Stumbled across these yesterday out the front of my house (Ballarat area)
Hopefully after this rain they start showing up everywhere!
Good little start to the season, happy hunting everyone!

First subs for me.
Eastern Suburbs
Hoping the next few days of rain will help them grow

I think these are p. subs but I'm not sure. Found them in my yard in Northern suburbs after overnight rain.

In previous years I've found them in this exact spot too. Thoughts?

In the first pic, I circled some frills I noticed, which I found unusual.

However, some of them have traces of dark violet spores just underneath the gills which is promising.

Bruising them has not yielded any blue colour and I otherwise cannot see any blue colour in them but the stems and caps look to be about right.

Cheers for the help. Seems the season will be underway with the rains incoming this weekend .

These are not subs but likely a Cortinarius species. For future reference don't post ID requests in the official season threads, they're intended for confirmed actives found in their region. Just make your own ID request post next time.

Apologies for posting in the incorrect place but your help is much appreciated nonetheless.

I'll keep that in mind for next time then.

Ent, I love your poop shroom finds.
Aside from the poop (my understanding is any poo will do, be it cattle, horse, roo), what are the ideal conditions/environment for Alutaceas?
I know a few local places swarming with roos that I wouldn't mind checking out since the subs aren't quite here yet.

bob's guide is the best. But I'll quickly answer your questions. From my experience shelter from the elements is good, probably the poo holds together better than out in the open. The few other VIC finds I have seen appear to be among eucalyptus trees with bracken and grassy undergrowth, judging by the photos. They don't seem to care what the temperatures are like. Provided adequate rainfall and humidity, they appear happy to fruit even when it's relatively warm in the day (bob has confirmed this, and my first find this season was in March ), though they do dry out very easily (they also rehydrate well). Hope this helps.

Thanks mate, I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled as I venture out. I found what seemed would be be a really ideal spot in an Aboriginal bush sanctuary (plenty of Eucalypts, grassy/ferny undergrowth, very damp underfoot and quite a few roos around), but the place was eerily void of any fungi, let alone actives. It was quite weird. I've never come across an entire park without a single specimen, particularly when everywhere else seems to be flushing now.

:mad:Whoever just recently went out to Macedon this week and is destroying the grass again like last season. Doing donuts and digging tire marks all around the shrooming spots where the roos and wallabies usually eat and chill every morning. Leaving piles and piles of toxic and non active shrooms right on the edge of the road, making it obvious to what you are doing and how careless and damaging you are. Guess what? You have been reported to the local police and rangers. I'm tired of noobs disrespecting the land and environment with no care for the beautiful habitat. Not everyone is in this just for a high and some recreational fun. Some people actually live here and don't want our area destroyed by careless noobs. After reporting the incident yesterday I went out  to check the areas and guess who was on patrol in the area. 2 police officers and a ranger making rounds.(wow, that was quick) Let's see who wants to be careless and disrespect the land now that they are aware of you land trashers. RESPECT THE LAND!

Ugh I saw this too when I went on my hike/hunt. Even on Mt Macedon people are ripping up the grass doing donuts and leaving rubbish on the ground where they park their car. 4-5 water bottles and packets of chips

I underdstand your frustration but your actions have now endangered everyone that goes out to Macedon. You do realise the government here is logging old growth forest and killing endangered species? You should be more upset about that.

Great, Vic police. Just what we need at this time of year. They aren't our friends and you've made that area unsafe.

Be careful everyone. Respect the areas you hunt in.

Agreed, It's very annoying what the others were doing with their cars and leaving huge piles of picked inactives around (I've seen this before myself) but now anyone else who hunts on Macedon has got to watch out for police and/or rangers patrolling the area. Not good.

Yes it's irritating to see others damaging the ecosystem but to report people mushroom picking to police is irresponsible.

That's my local, and is it really happening more during the season than not?
Why put police and rangers out onto mushroom pickers specifically for what is a) likely a very small petcetsge of the people who pick there
And b) is probably often not even people there to pick

My bad venting on your thread, but I just understand the level of frustration that comes with dealing with ppls trash.  Just want to say that I love seeing what you all post and I always enjoy the beautiful pics from across the other side of the globe.  Such a unique place and filled with wonderfully unique fungi.  Thank you all for sharing these mushrooms with us.  :mushroom2:
