Hey people of S.E Australia. Was wondering if anyone had any clue as to when subaeruginosa season starts in Victoria/Tasmania. Tas has a climate a little cooler than victoria I undrestand, so was wondering if there were any Tasmanians here to verify that season may start a little earlier? if so any estimates... isn't due until about the mid/end of next month (pre-emptive, mycellium inoculation etc) have heard of it starting at the end of april in WA
any help would be appreciated me PM me or just reply here, I'm not really a frequent visitor to Hunting forums.
peace

It all depends on weather really. Ive found subs as early as first week of april, but that was preceded by heavy rain and a sharp drop in temperatures. Generally, its early to mid may that they first really start to appear. Once temps get down to about 15 degrees celsius, and around 8-10 at night with alot of consistent rain, thats when they should start to pop up.

What location are you in? the temperatures down here have already dropped to around 13-15 average and it's just started raining fairly heavily the past couple of days. Maybe gloabal warming is fucking things up?
I dunno, but even my boss said today "it smells like winter already"

Id say nights should be 5 (+/-3) degrees C and days should be 10 - 15 degrees C. I read somewhere optimum fruiting temps were around 2-5 degrees C (its possible they can fruit at 10) and optimum mycelium colonization temps were 11-14 (but they will colonize at higher temps). There should be a day with a decent amount of rain say 50-80 or so mm and other days prior with 20 or so. Some spots on the ground that are shaded by large shrubs can be up to 5 degrees lower than the atmospheric temps (good hint). Also some spots will retain more moisture than others, shadier spots and spots with lots of organic debris, mulch ,woodchips will do this (another one). There will be warm days, but dont worry about them too much, as long as your getting some coldness and rain it'll be fine. Its possible you can get 'em im April, but you can expect them by May (if you do lots of looking or know a patch).

Well down here there are thousands of acres of Pine Forests and Mallaleuca(sp) reserves, I have plenty of spots scoped out that, given intense hunting and picking, should yield me enough shrooms to cap and store through for a few years.
Not far away at all... I'm so eager.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of Semilanceata (Liberties). I'm prety sure my research tells me to check cow fields after heavy rains at any time of the year. I was wondering if there was much chance of me finding these after the next few rains? I remember when I went out one day to just go take some photo's of all the mushrooms I found around our place. I didn't pick any, but I remember there being heaps of little mushrooms around the paddocks that were growing in horse manure... Do you think it's possible these could be it? Next time it rains for a few days, I'll head down and take a look...
