Chechnya was part of Russia since WWII.  It wasn't a separate country so it couldn't have been invaded.

I linked to a Crimea discussion above and how I travelled there to find that they were definitely NOT invaded but wanted to rejoin Russia after the US orchestrated coup in Ukraine (the link is to a leaked phone conversation where the US was discussing who we would put in charge after the coup).

And Russia never invaded Afghanistan either.  When the ruling party of Afghanistan tried to introduce Western reforms to Afghanistan, such as separation of Mosque and State, abolition of sharia law, equal rights for women, universal education, elimination of forced marriages, minimum wage, etc., religious nut jobs (The Mujahideen) didn't like the reforms and started a civil war.  The Afghan Government sought help from the Soviet Union, while the religious nut jobs (including Osama Bin Laden) got help from the United States.  There was no invasion.

mmhm and Finland... Poland... Czechoslovakia... Hungary... Abkhazia... Georgia... Azerbaijan... Latvia... Estonia.... it goes on and on... yes very helpful country! Only helping people rule themselves under iron curtain!

Pick ANY one of the above, send me a link talking about how Russia invaded them after WWII, and let's have a civil discussion about what really happened.  Your first three countries were pretty easily debunked.

I think further investigation would bring up several issues. But off the top of my head I'm going to say top security clearance for her and her husband.

What do you mean "top security clearance for her and her husband"?  I'm just trying to understand your thoughts.

You'll have to explain the "doublespeak", the "goal post moving".

I can tell you right now I don't have a "pro-russia no matter what thing".  I have a "facts over make believe thing" going on.  Give me some facts to prove me wrong, and I'll change my mind.

It's true that the communist Afghan government asked Soviet forces to help combat the growing Islamic insurgency. It's also true that this government came into power through a 1978 coup, and is associated with progressive reforms and brutal suppression of dissent - both factors which led to the creation of the Mujahideen. You also neglect to mention that Soviet forces assassinated the president of Afghanistan in 1979 - killing hundreds of the Afghan National Army in the process - and installed a new, more Soviet-friendly, president into government; and this is the government that used the term 'intervention' over 'invasion' to describe the actions of the Soviets.

You seem to be fairly knowledgeable about all things Russian, so I assume you already knew about Шторм-333 when you made your post, and the gaps in information is the result of an intentional exclusion. "The Afghan Government sought help from the Soviet Union," while technically true, is only a half-truth designed to support a 'pro-russia no matter what' narrative. It is deceptive propaganda.

Ok, so you say I was right, but you're upset that I left some details out.  I can play that same game with you too.

For example, Hafizullah Amin, who was taken out by Шторм-333, came to power himself by disposing of his predecessor Nur Muhammad Taraki and ordering his death.  Why didn't you mention that fact?  There are books about this topic and neither of us can cover it all in a few sentences.

We should have a civil back and forth discussion, rather than a "Ha!  I got you!" type of discussion.  I don't dispute your additional evidence, but as others have already noted, some people here seem out to get me, rather than having in a civil discussion.

I don't expect us to mention every single detail ever - but details the provide highly relevant context? Yes, I expect those to be provided, if it's a reasonable assumption that they were known by the poster.

The difference here is that the details you left out - (1) only framing the communist Afghan ruling party in light of their progressive reforms without mentioning the brutal repression that also resulted; and (2) not mentioning that when internal Afghan politics resulted in the removal and replacement of Taraki as president, Soviet military forces invaded Kabul and assinated Amin before replacing him with a new pro-Soviet president - provide highly relevant context.

Both of these statements are true:

"When the ruling party of Afghanistan tried to introduce Western reforms to Afghanistan, [...] The Mujahideen didn't like the reforms and started a civil war.  The Afghan Government sought help from the Soviet Union."

"After a bloodless coup, the new ruling party of Afghanistan tried to introduce Western reforms to Afghanistan using brutal means, [...] The Mujahideen didn't like the reforms and started a civil war.  The Afghan"Government sought help from the Soviet Union, but when Afghan-Soviet government relations began to deteriorate, a Russian military coup reinstalled a new pro-Soviet Afghan president."

But only with your depiction can you claim that "there was no invasion" - adding the missing context makes such a claim obviously false. Шторм-333 was a Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

On the other hand, the detail I left out - that Amin came to power himself by disposing of his predecessor Taraki and ordering his death - is not highly relevant context; meaning that with or without this context, my conclusion is unchanged. That's why I neglected to mention the fact. Whether Amin was in power because of a democratic vote or violent coup, it doesn't change my conclusion that Шторм-333 was a Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The Afghan government didn't ask for Soviet forces to attack their national army and president.

What was uncivil about my comment? Earlier you said "(1) Pick ANY one of the above, (2) send me a link talking about how Russia invaded them after WWII, and (3) let's have a civil discussion about what really happened."

I (1) chose Afghanistan; (2) gave evidence of a Russian invasion of Afghanistan, and explained why I considered your comment to be "only a half-truth designed to support a 'pro-russia no matter what' narrative,". It seems pretty poor form that, since you don't dispute my evidence, instead of clearly acknowledging that you were incorrect to claim that Russia has not invaded Afghanistan or any other country post-WW2, you decide to portray my response as a "Ha!  I got you!" personal attack. That's the only reason civil discussion didn't occur just now.

I don't think trump will win but I think there's a better chance of it happening than most liberals would admit. I mean any poll has a non-zero chance of him winning, so it's pretty cocky to not consider it a possibility
