yeah he will sequence it, yes grew just like pan cyans but then again so do pan cams so who know. it could be something completely different like pan Africana or some shit. I also have a wild specimen collected from the island of komodo. (diff source) my friends wife does research on the dragons and he collected it on the island with her. we are pretty sure its pan cam but not sure. fun STUFF!!!

Well I don’t know that to be true necessarily although I have yet to find a pan that you didn’t like manure (yet) lol Although I’ve heard talk of people growing them without it I don’t see the need to over complicate something that’s already pretty complicated

Very true, pans have been giving me some trouble recently, but I'll get them to work eventually! I wanna get into zaps and Aztecs and I think weilli are the ones that are like a little puffball, they look way cool

yeah the pans can be tricky you really just gotta spend time with them and you will start to get a feel for them. every strain a little different but most info translates in one way or another. im pretty confident I can make the zaps happen relatively quickly. and ill kick out prints. the Aztec is gonna be a lil harder. might take a few trays before I get them but I think we can figure her out! hell yeah man im excited to see what you come up with! where are u having ur difficulty with the pans?

They definitely look like pans! But I'm no identifier either, haha my trouble is getting them to colonize the bulk substrate, I have a tray of oats spawned to some coir and cow manure/compost mix and its colonizing suuppeer slow, could be slightly bacterial though, getting nice thick mycelium where it is colonizing its just taking forever

Ive been trying to get some pans going, I failed my first attempt, 2nd try and their pinning now. So I read that shaking the spawn, and or breaking it up to mix with sub  isnt good. So my 2nd attempt I just got the spawn out of the jar by slapping the bottom. Then I put a layer of black kow down. Then the spawn, then more black kow. So far so good, I will post some pics later. But just wanted to see what you thought about the not breaking spawn up Pan Man.
Thanks much, BSM

Yeah I agree 😫 well I have one other supposed subtrop print from a different source I’ll try. It moves so slow across the grain though and the Bach very on characteristic of SB it moves so slow across the grain though and the bark very on characteristic of pans. I was certain it was what it claim to be up until last night I started having doubts.  It makes sense though because the trays I put to coir Did not fruit so I wonder what species of pan this is it definitely looks like the Australian At this stage

Maybe it's Panaeolus tropicalis, I guess those two names could possibly get confused:shrug:

I should have my micrometer on Tuesday I’ll measure the spore size. Of course I’m going to need you to tell me what that size means LOL If it is tropicalis that would be pretty cool because I failed several times with it they are harder than any other pan I have attempted

I see a lot of ppl recommending 60%-!00% manure but ime the straw is just as important. I cut in 60% chopped strae 35% manure 5% verm. ive tried on super dung heavy subs and no pins. that's not to say it cant be done coud depend on the dung itself but my advice is to try that bulk recipe

@Jake I guess you could send it someone that could look at the basidium. Have no idea what kind of magnification
that would take.

That would make sense, I should add more verm or something to lighten it up, or break down and buy some straw

Ive been using this cheap cow manure and compost mix i got at home depot, they seem to take to it pretty well, just gotta sift out all the sticks first

I would definitely use a straw I think the reasons pans prefer dung It’s because it is digested grass I don’t think they’re able to get the most out of it before it is digested however mixing it in with some Dunga seems to alleviate the process this is just what I’m noticing I don’t have any scientific evidence to back this up but I’ve been cutting my straw in pretty heavy and they love it

Spore size should tell me something My micrometer arrives on Tuesday.  to tell what strain it is would require DNA sequencing wouldn’t it and even then could you definitively say what region it came from ? I’m not exactly sure of the answer to these questions I’m just now really delving into this kind of subject matter as I gear up for pan crosses I have most of the equipment I need but finding the information is proving somewhat Slowly but Surely I’m getting it though I have a bout for PDFs to read tonight after I get done in the lab
