Mycolorado's Tamp Fruit Project * 14

Substrate

The sub is a blend of the following components:
Roughly
50% oats (hydrated and sterilized)
20% coir
20% hpoo
5% straw (chopped)
5% paper
Dash of verm...about 2%

The coir was hydrated separately and added to the other ingredients, thoroughly mixed, brought up to field capacity and left overnight. The oats were pre-sterilized and mixed in before being loaded into the bag and PC'd for 2.5hrs.  Once cool, the sub was inoculated with 2 nasty old tamp quart jars that didn't produce many stones.  The sub appeared to be fully colonized by day seven but I let it go a full 2 weeks at which point it looked like this:

It was then loaded into a mono and cased with the jiffy sand blend Mycolorado's Tamp Sand Casing

Fruiting

These were started in a mono as the fruiting chamber (read grow tent) wasn't yet set up.  The recovery from breaking up was about 2 weeks.  After the initial week of recovery the mono was moved into the tent and the lid was removed. About a week later the first pins started to rise.  Up to this point I would give the casing a spray a couple times a day to make sure it never dried out.  As the pins developed in both size and number over the course of a week or so, misting frequency increased as well until they're being misted at least 4-6 times a day by full maturity.  It should be noted that my climate is very dry!  The tent conditions are right at 72F and fairly high humidity (feels like FL).  I'm using a large Vicks wick humidifier and it seems to be working pretty well so far.

In Conclusion

The fruit from this bulk sub blend are a lot more substantial than those I've fruited off straight cased grain with thicker and denser stipes and nice meaty caps.  For fruiting, temps between 70-80F, ample FAE and high humidity are key for getting nice looking, fully developed and mature fruit.

Printing

You didn't think I'd forget the prints, did you?!?  For the most part, a little curl up of the perimeter of the cap is when to get the best prints, that said, some caps that look like they should print nicely don't while others that aren't as fully developed do. None ofthe mutated caps dropped some spores at all after closer inspection.  With as much sub and spawn that went into this, it should print for quite some time.

hey box,

It's a 4x4 grow tent.  I use a wick humidifier inside the tent and run it 24/7.  I also have a bilge fan on a timer that removes the stale air and pumps it outside.  It's important to circulate and exchange the air to keep mold down. The one thing I don't like about the tent is it has fabric in it in places which acts as a good surface for shit to grow on requiring more cleaning than a regular martha or PVC style gh setup.  The key with mex is good FAE and humidity.  Poor FAE will result in spaghetti fruit and small, malformed or unopened caps.  A well dialed monotub can get you close but open air or in a gh with ample FAE is going to produce nice printable fruit.

Can't wait to see your process and results!

There are some usually but my tamps never make a ton of stones.  This was a prettier tamp grow.
