Went to an old MD spot yesterday with 3B3B4E.  Was hoping to see some good action with clusters in places, but ended up being mostly singles and doubles again.  It was still a good day though hanging out and finding ovoids with a chill person.  Next year he'll definitely be able to locate them, no problem.  Already has a keen eye for the ovoids and this year has gained the knowledge to find sweet clusters next spring, maybe even this fall.  We actually saw some pins coming up too, which is keeping me hopeful for one last small flush.  Here's a couple of the nicer looking ovoids we came across.

Thanks man for keeping us updated with these beauties! I would definitely clone that huge fucker from pic 9, lol.

And I'm just sitting here jealous, in Central EU, because we don't have these. Not yet at least. :mushroom2:

I totally missed this post.
Pictures look awesome man.
No.6 in the photos is hard to appreciate without looking at it 360 in person--but it's the coolest mutant I've ever seen.
Common stem, separation, two distinct caps that grew into one.
I don't know how it happens, I do know we were blessed to find it.

Definitely an awesome day hunting in the woods with an awesome guy.
I really enjoyed observing the PA type version of these--similar in most ways, still very distinct from the more southern variety I've come across.

I learned a lot this season, and I owe it all to this place and this thread.
From the pictures and comments to the couple of people I've met in real life who really helped me the most.
I've got mad love for you all

Most important thing I've learned, outside of how to find  them in the first place, is feeding the spots you do find.
It's something I never considered at first but it's the greatest thing you can do to give back to these mushrooms that give so much to us. In doing so they'll reward you that much more in the years to come.
It's something so easy for us to do that the ovoids cannot do themselves.

I know this season is drawing to an end, but for anybody who ventures out again, break a few dead limbs from a box elder and feed these little beauties.
The appreciation won't go unnoticed.

Thayendanegea, Haha I still have about a week left in me.  It's mostly about feeding patches and doing transplants at this point.  Found a really sweet area that was too jungled up to look thru, but was screaming for a couple transplants of the northern variety.  There was a couple really big trees that had, kinda recently, fallen into a wash type area.  Just a perfect spot to get something going in.

3B3B4E, Hell yeah, that one was really crazy cool!  It was a successful day in my book.  You're gonna be doing good come next year.  :awesomenod:

Thanks rhizoRider   The northern variety of ovoids is definitely my favorite phenotype.  They just look so pretty when you can find them starting to open up.  The wavy capped one's look cool too, but I think it's the longer stems that make the others so appealing.

Hope your patch is still coming in good.

And congrats on getting us to pg 100!  :mushroom2:

I have pics to share once uploaded but didn't get flushes like you guys see. I think my northern season is short. Our hot dry days don't help it seems we have near instant summer with short spring. Morels pop n go fast I think voids may too. First bed had 19 fruits. Last few were micro size getting uprooted by worms mating on surface at night.  A second bed still has two lil beauties. Fingers crossed these two have spores. One looks like your fav pheno. Lil dark sharp nip with long stems :awedance: I'm thinking to feed spots and hope next spring is interesting. Rhizo able to try one dose lol. I ain't giving up I'm stoked :awedance: butts off nicest size ones put to chip jars too

Hell yeah!  Best of luck and hope the slugs find food before they find your ovoids.  Can't wait to see your pics.  :mushroom2:

That's a sweet find! :super:  What a chunky ovoid! :awesomenod:
The biggest one I've seen to date had a stem like that.  Ended up coming in at 3.7g dried.

Not much of a difference between the two.  The thick stems seem to account for most of the weight.  Really nice find!!

I wonder if ovoids behave the same as cubensis regarding the big ones. I always got the largest mushrooms on my third or 4th flush(final flush) on cultivated cubes....there would only be a couple mushrooms on the final flush but they would be huge.
.....these are cubes, by the way...just to show...theses were on a 5th flush.

Ovoid on a walnut. (I think, I'm on my phone so the pic is tiny.)

This is from Shroomylearner's ID request.  MidnightCity is a TI.

MidnightCity said:
Perhaps Psilocybe caerulipes for the first.

I had suggested ovoid because of the time of year but, after looking at the pics some more, think it may be a caurulipes.  Something about the gills says caerulipes more than ovoids.  Either way, it's definitely bruising.  Need to determine what species of tree it was found on to have a better idea.
