Haven't been hunting for 4-5yrs, and not since moving from NZ - can be worse times to get laid off from work than just as the season is starting!

Looking forward to seeing all the Psilocybe sp. that Victoria has to offer, off for a hunt

So I have one picture. Very, very poor quality. Guys, I promise I'm gonna get out there with a better camera soon ahaha.

Seeing those Alutacea pictures from ent, it does look quite a bit like that. But my memory of larger ones doesn't look like an alutacea. Memory could easily be tricking me though.
The flash makes the cap look much more caramel than it was. It was darker brown than any of the subs I found that day. Compared to a sub, it was also flimsier (for lack of better word)
These things are very common around a few of my usual patches. Hopefully I'll be able to get out soon.

Is anyone having fruitful expeditions in the northern suburbs of Melb?

My couple hours out today covering many mulch gardens under pine and gum and found only a couple of Galerina sp.  Looks too dry still...?

Had some luck this afternoon, yay! First finds of the season. Can't wait to go pick the rest in a few days once they're bigger. Need to buy a new dehydrator too, old one died :mushroom2:

I'd recommend a luvelle dehydrator. Though it's not cheap like the alternatives (it's around $80, compared to $40 cheap ones), my concern was the type of plastic it was made from. plastic numbers 2 and 5 are considered the safer types, but the others are quite questionable, especially when heated. So that's 'polypropelene' (5) and 'high density polyethylene' (2). Also, 'low density polyethylene' (4) is considered relatively safe as well.

I have either the LEFT400 or the LFFD250. It works well, but runs hotter than the average dehydrator, better suited for meats. So with a hotter running temp, it dehydrates quickly.

First find of the season for me! [Re: ent]
    #25206923 -

Had my first find of the season today. Melb suburbs. Found 3 patches, one of which had maybe 20 pins all under 1cm in height, will check again in a day or two to see how they are coming along. Gave them some nice woodchips to cover them up and keep the moisture in, hoping they grow up nice and strong. Was concerned that two may not be subs, but the spore prints checked out with a nice purple/dark brown color.

I'd still be cautious as some similar species like Leratiomyces ceres can have dark brown/purplish spore prints!

That's actually really good to know. There were quite a few Leratiomyces ceres growing in the same place as I had todays find, however the two that I was concerned about bruised blue, and had no trace of orange in the stems at all. I've had a number of experienced pickers identify these for me today, so I'm pretty confident thus far.

The circled two mushrooms are the ones I was concerned about initially.

Psilocybe Subaeruginosa. Or, at least that's what I am told both on here, and by a handful of other experienced shroomers.

Awesome find, dude! They are beautiful. Remember not to pick the ones with unbroken veils; they haven't yet had a chance to drop their spores!
