Hey peeps, its my third season, thanks for all the content. Went out yesterday to all my usual spots inner eastern suburbs alphington area, none of the indicator inactives where fruiting yet, so thought it might be too early. But checked my go to sub spot and it was a party.
Sorry for potato photos.

The haul got a bit beat up in my bag oops.
I even found a few old pins that where all dried up, just gotta find the right micro-climates, subs are persistent!

Interested to hear what everyones opinion is on trespassing to go picking. If a certain piece of land says "no go zone" is it actually trespassing? Do you think that entering protected areas or revegetation zones is morally wrong to pick mushrooms?

Picking in state parks or state reserves is legally wrong.  you are meant to apply for a permit to collect anything, and if you get caught you can and most likely will get fined.

State forests are ok.

legally you are meant to get permission from the land owner about walking on their land, and i have been reprimanded due to unclear boundaries on a few occasions.  plenty of reasons to not trespass, so pretty much don't do it without permission.

I’ve picked from peoples driveways / front yards up in the country, y’know when you spot a massive patch that’s begging to be picked. Just be respectful & discrete about it. Probably not a good idea to trespass on someone’s farm though..
As for a  reserve I guess it would theoretically be fine if you don’t litter or disturb the peace. Maybe leave those revegitation zones though..

Hi all, happy hunting!

Glad to find our spots have started sprouting although it was quite delayed compared to the timing of last year..

I have a question, can geoengineering affect the quality of the soil significantly / pollute the environment for the mushrooms? Say for example metal toxicity? Big concerns about this as people are speculating it can affect the quality of their own backyard organic produce if aluminium levels are too high.

Here’s some terrible photos of some wood lovers from the south eastern suburbs. Stay prosperous, they’re definitely out here

Hey there, I'm new to mushroom season as this is my first time and I've researched my ass off and gone out to spots I've thought might have actives in NE Melb suburbs (Big mulch beds and concentrations of pine trees) but I've had no luck.
Is it true that mushrooms tend to flush when there are frosts in the mornings? There's Plenty of rain and the temp is getting below 10 degrees most nights but still no fungal activity...
any help is appreciated

For Melbourne suburbs in my limited experience they seem to bloom a bit later in the season compared to bush conditions.

Interesting, so you would recommend hunting further out for a few more weeks?

Forgot to mention this is in SE suburbs of Melbourne on Sunday, Saturday yielded no results but Sunday was blooming!

Congratulations man, beautiful patch!

I'm new to the area, just moved to SE suburbs melbourne from adelaide... any tips you are willing to share on where to look? I've tried down the peninsula and a couple of local parks but have found nothing yet.

Gotta agree that the ground would be the best bet hah

But otherwise mate all I did was hop on Google Maps and scoped out some parks nearby that looked like that had some pine bark. Found a park close-by which ticked all the boxes and just so happened to come across some.

I've also had a bit of luck along the east link trails and paths, usually the trails have bark along the sides and I've spotted some pins around.

The ones I found above were just off a dip in the ground and I'm guessing it catches a lot of the runoff.
Good luck mate! I'm gonna head back today to see if there's any new developments and will post what I find!

Went for a wander today to one of my spots and found my first subs for the season albeit only pins.

The season is not yet in full swing in this part of suburban Melbourne, it has barely started actually and we need colder daytime temps and higher humidity before we get a decent flush me thinks.

Mature subs are still a bit scarce in my area, but quite a lot of pinning action around, so hoping for a nice drenching later in the week to get things moving.

Quick question out of curiosity, is L.Ceres a competitive species to P.Subs? Iny most areas I hunt, I see an abundance of them around, and I find subs never seem to grow side by side, usually a similar proximity, but never in my experience have I seen subs and L.Ceres sharing the same wood patch. Interested to hear people's thoughts/experiences.

A few spots produced some nice early fruits.
Left a lot of pins and smaller ones.
Still came away with roughly 25 good sub's, dehydrator is on
Heres some pictures from my pos phone

Question to experienced Vic pickers, have we ever had confirmed P.Tasmaniana in Victoria?

Hey everyone, after looking through here for a couple weeks I finally decided to go out and try my luck in the dandenong ranges. Unfortunately I did not have alot of time and ended up leaving empty handed. Yesterday however I decided it was worth a try to have a look in my local park and to my suprise I found just over 6g dry worth of subs. I was wondering are they more common in suburban areas or was it just luck that i found more in 20 minutes than 2 hours. Thanks in advance guys

Not an experienced Vic hunter, have only heard of p. tas in NSW but that's no reason you shouldn't be keeping your eye  out still.
