  If things can hover above freezing for a couple weeks they'll still be coming up.  Ovoids can survive a freezing day, no prob.  I have even found them completely frozen before.  The only thing about these temps is that it really slows down their metabolism, causing them to mature fairly slowly.  Also it's a bitch to search under all the autumn leaves.  There can be small clusters hidden from sight if you look in spots that produced in the spring.

I have found a total of 5 ovoids so far this fall. Finding tons of galerina which usually fruit about the same time. The conditions are perfect for fruiting right now...the soil/wood litter is moist and cold.
 I don't get it....never had a Fall season this bad.

Hoping they're just fruiting late.:mushroom2:

had one pin in a cultivated bed that got chewed by a slug into a small blue stump.  nothing else stirring but some surface myc in my cultivated beds.  maybe i'll go to a few known patches this weekend and do some scoping...feeling good enough for a very short hike down by the river.

Those look like weather beaten big mutant pholiota species of some sort.
Not gyms but those are common "look a likes' too gyms.
Keep hunting
