That's not a panaeolus. It's either psilocybe semilanceata or femitaria, will have to get it sequenced which will happen soon.

OK, thanks. But is it being grown in a container with grass?

Man, cloning bisporus :foreheadslap: tiny brittle hollow stems. Pretty sure I'll just get contam on the plate. Send good vibes my way.

I feel your pain, cloned 4 Bisporus last weekend.  Getting fuzzy, used antibiotic and low nute activated charcoal agar. Hopefully I can get some action...

Loving Pan Cyan tho, pulling a pie plate a day from the tent.  So awesome they just keep flushing with no lag like Cubes/Nats

Cased my pans day before yesterday. And yesterday I removed the tape and put some micropore tape instead.

Is this setup ok for fruiting? Of course, I would mist and fan few times daily. And maybe when pins show would remove micropore tape completely. Is that enough humidity and (especially) FAE?

Should be OK to get some fruits. On your next run you could try more FAE right after casing and see how that works.

Thanks,Baba Yaga. Should I patch these white spots with casing? Immediately today or wait a bit?

Here is the pic from last night (dont mind the lightning🙂)

Does look OK for now. I would let it do it's thing and see where it goes. Difficult to give advice without being able to actually poke my
nose in that tub. You have grown pans before IIRC right? What was your experience so far?

Did once. It was ok, although low yield (probably due to MSS). Got some 9-10 g dry weight from 2 trays like these. Did patch it, but dont know if it is necessary. I think I am not able to hit that sweet spot of WHEN to patch. As soon as myc poke through or a bit later. Maybe I'll just leave it to do its thing.

Sooooooo, this is bad right? Lol.
(I know it's dirty looking and not neat at all.)

EDIT: the reason I went ahead and used it is because it didn't look that bad in the container it was in and I already had my spawn mixed in with some coir so I did one with and one without the manure. I won't be too upset if I fail. I can always try again.

Any ideas what’s going on with this agar plate I forgot about? Pan cyan wild coast MS T4.

Big blue blob next to where the wedge was laid and some sclerotia looking spots all over. I know I’m not the best photographer so sorry for picture quality ahead of time.

This is gunna seem like a bit of a noobish question but I’m a Pan/Manure sub rookie so I’ll let myself off

I bought some manure based compost a few weeks ago and put some in a bucket (not air tight). It’s been sat in the garage for a few weeks and now has some white mycelium on it which after a bit of Googling I’ve found is likely Actinomycetes.

My question is, is this all good to pasteurise? From what I understand this is all part of the natural breakdown of a manure based substrate and perfectly normal. Just wanted to double check with the experts.

Here’s a pic for clarity:

That's not Actinomyces. That's mold. But I'd say it's okay to re-pasteurize. I did so on more than one occasion.

No? Ah right, okay. It’s not been pasteurised before it’s just what I took out of the big bag a while ago. Anyways, I’ll go ahead and pasteurise it then anyways. Thanks mate, appreciate it.

Is anyone familiar with species in the Panaeolus genus other than cinctulus producing sclerotia or pseudo-sclerotia?  I realize I am making a bit of a conjecture with this question but sharing an experience with a plate of Pan Cyan BVI here.

I have a plate of Pan Cyan BVI which over time has started producing nodes that have turned a darker color within (covered with mycelium).  My first guess here was contam but this growth appears to have started after full colonization, it doesn't seem to be the case that this is some contam that the BVI has taken over.

I opened this plate and used a scalpel and microscope to analyze what these formations were.  When I cut them open, they were very tough, like the consistency of a gummy bear.

Cutting cross-sections of these formations showed these interesting "bits" that look translucent, like clear rubber or something with the same consistency.  I put them under a microscope and am showing the microscopy below.

I was hoping these were some kind of pseudo-sclerotia but I realize I'm stretching it for what Panaeolus is known for?  However these formations appear to show some azure blue coloring on 40x magnification, check out the last pics.

These are much harder than the consistency of an invitrio pin, and in fact are harder than a mushroom stipe (especially a Pan stipe).

My jambos looked like they might’ve been forming something close to stones. It freaked me out but they still smelled good so I spawned em. I’m more interested in trying to get my fruiting chamber dialed in than running science experiments. But I’m just giving you :2cents:

I posted some pics of pan cyan "florida" doing that on agar. Someone posted a photo of a peace river awhile back that was forming what looks like sclerotia. Someone also said they saw it on their bisporus plates but didn't want to say anything for fear of being labeled as a crazy person. I'm beginning to believe that most Panaeolus species produce sclerotia. Which is pretty cool. I've noticed some of my Cinctulus on agar produce stones quicker if they sit in colder temps for awhile . 66.6°F is my constant basement temp lol this house is cursed...

We should all work on isolating some of these pearl-producing pans. Doors anyone know if Cinctulus will form pearls in LC? I have a couple agar dishes that are forming them, a few are growing a decent size, seems to grow a little when I transfer them. There's a bacteria riding along with it though so it's been tedious trying to get clean plates, I did succeed in getting a few tho.

Thanks for taking a look guys.  Do these formations in fact look like sclerotia/stones to everyone else too?  I had heard of cintulus being capable of this, but I wanted to delve into the microscopy to take a closer look at what these cyans formed.

I might put a few more of these formations under the scope to take a closer look if its worth it.

I think what you have looks like sclerotia. My blue pearls are also hard, almost rubbery. Looks like it's starting to produce metabolites too, which is what the pearls do. I've seen photos of lighter colored Cinctulus pearls that look very similar, mine are a mix of purple-ish blue, greenish, and white.

Cintulus:

I tossed some pints after they formed very dense growths that eventually bruised blue.  Wasn't sure what was going on lol

Pan Cyan var Wild Coast

My genetics supplier said the genetics that do that are often poor fruiters
